  1. There are some really ugly, vile people out there. And the rise of social media – especially with anonymous accounts – has removed pretty much all real-world consequence for spouting their foulness in a public forum.

(Yes, I realize I am posting under a pseudonym, too. As a rule, I try to not post anything I wouldn’t be willing to someone’s face, however.)

  2. There are a few things that I say on line that I wouldn’t say to a persons face. Most of that is the same way I might say to my friend “Oh that dress is ugly by my wife loves it.” I’m not willing to say that to my wife.

But there has been a huge increase in the vile statements that people make, in general, against people they dislike or disagree with.

Much of it has to do with othering. We now have conversations with people that are thousands of miles away from us as if they are in the next room. I’m always surprised when I learn that one of you lives in the same state as I do.

The real problem, in my opinion, is the positive feedback loop for those vile comments that people get.

In the past, saying something like that in person would likely get you a stern look or a talking to, unlikely any physical violence. And the people around would shhh them. It just isn’t polite.

Today, a post of that sort gets positive feedback. Other posters are quick to jump on and post equivalents or egg the poster on. Opponents are quickly identified and attacked, verbally. All of this while the original poster is feeling good. They upset the “bad” people, the others and they pleased the “good” people, their own tribe.

  3. I always find it amusing when Leftists publicly hope that karma strikes.

It shows that, like everything else, the Left doesn’t understand what karma is or how it works, but still wants to leverage it for their own sick purposes.

Sorry, folks. If you believe in it (I don’t), karma exists outside human influence. One cannot “leverage” karma, and any attempt to do so will invite its own karmic response.

It’s like praying to God, asking Him to visit His wrath upon your opponents. God will listen, chuckle … and then decide you need a lesson in how His Creation works.

One’s actions factor into karma, just as they factor into God’s favor, but the bigger issue is the “heart” with which one is taking action. A righteous act performed with evil or selfish intent, is not a righteous act.

IOW, while the ideal is to do the right thing for the right reasons, it’s karmically better to do the wrong thing for the right reasons, than to do the right thing for the wrong reasons.

The Left sometimes does the right thing and sometimes does the wrong thing. But regardless of what they say, they never act selflessly, or for the good of society, or to help people who need it. Almost always, they’re acting selfishly, or to weaken societal norms, or to punish their opponents.

Nearly everything the modern Left does — even when they choose the right thing — they do for the wrong reasons.

Ergo, the Left needs to be VERY careful about asking for karma to strike; they may not like the results. 😉

Only one rule: Don't be a dick.
