I know Temple Emanuel in Miami Beach.
I’ve worshiped there.
I’ve catered food there.
It is one of the most beautiful synagogues in the country.
The Jew-hating Palestinian activists are going into synagogues to harass Jews.
Soon, they will go in to harm Jews.
I understand the point the Rabbi is trying to make, that these people are engaged in mid-level violence and he doesn’t want his congregants to be caught on camera hitting Palestinian protesters.
But you know my opinion on mid-level violence, and how the response should be extreme violence. These people should leave that synagogue without teeth. Then they won’t come back.
While not of the Jewish faith, I don’t to church without proper PPE and haven’t since I started regularly attending again about a decade ago. One uniformed deputy isn’t going to be able to cover a 9.5 acre campus and a building with 10+ entrances. Yes, there’s the “church security team” but I don’t know them and I’m not really going to trust them to save my bacon if someone wants to make themselves famous.
Many years ago now, a “ modern Orthodox “ friend told me half the men at his synagogue were carrying, including him. I hope the rest, and at least a few of the women, have followed the example. I suspect the Reform ( I.e. surrender) Jews are still helpless. And yes, I’m a Jew, though not observant.
My recommendation is to knock their teeth out with .45 slugs.

Agreed, but in this context “I’m not touching you” is part of that “mid-level violence” J.Kb was talking about. “Protesters” can block your path/travel, prevent you from getting where you need to go or even surround you and prevent your egress, wave hands in front of your face, dump glitter on you, throw water on you, pour piss/saliva/vomit on you, pepper spray you, and they expect to get away with it because they think it won’t be “assault” if “I’m not touching you!” (But if you respond and make any kind of physical contact, they WILL try to charge YOU with assault.)

At the very least, it’s harassment and highly threatening — and sometimes IS actual assault (and surrounding and preventing escape could meet the definition of kidnapping or unlawful abduction) — but far too many cops and campus security officers let them get away with it because they’re “not touching you”.

So turn it back on them. By their logic, if throwing a literal bucket of sh!t on you can’t be “assault” because “I’m not touching you,” then a .45 slug at 800 fps can’t be “assault” for the same reason.

Maybe I am missing something here, but every time some muslim commits an act of terror, every politician out there fights to be the first to the microphone to say “Do not discriminate against the whole religion because of the actions of one (or a few) disturbed individuals.”

A radicalized muslim will commit a suicide attack against innocents. A regular every day muslim will know about the upcoming attack, say nothing to anyone in authority, and video the attack, or share the video of the attack..

Member of the team that slaughters babies approaches me screaming and waving its hands wildly — well, I assume it is intending to do the same to me. Not so sure what me reaction would actually be, but I’d be leaning to the self defense mode.
A few of the young men from Kiryas Joel should attend worship services there. All ex-IDF Special Forces combat vets. When some evildoers attempted to attack Orthodox believers; they stood watch in the community. Even the liberal wing of the NYSP left them alone, despite those fine young men openly carrying non-NY SAFE act compliant AR’s with 30 rnd magazines. And at least 3 besides the one in the gun. Don’t even think of f*$king with them.
1. I don’t carry a gun in synagogue because I don’t go to synagogue; I’m not Jewish. 😉

2. I DO carry a gun pretty much everywhere I do go, for a lot of reasons, not the least of which is that I support Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish Nation, which to the pro-Palestine crowd makes me no better than if I were a practicing Jew.

3. I also understand what the Rabbi is trying to say, but it’s short-sighted. The pro-Palestine “protesters” are pushing for a reaction: They want their targets to get violent. Yesterday they were standing outside synagogue to harass Jews, and didn’t get the reaction they wanted. Today they’re going INTO synagogue to harass Jews, and they’re still not getting the reaction they wanted. Tomorrow they’ll be physically assaulting Jews to try and get the reaction they want.

There’s a pattern of escalation, and the longer they go without the reaction they want, the more they’ll escalate their actions to get it.

Someone’s going to get hurt, and if it’s not the pro-Palestine “protesters”, it’ll be someone considerably less deserving. The only solution is to give them the reaction they want, in sufficient quantity that they lose the taste for it.
