Reminds me of an incident at a Scottish festival I attended with my family, years ago. I was talking with a couple in traditional dress, and, having never seen one before,
I asked him about the long sword in a sheath on his back. He replied, in character (and in a Scottish accent), “That’s a claymore, the national weapon of Scotland.”
Being my typical, wise-ass self, I replied, “I thought the bagpipe was the national weapon of Scotland.”
Neither he nor his wife/girlfriend could stay in character–both broke up laughing.
