Atlanta Teen Allegedly Shot and Killed by Stepfather After Refusing to Shelter in Place

A 16-year-old Atlanta boy was allegedly shot and killed by his stepfather following a domestic dispute over the teenager’s refusal to comply with directives to shelter in place amid the coronavirus pandemic, the Atlanta Police Department said in a statement provided to PEOPLE.

De’onte Roberts was shot in the chest late Wednesday evening during a fight with 42-year-old Bernie Hargrove, authorities said. He was taken to the hospital but later died of his injuries.

His mother told police that there had been an argument earlier in the day when Roberts would not follow his parent’s requests to remain home and comply with Georgia’s shelter-in-place directives.

It depends.

If the powers that be want to boost the Coronavirus death statistics to grab more power, it will be.

  1. This trope is driving me nuts. People read that a person had a heart attack or a stroke, and that the death was rated as a COVID death, then they assume that the numbers are being boosted. The real fact here is that COVID causes coagulopathies, which is why when a COVID patient dies of a stroke or heart attack, it is classed as a COVID related death.

Also, the teen wasn’t shot for breaking quarantine. This story leaves out key details. He left the house, and then returned hours later to find the door locked. He then kicked in the door, and immediately attacked his step father. If you look at the new story, the step father has bruising on his face. A good lawyer can spin this into a man defending himself, his wife, and his other step child against a domestic attack. The problem is that this doesn’t make good headlines, so they spin it.

Both are great examples of fake news. The press deliberately misleads people.

    1. Counting C19 deaths is like counting votes in a communist country – it all depends on who is doing the counting.

  2. This case is a real conundrum for the lamestream media and the blood dancers. If it’s spun as Covid-19 it’s not “a child victim of gun violence ®” and since stepdad is black there’s no racism angle. I suspect memory hole is imminent.

  3. TDW asked me an interesting question, that I had not considered: is there presently EXCESS mortality, and, if it appears to be so, what is the magnitude?

I’ve read some reports asserting DECREASED death rates lately.

If true, has the mix of etiologies changed? If yes, in what manner?

With crappy data, we will produce crappy plans.

With crappy plans, we will get crappy results.

    1. Decreased overall mortality is certainly plausible. With lots of people at home, you get fewer car accidents, fewer muggings perhaps. And with lots of attention to sanitation, you get fewer infections from other causes.
Yes, crappy plans will produce crappy results. Whether that outcome is intentional or not remains to be seen.

Only one rule: Don't be a dick.
