No, not Open Carry or Campus carry, but important paperwork stuff.

House Bill 553 is huge with 114 pages and among many things we have the following (starts in page 102):

  • If after 90 days the background check is incomplete for whatever reason, the permit shall be issued nonetheless. If something pops later, the permit will automatically be suspended.
  • You will no longer need a notarized statement in the event of a lost or destroyed license. A statement under oath will suffice.
  • Will add extra fees to make the application for a CWP more palatable for Tax Collectors. It will add $6 extra for fingerprinting and another $6 for the photograph.
  • Tax Collectors will be able to print new CWP for those who lost them and those who are renewing them on site. Of course, the paperwork has to be filled and the fees paid, but the convenience of being able to go to a Tax Collector Office in every county of the sate rather than use the mail or go to one of only eight regional offices of the Division of Licensing.

Found favorable by the Commerce committee Yeas 21 – Nay 3.

  1. At least here in Miami you can go to the regional office and the service besides friendly is pretty quick.

  2. 90 days? Yikes. In NH the time limit is 14 days (calendar, not working). Of course at this point there’s also Constitutional Carry, but the permit system still exists for people who want the paperwork, perhaps for reciprocity.
