At least two formal events have popped up on Facebook that are encouraging Colorado gun owners to engage in civil disobedience and break the recent law that prohibits the sale or transfer of gun magazines capable of holding more than 15 rounds.

The events encourage participants from Colorado and other surrounding states to buy, sell and swap magazines that can hold more than 15 rounds in disobedience of the law.

The ammo shortage has affected everybody but we that reload have been struggling like madmen looking for sanity in a Grateful Dead concert to find reloading supplies. I have been a customer of Powder Valley for several years now and their record is impressive: no matter how bad the situation, they have managed to keep me (and I am guessing most of its customers) rightly supplied.

I placed an order for 9mm bullets a couple of weeks ago actually amazed that they had bullets in stock. The site had a warning indicating that orders placed that day may have shipment date of July 2nd. I had no problem with that, hell I was happy to been able to score the darn things. But the people at Powder Valley beat that and I just got both via email the invoice and the FedEx notification that my shipment is on the way. And even the price was not bad at all as the difference from last time I bought a similar product and the price that I am paying now is just about $10-$12 more. So kudos and many thanks to the people of Powder Valley for being such a remarkable company and busting their butts to keep us happy and shooting.

And of course, if you have not tried Powder Valley, you should….now! What are you still doing here? 🙂

The numbers related to gun violence in the land of the free are, of course, deeply chilling. More than 8,500 Americans were murdered by guns (or rather, by killers wielding guns) in 2011, according to the most recent FBI data. Of those, 565 were under the age of 18; 119 were kids 12 or younger. Wherever one comes down on the gun debate, most sane people can agree that those statistics are a national disgrace and … well, insane.

And from the original 1956 article:
In 1954 more than 550 U.S. children under 15 were killed in accidents involving the careless handling of firearms, five of them in lake County, Indiana. [In 2010, 606 people were killed by “accidental discharge of firearms,” according to the CDC. — Ed.] This situation shocked Indiana Conservation Officer Rod Rankin, who decided to offer a course in gun safety to any interested child in the county. In the past year 2,500 children from 6 years on, with the approval of their parents, have taken him up on it.

Sorry for my friends that see this elsewhere, sharing on the usual gun forums:
So, I have my asbestos suit on…. flame away….
I went down to Newtown to face the Bloomberg folks today Went with a buddy of mine, Joshua. He’s a younger guy, Marine, getting active in the 2A movement. I decided not to wear a CCDL shirt, I don’t think that was the time (especially if the anti’s decided to engage us in a loud ruckus and all – I didn’t want the organization getting the negative attention). So, I decided on wearing my “guns save lives” shirt. Pretty obvious, given their whole campaign was about ending gun crime. Which reminds me, you wanna see people in the anti-gun camp freak out: When they ask an open carrier why they are there, just say “I believe in stopping gun crime”….. the look on the face is EPIC!!!
But I digress…..
So, we were blatantly open carrying in our retention holsters. Turns out, the Bloomberg folks called 911 on us…. no biggie, we were in the right.
Officers showed up, said “Hi”. They did not hassle us at all about being there. No “sidewalk, grass” nonsense like I’ve seen at other events where I’ve OC’d. Mind you, we were the only pro gun folks there.
Officer says “do you have a permit?”…. obvious “yes”. “Can I see it?”. Now, I could have been a prick here and said, “why?”. However, as you can see by the few pictures, satellite trucks from CNN and national broadcasters were there as well. I didn’t want to draw negative attention (especially when we were doing so well). So, I said sure. I have my permit, Joshua did the same (mind you, funny hearing my name coming out of a cruiser over fifty feet away!).
Officer then called on her cell phone after running our permits (clean). She acknowledged our courtesy when she handed our permits back. She DID NOT ask for our firearms, run serial numbers or ANYTHING. Simply said, thank you and we had a short chat. She commented on the fact that we were indeed courteous and respectful. Admitted that we were free to walk wherever we want. She asked if others were coming and I said I wasn’t sure. She then continued with pleasant conversation by saying “if they give you a hard time, feel free to call us and we’ll fix the situation”….. Then a simple “thank you and have a nice day”.
Then, it gets even better….. the guy from Bloomberg’s group goes over to them and….. NOTHING. They obviously didn’t think it was legal, found out otherwise. Had our pictures taken A LOT of times by the anti’s that were VERY poor at trying to take pictures thinking we wouldn’t notice!
All in all, spent almost two hours out there, quietly on the side and EVERYONE knew we were there. Pointing, looking. NOTHING.
CNN tried to “direct” an pre-interview with me. Tried to flow the conversation with statistics. Look on her face when I gave her data right back that is provable, and she realized she couldn’t make me look like an idiot.
Best part: We stood in front of the NBC-30 folks for nearly two hours and they didn’t even notice….. when we were FACING them.
Bottom line:
We made our presence known.
Open carried.
Were courteous with everyone we met.
They found it so hard to comprehend because we didn’t argue, antagonize or try to belittle their little moment of exploitation.
Damn right it was a good day.
Now flame away, I showed an officer my permit…

According to the report, the arresting officer alleges that when Jared stopped talking he hindered the officers ability to do his job and that is where the obstruction arrest came from. Ummm, I’m no legal expert or anything, but I do know how to read, and I’m pretty sure one of those amendments in the bill of rights specifically recognizes that American citizens have the right to remain silent when speaking with law

Is it me or there is a bunch of bruised egos on the side of “The Law”? Because this is getting stupid big in an accelerated way. Maybe that town needs a nice lawsuit to remind them about abuses of power and the Constitution.
