    Buy this by the case. Open a shop in NYC. Cook this in a microwave and sell it along side some Great Value white dinner rolls and potato chips.

    Call it “authentic NYC Style BBQ.”

    Charge $24 a plate for it.

    New Yorkers will eat it and say it’s great because they won’t know the difference and believe anything that is “authentic NYC style” is automatically the best.

    1. Yeah … You have a problem right there at Step 2: open a shop in NYC.

      First, you’d have be in NYC at least part of the time.

      Second, you’d have to go through all the permitting, licensing, and don’t forget the payola to get it opened in a reasonable amount of time. Oh, and dealing with several different unions – that’s always so much fun.

      And third, you’d have to be in NYC at least part of the time.

  2. Like my idea to buy WM bottled water, and print out labels proclaiming it’s status as GMO free, Earth Friendly, Vegan, Natural hydration.

    Sell it at artsy-fartsy weekend fairs for $2/bottle.

  3. I use stuff like that when I’m doing remote camping. Tuna in the bag too, as well as the usual dehydrated crap. No refrigeration required.

    It has it’s place in the pantheon of foods. Fresh smoked BBQ it ain’t, but for some reason out on the trail everything seems to taste better…

  4. Agree with Earl H.

    There are times when foodie/gourmet is NOT appropriate. Although. I tend to think this product does not get manufactured for the small percentage of us that backpack/remote camp. There is likely a market for this, and these people probably love it.

    I had a co-worker that used to think Taco Bell was far and away the best mexican food out there. I prefer to look at it as solids, nothing more.

  5. Coincidentally, I actually bought one of these pouches today.

    Haven’t tried it, but the worst that could happen is that I’m out a buck-and-change. Not too much a risk for potentially finding a somewhat-palatable, shelf-stable package of 130 calories and 11 grams of protein.

    Imagine the trade value of these pouches in a TEOTWAWKI scenario…. 😉

  6. I take it you haven’t seen the pre-cooked chorizo in bacon strip shape ready to eat yet?

    Consistency is somewhere between soft leather and overcooked chicken with taste in there somewhere. Worst of all it doesn’t give ya enough grease to make a decent hashbrown or scrambled egg

  7. I used to keep a couple of the Hormel Shelf Stable dinners in my desk drawer at work. They came in handy when something hit the fan at work, and I was there at 2AM, with the nearest town 15 miles away, and there was nothing open in it anyway. Even the gas station convenience stores were shut, and you used a credit card to fill up off-hours.

    This food has its place, just like the four days of freeze dried food stored on top of my cupboard, above the two dozen cans of Capbells Soups and dozen cans of Chef Boyardee Ravioli. (All bought on Sale and will be ate sometime when I am too lazy to make a real meal.)

Only one rule: Don't be a dick.
