Twisted knickers in the UK about a judge telling it like he should to a couple of mending burglars. How dare anybody defend themselves?

However, Gill Marshall-Andrews, the chair of the Gun Control Network, said she feared such remarks could lead more people to turn shotguns on intruders. “This kind of comment is likely to escalate gun use and encourage people to use their guns for self defence which wasn’t the purpose for which licences are granted,” she said.

She added that she did not believe that opening fire on a burglar was a proportionate form of self defence.

Apparently it was not her genitalia the one being threatened.

In my opinion, the bad boys got off easy: the shotgun was loaded with birdshot.

  1. Just how exactly is more people turning shotguns on intruders a problem? Ditzy broad, if you’ll excuse my English.

  2. “Intrude” into MY house and you’ll get a load of 12 ga. #71/2 lead shot and the next round is a 1 once lead slug.
What? You don’t wana get shot? DON’T INTRUDE !

  3. Arrest her and toss her in prison into the general population. Shortly thereafter I expect her to have a miraculous change of heart. Why yes as a matter of fact I AM being a bit of a bastard.

  4. @Carlos Murphy: Mine is loaded up with some double-ought, reduced recoil, 8 pellet (seems to pattern better than 9 pellet) buckshot that will get the job done. So, I hope that no one is stupid enough to intrude in my home, either.

  5. Yeah….on one hand, I’d love to hear what she had to say after someone broke into her house and assaulted her before robbing her blind in the time that it took for the police to respond (assuming she was even able to get a call out). On the other hand, I hate to see anyone victimized. Man, I’m torn on this one.

  6. Gun control network only has about 3 (politically very well connected) members.

It is an “astroturf” organization giving the illusion of popular “pressure from below” for gun control, while the politicians exert their “pressure from above”. Pretty classical cadre activity, straight out of the pages of Antonio Gramsci or Jan Kozak.

Technically she is correct, “self defence” has not been accepted as “good reason” for granting a gun license in Britain, since 1947.
