I loved Lost in Space as a kid. I forget what channel it was on when I was growing up, but I had Lassie, Lost in Space, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea and I love them all.
So I was giddy when Netflix announced a reboot.
What a fucking Turd it turned out to be.
The original 1965 series was hopeful. We were in the space race and so that was mirrored in the show, with a space race to be the first to colonize another planet.
The 2018 series had to be dark and gritty so it’s not space race, the Earth is/was destroyed and we have no choice but to colonize another planet. This isn’t ambitious hope, this is desperation.
They also did a major rewrite of the characters, in a really awful way.
John Robinson is no longer a professor of astrophysics. He’s a Marine of undeclared rank. In typical Hollywood fashion, he’s casually stupid and barely scientifically literate. He doesn’t know his kids, especially Will, and is gruff with them.
Maureen Robinson is no longer a biochemist. She is now an aerospace engineer. She is a miserably, ball busing woman who dislikes her husband. She filed for divorce before the Jupiter mission, but canceled it so not to leave her children’s father on earth to die.
The girls Penny and Judy are teenage girls. They fight a lot.
Will is not a child prodigy. In fact, he failed the test to qualify for the Jupiter mission and his mom had to do some sort of string pulling to get him on the mission.
That alone really makes the show something awful, that whatever world they lived in, the powers that be would break up a family of colonists. “Sure, we will save you and two of your children from extinction, but you have to leave your son behind because he didn’t pass a test.”
Don West isn’t a major. He’s a criminal who crashed on a different ship.
The Robot is an alien the find on the planet they crash on. It also caused the crash.
Dr. Smith is actually Parker Posey having stolen a real doctor’s identity.
I don’t know which writer(s) at Netflix Studios have a minor in Women’s Studies, they need to be fired.
Every male character in the show is awful. Flat fucking awful.
Sure, the 1965 show was Leave It To Beaver in space. In the original show both parents were scientists. Why did dad have to be turned into an idiot, estranged from his kids? Couldn’t Maureen’s role as a biochemist in the original show been more enhanced?
Why does Will have to be the only kid not cut out for the mission?
Why should I care about a dysfunctional family lost in space? What is entertaining about a super smart ball busting wife resent saving her borderline estranged idiot husband from an apocalypse?
And this show is recommended in Netflix Kids. Yeah, it is.
Bright was fantastic. Stranger Things is worthy of all the praise heaped upon it.
Lost in Space is a big, fat turd that ruined a beloved show from my childhood.
It actually makes me appreciate how much closer the awful, awful 1998 move was to the original show than this.
Please Netflix, don’t renew this crap fest for a second season.
Amazing director. He did not do a lot of movies, but he had some great ones: One Flew over the Cuckoo’s nest, Hair and in my opinion his best: Amadeus.
Mike Pompeo is Trump’s nominee for Secretory of State.
Yesterday, he was questioned during his confirmation hearing by Senator Cory Booker.
This happened:
Yes, you saw that correctly. A sitting United States Senator tried to disqualify a former Congressman and CIA director as the Secretary of State because the man has a dislike of ass fuckery.
What this says about the state of America is incredible.
The First thing to note is just how fast Booker is to throw out Article Six of the Constitution.
The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.
Technically Booker can’t say “we don’t want you because you are a Christian.” So what he is doing is saying “we don’t want you for holding a normal, mainstream Christian belief.” Which is essentially the same thing.
The whole point of prohibiting religious tests for office was to protect minority rights. Under Booker and the Democrats, the minority seems to think it has the right to ban the majority religion from office, flipping the point of the article on its head.
But the big picture takeaway of this exchange is that Cory Booker, representing Left Wing Democrat America seems to believe that any form of personal standards or values is equal to bigotry.
If you asked me “do you think that gay sex is a perversion?” I will say “Yes, butt sex is gross. Ewww…”
That is a personal standard. Should that disqualify me from a job or an elected office?
There are a lot of personal and sexual behaviors that are gross, but the opinion of Senator Booker and the people he represents, is that thinking that is wrong.
Second, what this demonstrates beyond any doubt is that Senator Booker and the Left he is part of cannot compartmentalize. There is no separation of the personal, professional, and political.
Essentially, if I think that butt sex is gross, I cannot help but dislike (or even hate) people who have butt sex, and then I will undoubtedly use whatever power I have to oppresses that person.
This is in stark contrast to the Christian value of “hate the sin, love the sinner.” The point that Pompeo was trying to make and Conservatives seem to understand is that it is possible to disagree with one aspect of a person but still respect them as a person and treat them fairly as an employee.
I value the good work that you do, I just don’t want to hear about your butt sexcapades.
We have seen this all over America recently, especially on college campuses, the idea that disagreement is oppression.
The natural – if not slippery slope – outcome of this is a valueless society. Anything goes all the time because anytime one person exerts a personal value, they commit the ultimate offence of being a bigot.
Oh wait, we’ve already seen that in the UK where gangs of Muslim men have engaged in massive child sex grooming rings which were totally ignored by the police in fear of being Islamophobic.
This is just another tick mark in the “pro” column for justifying a national divorce. A sitting US Senator wants to put having a Secretary of State who is strong on American defense and the economy below a Secretary of State who is completely accepting of ass fuckery.
As long as no one feels judged for their sexual predilections by a member of the Cabinet, who care how many of our embassies burn down.
It explains why the flavor of the month is a kid throwing Nazi-like salutes.
It explains why his companion’s fashion statement is to look like she is about to hit the showers at Auschwitz.
It explains why they want to send us to camps.
It explains why they using sacred words like “Never Again” as a cheap Twitter hashtag. It explains why they want us dead.
Remember back in February when Delta dropped the NRA discount and the Georgia GOP decided to repay Delta for getting political by sticking them with $40 Million in taxes?
Some Republican Congressmen are going for record in “hold my beer” one-upmanship.
Sixteen Republican congressmen are asking the General Services Administration (GSA) to reevaluate a $700 billion contract with Citibank as a result of the the financial institution’s “anti-Second Amendment policies.”
That is $700 Billion.
I’m going to write every word out just so the magnitude of it sinks in: seven hundred billion dollars.
This is what the Congressmen had to say.
“This flagrant attempt to undermine our fundamental rights by caving to radicals should not be endorsed by our federal government,”the congressmen added. “The federal government should instead do business with companies that respect all of our constitutional rights, including the Second Amendment. GSA should take all necessary steps to review and terminate its contract with Citibank unless they rescind their guidelines, and rebid the SmartPay 3 contract.”
“This flagrant disregard for American citizens and their God-given Second Amendment rights cannot be tolerated,” Rokita said in a statement to TheDCNF. The congressman is challenging incumbent Democratic Indiana Sen. Joe Donnelly in November.
“Those who seek to undermine those God-given rights do not deserve taxpayer dollars and should be denied federal contracts. Congress has sworn to uphold the Constitution, and it is paramount that we stand united for the American people and their right to bear arms,” said Rokita.
That’s going to leave a mark on their bottom line. The resulting devaluation of Citigroup should cause heads to roll in the board room.
Like I said just a few days ago, when banks that benefit from the goverment and taxpayers think they can start playing partisan politics, politicians from the other side of the aisle will start to push back.
I figured new regulations were coming.
A $700 Billion “fuck your balance sheet” is even better.
I salute these Congressmen. I enthusiastically support giving these banks a financial version of the ol’ Bobby Trippe.
