Dear Mayor Bloomberg: Why Out Of State Guns?

The National Gun Victims Action Council is a small and pretty much useless group of gun control activists with some 1,000 Facebook likes and about a third are Gunnies picking on them. However give them props for being about the only group that does not delete posts and ban user that are not into their cause.
They posted this just a bit back:
NY Trace Bloomy01This map comes from the Mike Bloomberg Facebook page via Mike Bloomberg’s website. If you click on the link, you will see that this was posted today and they are using 2011 data. Two things: The data for NY State 2012 is available via ATF Tracing and there is a similar map in the ATF report that shows something missing in the Bloomberg’s map.

NY Trace Bloomy02Yup… the numbers for guns traced to NY State never made it. Of course that is why Mayor Bloomberg was careful to parse the info to make it only about guns from out of state as it takes the top 4 “exporters” to come close to the number of guns traced “in-state” and that would be admitting that their gun control laws were and are an abject failure and just a smoke screen.

The other stat from the ATF’s report is the Time To Crime:
1/1/2012-12/31/2012 New York Average Time-to-Crime: 13.90 Years
1/1/2012-12/31/2012 National Average Time-to-Crime: 11.12 Years

As per the ATF website: “Time-to-crime is the period of time (measured in days) between a firearm’s retail sale and law enforcement’s recovery of the firearm in connection with a crime. A short time-to-crime rate usually means the firearm will be easier to trace, and when several short time-to-crime traces involve the same individual/Federal firearm licensee, illegal trafficking activity is highly probable.”

There goes the “Iron Pipeline of illegal guns being sold to straw purchasers and FedExed to NY so they can kill babies Next Day or your money back” talking point. Not even the Pony Express took that long delivering anything on horseback. To make it simpler: The average illegal weapon recovered in NY was sold almost 14 years ago in 1,999 when the three-times Mayor of NYC was not even a candidate for the position.

How about that?

Why would anybody shoot unarmed teens?

Rules for this particular post: Keep the political/sociological/etc stuff out. This is just an exercise on Self-Defense planning. Any comment going into other than self-defense will be deleted without mercy.

Do watch the video on its entirety as you may find some attacks rather nasty and quite violent. Lessons to learn.

This is a very clear demonstration of the concept of Disparity of Force. Multiple attackers on a 360 degree field does not get any worse. How do we go about defending ourselves from it?

It goes without saying that you better be carrying some sort of weapon. After that, my first thoughts went to “Don’t fall” and “Reduce the field at least to 180 degrees. Shorter if possible.” The video shows how the attackers swarmed over the victims once they went horizontal on the ground and some of the “moves” I would consider to be well into the realm of death or grave bodily harm (the froggy-jumpy move whatever is called in fighting circles.) In cases of high stress, we will go into tunnel vision and that will reduce what we see to a very narrow angle plus we don’t have eyes on the back of our heads so finding a location where our backs are safe from attack has to be a priority, even before reaching for the gun.

Aftermath: Here is where it gets funky. You know you had to defend yourself and now there are a couple of miscreants (poor unarmed toddlers… that is what the media will call them) with ballistic body piercings on the way to the hospital/morgue. Do not count on the fellas with the smartphones recording the events to suddenly have an attack of righteousness, go to the cops and turn in the exculpatory evidence. It ain’t gonna happen. If anything they will turn into witnesses saying all kinds of things to make it look like you came after them as they were practicing songs for the upcoming Gospel Choir competitions to be held in the Vatican next week.

I know the old mantra of stupid places-stupid things-stupid prizes, but sometimes you don’t have a chance or simply trouble comes where you are. I am starting to think that it would be a great idea if we have our own unobtrusive video/audio recording device like the Scorpion Micro DV Recorder and fire it up at the first whiff of trouble.

Any other options? Any other strategies?  Pepper spray perhaps? I am not an expert and I have my doubts about it, but I have been wrong before.

Let it rip and discuss amongst yourselves.

The South Florida Blogs Shoot & Meet (Updated)

I know, I know. I have not forgotten. It has been hectic for me to come up with a decent time frame but I think I got it now.

It is gonna be in the third week of September and I need to know two things: How many people are gonna show and will you rather make it  for Friday night September 20th or Saturday Morning September 21st. Start thinking and planning ahead.

My idea would be to get us one of the nice ranges at Nexus for ourselves and do a bit more than just static bang-bang. I have to work out the details and even if it can be rented. I would love to work with everybody on shooting on the move, from cover and some basic positions. Nothing fancy, just the basics.

You will need a handgun, magazines (3 preferable, more the merrier) holster and mag pouch, eye and ear protection (you may wanna double on ear if you are sensitive), cap or visor, a roll of 1/2 inch masking tape and about 100-150 rounds of ammo. Nexus has ammo and IPSC targets that last longer than just paper ones.

This thing is open to gun bloggers and readers of those blogs. After we are done shooting, we can depart to some nearby eatery and make excuses as why we shot so crappy. One thing…OK, two things: I don’t eat chicken or stuff that lives underwater.

As soon as I have some more details ironed, I’ll let you know.

UPDATE: I should have anticipated that there were going to be a local idiot or two who are not gunnies or fond of the idea that bloggers with guns would meet, shoot lead and shoot the shit. Even though I made the correction from bloggers to gun bloggers, if you like to shoot and respect the Constitution and ALL its amendments, you are more than welcome to come.

I do expect that the Butthurt Brigade will make a fuss but stay home as they live in fabricated fear.

UPDATE 2: I forgot… Nexus have gun rentals…LOTS.

The sad moment you realize you are astroturf.

This has to hurt:
CSGV DonationsThe article from US News & World Report is an eye opener…for the opposition:

In May 2013, six months after the Newtown school shooting that sparked a national conversation on guns – and a month after the Senate failed to pass a major gun bill – Pew found that 25 percent of people who support gun rights had contributed money to a second amendment group, while just 6 percent of people who support gun control had donated on the issue.

And let’s face it. We are against not their astroturfing, but also the Joyce Foundation/’s deep pockets and The Media that gives them ton of free advertising so it is not just a question of cash flow but hard votes:

Those who prioritize gun rights were also more likely not to vote for a candidate who has different gun views – 41 percent of gun rights supporters said they wouldn’t – while fewer gun control supporters, or 31 percent, said a lawmaker’s policy would change the way they voted.

Michael Bane has said more than a couple of times that we will always vote Second Amendment while the opposition will vote for the theme du jour. A true test for any politician is how they respect the Constitution as they cannot say they are for xyz amendments but not for w amendment without committing political suicide for us.

So keep contributing plus phone, fax and email your reps and Senators. And vote 2A always.

The one I’ve been waiting for…..

And my dearest folks at the Cult Coalition to Stop Gun Rights Violence did not disappoint me. Fresh off their Facebook page:

CSGV Vargas
Now, we are all adults here and figure we are gonna have an idiot or two that will obtain a CWP and go do crimes. But it is amazing that the only reason that a person with a CWP would commit is the gun and the evil spirits that inhabit its molecular structure and take over the person holding the gun. There cannot be other, normal reason like Steroid Rage.

Bagos said Vargas complained of bad experiences with women, and blamed his hair loss on steroid use.

Nah, who has ever heard of steroids making people crazy? That is just a myth invented by the NRA. The real reason is those evil spirits mentioned before that will darken the soul of even the saintest of people and immediately transforming them into killers.

The Stupid: It can’t be fixed, but maybe we can sedated it just a bit.

Pennsylvania: No repeal of SYG.

Despite a call from President Barack Obama and protests in major U.S. cities, there seems to be little interest in revisiting, let alone repealing, Pennsylvania’s version of the “stand your ground” law.

via Little local interest in repealing ‘stand your ground’ law.

So basically President Obama, Stevie Wonder and Nancy Grace are the only ones who are still trying to sale this repealing thing.

I keep saying it, this is not a good year for the Gun Control faction.

Stupid: It makes you bulletproof?

This reply from a Twitter-Idiot yesterday had me laughing for a good while:
0rita
Dear Rita: If I was invincible, then I would not need a gun. But as long as I can be injured, it helps me come up with an appropriate defense.

Just saying.
