Premier of Quebec, Francois Legault, has introduced a COVID-19 curfew to help reduce the province’s rising case numbers. It went into effect this past Saturday Jan 8th. Measures include an provincewide curfew from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. with exemptions for essential workers.

Martial law in Canada: Raw footage from Quebec’s new COVID curfew – Rebel News

I am thinking that the idea of a Federal Curfew Order is being entertained. What a better way to get rid of “unsavory” political enemies than arresting and bringing to DC those governors who refuse to comply with PedoJoe’s orders.

If you thought for even a second something along the lines of “But wait! The Constitution says….”

  1. And it would be challenged in court, as was Michigan’s Whitmer.

At which point the courts would either dismiss the challenge, or the higher-ups would simply ignore the court.

Just a little cynical this morning, sorry.

    1. I live in upstate NY and understand your cynicism, but there is hope. Cuomo has been losing court cases here. The most recent was the gym in the Buffalo suburb that made the news when they chased out the health inspector and sheriff deputies. They fought to reopen in court and won, the judge said they can open at 100% capacity. Also, the bar/restaurant on Staten Island that refused to close recently had over 25 criminal charges that had been brought against the owner and supporters dismissed outright.

With the Democrats gearing up to go full totalitarian, it’s easy to get discouraged, but there are still judges out there who will do the right thing.

    2. I’ve lost all confidence in the courts and their will to protect the rule of law, having lived through the last several months.

  2. So far the lock down is just quebec. Ontario is discussing a similar lockdown.

The VP of the company where i work is a big supporter of the federal liberals and has ties to them. He claimed in early december that the feds were planning an 8 week lock down starting december 18th. The 8 weeks would be so the feds could give everyone their mandatory vacination and then life would go back to normal. He told me to stock up on some extra food for the 8 weeks.

He has no idea of my political beliefs but it was very nice of him to warn me.

Now obviously it didn’t happen; no idea if thats because of shortage of vacine stocks or if he was just talking out his ass. Given his contacts i’m inclined to believe its still coming.

  3. Once again we’re reminded how easily things can happen when you don’t have a Constitution.
While it’s also possible in the USA, the barriers against it are a bit higher.

  4. Unfortunately, taking points to an extreme level can both illustrate a point and frustrate problem solving.

If every single human on the planet stayed inside for 3 weeks, the virus would die out as it would have no new hosts. This has some downsides, but it would work (theoretically).

So I almost see where the basic concept of shut downs (the term I prefer to the prison term “lockdown”) almost makes sense. Of course, the implementation of such restrictions falls apart almost as soon as they start–what is “essential” and such.

    1. Theoretically. It would kill off the virus.

Everyone staying inside for three weeks and never leaving their homes would also mean the complete shutdown of the basic utility systems like electricity, gas, water, and sewage as the workers would not be able to control and maintain the utility systems.

It would also kill off about 50% of the developed world, from cold, heat, and lack of basic necessities.

      So it will not. Happen.

      1. Even theoretically I don’t think it works that way. If it did, China would have had the virus under control in a few weeks, because roughly speaking that’s what they did. Enforced with welding torches.
Quite apart from the questionable theory, there’s the minor issue of civil liberties. Even in regions like Western Europe where these things aren’t taken very seriously, there are limits to how far people can be pushed. Never mind here in the USA, where people (at least those old enough) were educated about the Constitution and its supposed meaning.

Only one rule: Don't be a dick.
