CJ Grisham, President of Open Carry Texas, the group responsible for the demonstration at the Target last January, wrote BuzzFeed saying, “I wouldn’t doubt if a gun control extremist planted the gun there to further his agenda of blaming gun owners for deaths of children. Whoever did it is a despicable excuse for a human being and should be charged with attempted murder and fried in in a chair.”

  1. Amen. When I pointed out in another conversation on this situation that the surveillance system caught a man acting strangely and nervously roaming the toy aisles and they also found an empty product wrapper near the gun that indicates a possible shoplifting situation, I was told that gun owners in Texas simply “know better” than to wait on pesky things like investigations and evidence before blaming the anti-gun groups for it.

  2. He was even worse in Afghanistan. Saw zero combat and was sent home early with mental issues. As for Iraq, Grisham is a case of Stolen Valor.

Here Grisham says that PTSD can be used as an excuse for any behavior:
    ====
Grisham the journalist was recently terminated from the YouServed podcast program that he co-hosted. Comments that he made were astounding, such as encouraging the commission of potential criminal activity.

Grisham broadcasted about something that he has been accused of in the past: faking PTSD, and using it as an excuse. During the PTSD podcast, the subject was conveniently forgetting things you do not wish to be confronted with.

    From transcript:

Grisham: That’s right. For the rest of our lives, as combat veterans, we can pretty much get away with anything. You just blame it on PTSD, [TBI] or your combat experience. All the explosions and memory losses, it’s perfect. [laughs]

Grisham: I’ve been avoiding the hospital; I have some documented PTSD but not memory issues, yet.

There are big bucks involved in getting PTSD. Money for life. In another podcast, Grisham encourages someone to carry a weapon in a way that can be a felony. A listener says he was denied a permit to carry a concealed weapon because he was receiving psychological treatments. Grisham’s advice:

Grisham: Here’s the thing. I’ve got some advice for Tim. This is from C.J., here. You don’t need a stupid piece of paper from your government to tell you that you can hold a gun. Let me just bring that out right now. It’s sad that he can’t get this thing, but here’s my philosophy here.

I’m not giving out any legal advice and I’m not encouraging anyone to break the law. If you’re a law abiding citizen and you need a weapon for personal protection which I think these days all of us do, especially with all these economic problems – people are trying to make up their losses somewhere – then you need to carry a gun.

If they’re not going to issue it to you “legally” then by golly just put the dang gun on anyway. Who’s going to know unless you do something wrong? Now, if you’re defending yourself, the Second Amendment is there. It says that the right to bear arms shall not be infringed.

By setting qualifications on who can and can not hold a gun, they are infringing on a right to keep and bear arms. Therefore, he’s perfectly legal to do it. So Tim I tell you to go out there. Don’t even worry about your permit. Although you probably can’t buy a gun legally.

    1. I actually have to agree with Mr. Grisham on that one–nobody needs a stupid piece of paper in order to exercise their rights. He may not have said it eloquently, but there it is. How we got ourselves into this one-down situation was by compromising too much.

  3. oh I think Grisham is probably wrong in this case. Would I put it passed the gun control crowd to be that low down, stupid and evil? Sure. How can you ask that with all the flat out LIES they’ve been caught telling over the years?

  4. So your argument is that the gun was left by accident? I think you are the fools. Many people I know who heard this story immediately thought it was a plant. If not by anti-gunners, then by a sick individual that wanted some little kid to shoot himself or someone else by accident. As for the punishment, that person does indeed deserve some bad things to happen to him.

    1. Could it be a plant? Probably.

However, given the way OCT have been waving their guns around, it’s only a matter of time until one of them misplaces one and forgets about it.

Gun ownership is a wonderful right as a citizen of the United States, but it is also a great responsibility, and anybody who ignores that responsibility is going to pay a very steep price.

      1. In Afghanistan and Iraq, troops lost weapons literally every day. Every single day. As example, at Kandahar Airfield in Afghanistan — just that one place — troops lost weapons nearly daily just around the boardwalk area. They would forget their weapons inside port-o-johns, at the restaurants, and in the showerrooms by their tents or trailers. They forgot weapons in the gyms, and at the laundry facilities. The vast majority were returned without dramas. Anyone who thinks people do not lose weapons lacks experience.

I have no idea about this case, however. Could be many things. But to automatically label it without waiting for information to develop, is perilous.

  5. What Mr. Grisham should have done is what the antis always do to us–cast an accusation or cite a ‘fact’ that goes around the world before anyone can begin to refute it. So sure, why blame them first? They would have come at the gun community with something like “See? Gun owners can’t be trusted to keep their guns safe?” In other words, I’m sure the antis were getting ready to blame this on some hapless CHL guy.

You know what group loses guns and leaves them around like that constantly? Cops.

  6. Dear OCT,

    You’re not helping.

    Sincerely,
    Gun Owners

Seriously, these guys are like the Westboro Baptists of the gun rights community. They are doing so much damage and can’t even comprehend the harm they’re doing.

  7. It is not about guns or the 2nd Amendment. It is about the attention. Read about Grisham’s history. Guns are just his latest mania. After he finishes his damage here, he will move to something else like abortion or immigration.

  8. Occam’s Razor argues that either some knucklehead carried it in, then left it behind out of stupidity, or a criminal abandoned it there after using it in a crime. But a Moms Demand Action ploy to further their cause is not beyond the realm of possibility. It’s just unlikely.
