Good Job Governor Newsom

From CNBC:

Disney to lay off 28,000 employees as coronavirus slams its theme park business

Prolonged closures at Disney’s California-based theme parks and limited attendance at its open parks has forced the company to lay off 28,000 employees across its parks, experiences and consumer products division, the company said.

Around 67% of the 28,000 laid off workers were part-time employees, according to a statement by D’Amaro on Tuesday. The company declined to break down the layoffs by individual park locations.

While Disney’s theme parks in Florida, Paris, Shanghai, Japan and Hong Kong have been able to reopen with limited capacity, both California Adventure and Disneyland have remained shuttered in Anaheim, California.

“As you can imagine, a decision of this magnitude is not easy,” D’Amaro wrote in the memo to employees obtained by CNBC. “For the last several months, our management team has worked tirelessly to avoid having to separate anyone from the company. We’ve cut expenses, suspended capital projects, furloughed our cast members while still paying benefits, and modified our operations to run as efficiently as possible, however, we simply cannot responsibly stay fully staffed while operating at such limited capacity.”

D’Amaro and his team have been working to persuade California state legislators to provide guidelines for reopening parks. Last week, the company provided a media update to highlight the success it has seen at its Florida parks and internationally in Paris, Shanghai and Japan.

The virtual update also showcased the updated safety measures it has in place already. These policies include requiring masks, having sanitation stations widely available, online mobile ordering for meals and cashless pay.

Disney’s coronavirus woes have been “exacerbated in California by the State’s unwillingness to lift restrictions that would allow Disneyland to reopen,” D’Amaro said.

That is a huge amount of revenue loss for the company and in taxes for the state.

Then there is the trickle-down effect of all the businesses in the area that will suffer because of the Disney closure.  Local restaurants and hotels that cater to the tourists that come in from out of town.

Disney has shown willingness to be compliant with various restrictions but that is not enough for a pigheaded refusal of the California government to lift its boot off the necks of businesses in California.

When all is said and done, this will be hugely devastating to the local economy.

But at least Governor Newsom tackled the important job of banning gasoline-powered cars by 2035.

MSNBC really gunning for racial harmony

From MSNBC talking head Toure:

This Tweet really tries to unite us and bring about racial harmony.

No it doesn’t.

If someone on Fox said the same thing about the George Floyd or Breonna Taylor body cam footage, the mob would burn down the FNC building.

The anti-racists are the biggest racists and they want you hurt or dead.

Concrete jungle vs. Back woods

From the NY Post:

City dwellers are finding out camping is gross

When Christina Ramos announced she was going camping for the first time this summer, her friends got worried.

“They thought I wasn’t going to make it,” said the 29-year-old New Jersey native, who was planning an outdoors-oriented trip to Michigan for her friend Paola’s 29th birthday.

Michigan, not the Amazon rainforest.  Michigan.

As the pandemic presses on, city dwellers are turning to camping as a safe, socially distant alternative to typical travel, with online booking tools Campspot, Tentrr and Hipcamp all reporting upticks in usage. But newbies are quickly discovering there’s a lot more to sleeping outside than s’mores and sing-alongs.

“They’re amazed by the amount of bugs that they see and the variety, and how big they can get,” said Rafael Lopez, who runs the NYC Hiking and Backpacking Group on Facebook.

His group’s membership has been increasing steadily, at about 15 people a day. But the reports from newcomers aren’t always positive: “The lack of bathrooms is what scares people,” said Lopez. “And when you do have a bathroom, it’s the surprise of how dirty they are.”

Oh fuck off.  Have any of these people used a bathroom in a New York subway terminal?

Have any of them ever ridden a subway.  This year was the first time in 115 years that NYC shut down the subway system to clean it.

Commuting to work twice a day in this is fine:

But a KOA bathroom is too dirty?

One decision she immediately regretted was failing to buy a sleeping pad: “It felt like I woke up and was hit by a bus,” she said.

Since then, she’s done overnights in the Catskills, Virginia and Connecticut. She has even chronicled some of her adventures for the Washington Post. But that doesn’t mean that she’s beyond the occasional mistake. There was the time she brought a portable charger that wasn’t actually charged, and the night she neglected to zip up her tent the whole way. When she woke up, she was soaked with rain.

“My sleeping bag was like a tea bag, dipped in a cup of tea,” Compton said.

Tell me more New Yorker about how well your secession and civil war over ACB replacing RBG is going to go.  You’ll all die of hypothermia if you can’t billet in an AirBNB between battles.

These are people who step over filthy vagrants and go to parks where the playgrounds are by weight more homeless peoples’ shit and hypodermic needles than sand.  But the American woods are gross.

Remind me how New Yorkers are so tough, I keep forgetting.

Borepatch is thinking about a Blogshot

Initial thought is to happen at the  Manatee Gun and Archery Club in Myakka City, FL.  Time to be determined if enough folks are interested.  My guess is it will happen in a Saturday or Sunday.

I checked with Google Maps and it is a three and a half hour trip from Miami Dade so it is doable in a decent vehicle, just not my truck.  I don’t trust it farther than 10 miles away from the house.

I am going to talk to the missus and see if she is interested in going. For some reason, I don’t enjoy road trips without her at my side.  I might end up renting some fancy SUV and showing up in style.

You guys start thinking about it and remember, Florida has lifted effing COVID restrictions.

Liberals have no sense of contradiction

And that is not the only contradiction. You cannot be broke and be a billionaire at the same time, yet he writes it like it is not only a possibility, but a fact.

I knw we have been joking about Trump Derangement Syndrome, but I am staring to truly believe that hate does affect the brain as bad or worse than real head trauma.

What the hell is going to happen the night November 3rd? These people will not accept the re-election and they will lose their collective minds worse then when Hillary lost. Back then they had a heavy emotional investment, but this time around,, it is a fully mental investment in the win of Joe Biden. It will not matter if both popular and Electoral votes go Republican, they will simply will/can not be able to process the outcome.

Don’t threaten me with a good time

Says the CNN anchor to Trump supporters who have been threatened by a mob, looted, beaten, shot, run over, murdered, doxxed, and otherwise made clear that they are not welcomed in polite society, and are hoping that the Supreme Court will restore their rights.

I’m just saying, this isn’t the threat that he thinks it is.
