The Drollery Domicile

For the first time in my life, the lead harpy of modern comedy, Amy Schumer made me laugh.  I caught this headline over at MSN.com.

Dozens Walk Out After Amy Schumer Trashes Trump During Comedy Show

Yep, Amy Schumer’s act finally caught up with her.  She was doing a show when she took a break from the ceaseless cackling about her vagina (seriously, the is the punchline of most of her jokes – thank you third wave feminism for making the word “vagina” a punchline) to go on an anti-Trump and anti-Gun screed.

On Sunday night, about 200 people walked out of Amy Schumer’s show at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida, after she called Donald Trump, among other things, an “orange, sexual-assaulting, fake-college-starting monster.” It’s unclear if the audience had never heard Schumer’s comedy before, or if they’d just completely had it with politics.

I know MSM is run by a bunch of liberals because in no other universe is referring to a presidential candidate as an “orange, sexual-assaulting, fake-college-starting monster” a joke.

Feeling that she hadn’t made it clear how much she loathes people on the other side of the aisle, she decided to go for broke and completely ruin her show.

She made it clear she doesn’t understand how people can support Trump. At one point she asked for a Trump supporter — preferably one with sleeves, she she told security personnel — to join her up on stage to explain their enthusiasm for Trump. One fellow did, but he said he was voted for Trump mainly because doesn’t trust Clinton. When some audience members booed, the actor and comedian invited them to leave and also asked security to remove anyone booing.

That’s right sweetheart.  Insult your audience, but not in an insult comedy way, pick a fight with them, and then throw people out for booing the fact that they paid to see a stand-up routine and not the worlds worst episode of Hardball.

This is what happens when a celebrity becomes more famous for their political rantings than art form.  They throw their political rantings out non stop, the perfect storm of smug self righteousness and ignorance.

The only thing about this story that I find unbelievable is that Amy Schumer drew a crowd of 20,000 people.  I can’t believe that there are 20,000 people that think she is funny.

As I grow older, I realize just how brilliant and prophetic South Park was.  They predicted this comedy routine about 10 years ago.  My only hope is that she continues this type of insufferable behavior until her career implodes and the only person that are willing to host Amy Schumer at an event is Shannon Watts.  Then we’ll never have to hear from her again.

Gun Shop has a Pre-Hillary sale. CSGV elitists go full prejudice.

These are the people who are better than us because they care and would never utter a word of hate or disdain against their fellow human beings. They care so much that the Care Bear are vikings on a rampage compared to them. Here is the usual collage with the best comments:

Is still any doubt out there that surrendering the country to these “enlightened” assholes will be an unrecoverable mistake? Elections have consequences.

Stand Your Ground stands in Alabama.

The Alabama Supreme Court last week rejected an appeal by the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office of a judge’s order tossing out the murder indictment against a former Marine in the shooting death of a mentally unstable woman. The case was a test of  Alabama’s stand your ground law. In a decision with no opinion, the Alabama Supreme Court on Friday refused to review the case of Demetrius R. Watson, of Calera

As usual, you won’t be getting any details in the local press other than the usual less-than-illustrative articles with a slant against SYG. I found the transcript of Alabama Court of Appeals ruling which shed much-needed light on what happened that day. Just the toxicology report of the victim is eye-opening:

syg-alabama

Do read the ruling, it is not very long and it gives you all sorts of details missing in the news such as the woman was literally acting like she was possessed (foaming at the mouth included), went through a wooden fence, ignored a warning shot, said she was not afraid of guns and finally attacked the plaintiff.

syg-alabama-3

What I found disturbingly stupid was the attempt by the State to make the legal possession and carry of a firearm part and parcel of being automatically guilty of murder.

syg-alabama-2

It is the old premeditation scheme (“You only carry if you want to kill somebody. Normal people don’t do that”) which the Appeals Court ignored. It is still used in States which are still creating the jurisprudence around SYG, but so far the Prosecutors are batting a big fat zero. Maybe in states farther north or with Lefty tendencies, we may see a State Supreme Court give it a hearing and even supporting the prosecutor’s side, and that would trigger a SCOTUS case. Then again, first those states would have to pass SYG laws.

So, it is good news for the People of Alabama which now can breathe a bit easier in case they have to face a self-defense situation. Hopefully Prosecutors will learn from this case, but I figure at least one more will try to buck the courts before he gets slapped down by Appeals.

Make it stop

Dear sweet Jesus, Everytown… please, for the love of everything holy, stop making me defend Donald Trump.  Please.  I beg you.

The incorrigible idiots over at Evertown are like a dog with a bone about Trump’s bus ride hot mic statement.

trump-1

And

trump-2

No.

I don’t want to subject my readers to the horrors of having to listen to Trump more than they have to, so let’s go to the transcript of what he said:

Trump: Yeah, that’s her. With the gold. I better use some Tic Tacs just in case I start kissing her. You know, I’m automatically attracted to beautiful — I just start kissing them. It’s like a magnet. Just kiss. I don’t even wait. And when you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything.

Bush: Whatever you want.

Trump: Grab ’em by the pussy. You can do anything.

I really, really, really, don’t want to defend Trump’s statement.  I really don’t.  It’s the kind of asshole dude-bro statement that you’d expect a rich celebrity to make as evidence of just how famous he is, right after telling you how he was invited to buy a Ferrari.

This sophomorically macho chest thumping may win you the Biggest Douche in the Universe Award but it is not in anywhere in the same ballpark as murdering women.

Please, Everytown and the other Bloombergian tinpot dictator wannabes, stop trying to equate the two.  I can imagine Trump trying to get into bed with some other guy’s wife.  I can’t imagine him shooting some other guy’s wife.

I feel terrible for what happened to Ms. Brusk.  But her situation with her husband has nothing to do with Trump.

My ex-husband believed that if he couldn’t have me, no one should. It’s that ownership of women — of our bodies, our minds — that ties directly back to Trump’s lewd comments and a culture of misogyny.

No.   A narcissistic celebrity (redundant) saying that women would let him do what he wanted to them is not anything like “if I can’t have you, no one can, now you’re gonna die.”

Richard Martinez has become the next Ladd Everitt, an anti-gun folk hero, after his son was murdered in the Isla Vista killings.  I feel terrible for Mr. Martinez, I can’t imagine losing my son.  But again, he’s way off base.

Christopher Martinez was killed by Elliot Rodger.  Rodger was a loser who explained the motivation for his killings in his manifesto.

I’m 22 years old and I’m still a virgin. I’ve never even kissed a girl. I’ve been through college for two and a half years, more than that actually, and I’m still a virgin. It has been very torturous. College is the time when everyone experiences those things such as sex and fun and pleasure. Within those years, I’ve had to rot in loneliness. It’s not fair. You girls have never been attracted to me. I don’t know why you girls aren’t attracted to me, but I will punish you all for it. It’s an injustice, a crime, because… I don’t know what you don’t see in me. I’m the perfect guy and yet you throw yourselves at these obnoxious men instead of me, the supreme gentleman.

This is exactly the opposite of Trump.  This racist little shit went on a rampage because no women  would let him touch her …. yeah, don’t make me say it.

Trump’s thin skin, immature narcissism manifests itself as extreme braggadocio, not mass murdering rampage.

The Everytown peanut gallery comments were even worse.

trump-3

Here we go with the triggering.  Not just did Trump commit the mortal sin of being Triggering, he said something bad.  It’s never “‘just’ talk” words are violence.  Trump said p***y and in an instant millions of men slapped their wives.  Its like a Pavlovian response.  The first time I heard Trump’s comment on CNN, something went off in my brain and I just had to get my rape on.  No, wait, I didn’t.  I thought it was some awful dude-bro swagger.

trump-4Yep, gun-lovers are brutes.  Can’t argue with that logic.  Only anti-gun activists are peaceful people who want nothing more that to riot and burn sing kumbaya.  I guess Judith Squires didn’t get the message about dehumanizing language from Jessica Jones.  I’m feeling pretty triggered being called a brute.  That’s not nice.

Michael Kaczkowski upped the ante by going full retard.  Good to know that he thinks the men that took up arms against the Nazis were a bunch of mentally ill degenerates.  I think his comment shows either a complete lack of self awareness or absolute projection.  Either way, he’s being ableist and I’m triggered.

Look, I get it.  Trump is bloviating twat.  What he said was gross.  It wasn’t a call for violence against women.  It didn’t advocate for beating or shooting women.  In fact, if you watch the video, as soon as he’s done saying this crap and he gets off the bus, he gives the woman in purple a one arm friend hug and a cheek kiss and says his wife said that was OK.  He’s a hypocrite.  Big talk on the bus and a total wimp when he gets off of it.  That’s not a wife beater.  That’s a dude-bro.

So, please, Everytown.  Stop pushing this “Trump = violence against women” act.  It’s inaccurate, and you made me write an entire post defending him.

I hate you all the more for that.

Nothing good happens after midnight…

The 15-year-old daughter of Olympian Tyson Gay died early Sunday at University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital after a shooting at Cook Out restaurant on South Broadway, according to the Fayette County coroner. Trinity Gay was shot in the neck about 4 a.m., police said.Trinity died at 4:41 a.m. at the hospital, according to the coroner. She initially was taken to another hospital by a private vehicle being transferred to UK hospital, police said…

At around 2 a.m., Trinity Gay made a reference to Cook Out on her Twitter account, and Tweeted “Of course they start shootin”.

I won’t go into the “what’s a 15-year-old doing out so late” since that is probably the first thing that will come to your minds. And for all we know at the time of writing, she was with an adult, maybe a relative, that will eventually come out. Already an arrest has been made and unsurprisingly, the alleged shooter is a felon with a record for cocaine trafficking: Dvonta Middlebrooks.

Cook Out is a chain of fast food restaurants that advertise inexpensive food and the particular location shows that they stay open till 4:00 AM. One of the things about nighttime is that few locales are open to the public and they attract people who are partying, working or even committing crimes. In case nobody has told you, even bad guys get hungry and want a bite of something to calm their stomachs. So, what you have at Oh Dark Hundred when you want to get that burger, is the very strong chance that you will be rubbing elbows with some unsavory characters. Maybe nothing will happen or maybe, like in this case, you catch a bullet addressed to whom it may concern because one set of bad guys saw another set and they were declared enemies.

I have worked nights or part nights most of my adult life. I learned that it is better to carry my lunch and eat at work rather than chance going out for take out. But I also made the effort to learn where are the restaurants where cops like go eat and which by definition criminals avoid.

And as always… if you play stupid games…

Update: A second set of arrests has been made. Chazerae Taylor (Felon), and D’markeo Taylor, father and son.

Update 2: Via David Yamane who got is a screen cap and the Twitter username for Trinity Gay.

The question remains: Is there another explanation for “Of course they start shootin” other than a previous exchange of gunfire?

Semper Tyrannis

A tad over two years ago, the Village Voice published a story about the abuse of like laws in New York City.  The abuse of knife laws was by the NYPD, and the NYPD deliberately misapplied an anti-gravity knife law to arrest people on weapons charges.

According to the vast majority of police departments and district attorneys in New York State — not to mention knife manufacturers, labor unions, and almost everyone else who knows a thing about knives — what Neal was carrying was a perfectly legal folding knife. When gravity knives were banned under New York State law in the 1950s, the legislature actually had a very specific style of weapon in mind — a foot-long terror that bears no resemblance to a knife like the one Neal had. True gravity knives, for all intents and purposes, have been extinct for the better part of a century; today they’re relegated mostly to the antiques section on eBay.

Nonetheless, under the department’s unique interpretation of Penal Code 265.01, almost every pocketknife on the market today can be considered a gravity knife. It’s as if authorities in New York City were using an antiquated law against flintlock muskets to prosecute BB-gun owners.

The NYPD uses what they call the “wrist flick” method to determine if a knife is a gravity knife.  This is the NYPD wrist flick:

knife_flick_gif

Flicking the knife wildly, multiple times, finally getting it to open; this method will get every lock back knife made classified as an illegal gravity knife.

And they know it.

The NYPD has been using the gravity knife ban to boost their arrest numbers by targeting people with ordinary pocket knives, generally picking them out by the telltale pocket clip.

The NYPD was deliberately abusing the law to arrest innocent people to make themselves look better on paper rather than stopping real crimes…  I’m shocked.

Here is where this story takes a turn for the bizarre.

The NYPD bit off more than it can chew this time.  As it turns out, the overwhelming majority of people that were getting arrested for gravity knife violations for ordinary pocket knives were law abiding, working class people.

From the NYT:

But the modern knives sold in countless stores bear little resemblance to the knives that were the original subjects of the ban. Many people, including carpenters, construction workers and stagehands, have no idea that their knives can be made to open with a flick of a wrist — a skill many New York police officers have developed.

It’s not just laborers and construction workers that were feeling the pinch, but people who do the manual work in NYC’s theater and entertainment industry.

From the Village Voice:

Others had noticed too. Daniel Gilloon, a representative with the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, a trade union, says arrests of its members have become so routine that the leadership had to get involved. Now, several times a month, IATSE’s president sits down to send form letters to local D.A.s, on the behalf of this or that member, explaining what the knife is for. In his industry, Gilloon adds, pocketknives aren’t just common but, in fact, mandatory equipment. Stagehands who show up without a knife can actually be disciplined for coming to work unprepared. “It happens all the time,” he says of the arrests

The people targeted by the NYPD for gravity knife violations were usually minorities – 86% of the time, arrestees were black.

By targeting working class minorities for undue arrest, the NYPD kicked the liberal hornets nest.  Liberal groups and organisations that started pushing for an end to the abuse of NY’s knife laws by the NYPD and making NYC safe for pocketknife EDC include:

The Village Voice (who broke the story)

Think Progress

The New York Times editors

The NAACP

The NYCLU (NY Civil Liberties Union – same link as above)

Brooklyn Defender Services (the Brooklyn public defender)

The Legal Aid Society

Just about any time the police start abusing their power, the Libertarians show up.  Yes some are goofy, but the CATO Institute is a powerful DC think tank, and they have wandered into the fray.

The slightly right of center Wall Street Journal has come out against NYC’s gravity knife law abuse.

It’s no secret in the gun community that the Venn Diagram of gun people and knife people is a perfect circle.  We feel an attack on knife rights as keenly as we do an attack on gun rights, because they generally come from the same source.  I doubt that there is anybody out there with a CCW permit that didn’t start by carrying a pocket knife.  Knives are the gateway drug for guns.

So without a doubt, the NRA had to chime in on this.

I am glad that they did.  I’ve always wished that the NRA would use its considerable power as a lobbying organization to fight for knife rights.  Yes, the Knife Rights Foundation exists, but it is rather new and doesn’t have the gravitas that the NRA does.

Left, Right, and Center have come out against the NYPD’s abuse of gravity knife laws and have demanded some sort of legislative change to correct this situation.

So who is standing in the way.  At the top, Mayor Bill de Blasio.  Let me lay down a little bit of truth:

When the NY Times, NAACP, ACLU, WSJ, and NRA all come together to hold hands on something and agree that you are being tyrannical asshole, you know you screwed up.

It is hard to be so wrong about something that that the the NY Times, NAACP, ACLU, WSJ, and NRA are simultaneously right in calling you out on it, but de Blasio managed to be that wrong.

Granted, de Blasio legalized peeing and drinking in the streets and the other quality of life crimes that Mayor Giuliani cracked down on, cleaning up NYC.

nyp-blasio

Under de Blasio, it is totally legal for me to take a dump in a doorway and wash my ass in a fountain, but my Spyderco Delica will get me thrown in jail.

This guy is wrong on everything.

Who else?

Former NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton, who took to the NY Daily News with this histrionic OpEd.

I dispute the argument of the gravity-knife-rights advocates that it is largely tradespeople and other legitimate knife users who carry these blades and who are being arrested by overzealous police officers. Knives of this type, which can be opened very quickly, are self evidently designed to be weapons — and most of the people who carry them apparently do so for that general purpose.

There are many alternative cutting instruments for tradespeople, including the widely used utility knife with a half-inch blade and the standard folding knife that requires that requires manual blade manipulation and some pressure to open.

Why would anyone need a rapidly deployable four-inch blade? Among the historical reasons for self-opening knives include hand-to-hand military combat and quick-action parachute disengagement. Do the members of the state legislature have good reasons to carry such knives? Do the readers of this column?

Oh look… the head of the organization that got caught red handed abusing a law using to unjustifiably arrest tradesmen is telling them what tools they should be using.  Not to mention that the claim that a folding knife is a traditional weapon for military hand-to-hand combat.  I guess William Fairbairn and Eric Sykes wasted their time and should have been handing out pocket knifes to the SAS.  Beyond that, I doubt that most people who carry a pocket knife do so with malice aforethought.  I sure don’t.  Which is why, as a reader of his column, I can answer his question:

I have countless reasons to carry a one handed folder.  Opening every sort of industrial grade plastic packaging that every little item comes in now days.  Fingernails.  Cutting up fast food into bite size pieces for the toddler so he doesn’t choke.  Emergencies.  Lastly,  because f**k you , that’s why.

Anybody else?

How about New York County District Attorney Cyrus Vance, Jr.  His OpEd states:

We provided a memorandum to the Legislature proposing amendments to the law in fairness to those who carry gravity knives for bona fide trade or business reasons.  That memorandum sets forth reasonable ways to address the legitimate concerns of tradespeople without compromising public safety.

Except, if the city of NYC wasn’t busy busting tradesmen for their pocket knives why would they be paying out multiple settlements for wrongful arrest, NBC wouldn’t be doing stories on TV about arrested electricians, and judges wouldn’t be tossing gravity knife convictions.

So the worst mayor NYC has ever had, his top cop, and the guy that lies in court on their behalf are trying to stand up to the most diverse group of political interests ever that has come together on a single issue.

The state legislature has pushed forward with a reform to NY’s gravity knife laws to legalize regular pocket knives.  De Blasio protested it because statists got to state and tyrants got to tyrant.  Unfortunately it now falls on the desk of “I don’t know s**t bout guns, but I’m going to ban them during an abuse of the emergency act” Governor Andrew Cuomo.
Asking a guy who abuses the law to ban guns to pass a bill that stops the NYPD from abusing the law that bans knives seems like a long shot.

Remember people, when you elect a tyrant, there is no end to their tyranny.  They will control whatever they can, not because it is good or bad, but because they desire the control.  Nothing is safe.  You want to control the guns and you get people who arrest handymen for their tools.

All I can say is pray for the good people of NYC.  Maybe a few will come away from this with their eyes a little more open.
