The larger issue at stake is how morally abhorrent it is to allow a bunch of bureaucrats to wield their power over individuals and give them ultimate say over individuals’ life and death!

The Europeans have always been very good at the execution of innocents by committee or regulation, and they excel at mass production of death. Cases like this is why I do not take any shit from smarmy EU assholes who give me crap about the death penalty in the US.
At least our Death Row inmates have done some egregious crime that society has deemed intolerable and decided that the culpable party no longer deserves to live. And still takes over a decade of well fed, well cared life before we put the sucker on a stretcher and shove a needle up his arm.
