Rest in Power: Part 3

I just finished Rest in Power: The Trayvon Martin Story, Part 3.  This is the worst episode yet.

It starts with Trayvon Martin being compared to Emmett Till.  Yes, they did that.

Then the show goes to Joy-Ann Reid of MSNBC scandal fame who has a recurring role explaining various aspects of narrative.  She starts talking about the Marissa Alexander case and how Angela Corey prosecuted Ms. Alexander.  Joy-Ann Reid knows nothing about stand your ground, and fails to explain how going to the garage, getting a gun, and then going back into the house to fire a warning shot is illegal and is not stand your ground.  She simply juxtaposes a warning shot – which is implied to be harmless – with killing someone.

There was no legal analysis, simply feelings.  Since Marissa Alexander is black and George Zimmerman is white, clearly Corey is racist regardless of what the law says.

This episode was supposed to be about the start of the case, but the middle 30 minutes was a Social Justice thesis.  This is what was presented:

George Zimmerman was half white, half Afro-Peruvian.  He had minority friends.  Then he started dating and married a white woman so he tried to “become white.”  Part of that was getting into guns because guns are part of “white christian male culture” and by liking guns he could be more white.

The aggressive racist Michael Eric Dyson launched into an explanation that Hispanics can be “white” by “not being black” and that George Zimmerman was trying to “aspire to be white.”

The NRA was brought up by the Social Justice commentator and attacked.   The NRA was accused of having a business model in which it “scares white people into buying guns” and then tells the scared white people that they should be able to shoot anyone at anytime for not being white and scaring them.

Yes, this was really said.  This is the history lesson talking from Bowling for Columbine.  White people are paranoid of everyone that doesn’t look like them and want guns to shoot the people that scare them.  That this is both wrong and horribly racist is never brought up.

The latter half of the episode went into the issuance of bail then the discovery a second passport and the change of the bail, as well as the funds raised by Zimmerman and his wife.

Where this really went off the rails was in the promotion of the idea that Zimmerman was some sort of Right Wing hero.

This can’t be restated enough, he wasn’t.  A tiny fraction of people who are white supremacists did back him.  Overwhelmingly the “other side” – the people who were not beatifying Trayvon – wanted the rule of law not the rule of emotion and hysteria.  The creation of a narrative, the way Trayvon and Zimmerman were presented, all was a perversion of justice.  Rather than deal with facts in a court, it was a show trial with the intent of a TV pop culture conviction and that is terrible.

Think about what we’ve seen in the last couple of days regarding the Unite the Right anniversary march.  There were maybe a couple of dozen neo-Nazis.  There were hundreds of Antifa.  It was the Antifa that smashed stuff, attacked cops, and caused the havoc.  The media has worked diligently to portray a pathetic group of white supremacists as the bread and butter of the Republican party, which as been denouncing them.  On the other hand, the media has worked hard to cover up the Antifa violence, despite that Leftist pundits and talking heads defend Antifa.

Rest in Power is doing the same thing.  It is trying to make the handful of racists who supported Zimmerman into being the core of the pro-self defense side, because it’s easier to say “they are all racists who wanted Trayvon to get shot” than it is to explain the importance of an impartial judicial system that runs on facts and not a media circus.

The whole point of this show is to re-litigate the case with the purpose of convicting Zimmerman, Trump, and everybody to the right of #BlackLivesMatter in the court of public opinion before an election.

Now I am agreeing with David Hogg (what a day)

A 14 year old boy is running for the Governor of Vermont.  He can because Vermont has no age restriction.  He is running on a platform of strict gun control.

David Hogg as endorsed him.

I endorse him too.

I encourage everyone in Vermont to vote for him and elect him as the governor.

Yes, I’m serious.

I want a 14 year old who gets a $20/week allowance to manage the budget of the state.  I want a 14 year old to have to deal with the emergency services of a state.  I want a 14 year old to be governor.

Yes, I realize that this will bankrupt Vermont and do permanent damage to the economy of the state.

If the Democrats want to run childish adults, they might as well run children, and then they will have to face the consequences.

“The young people will win and then turn it into a dystopian nightmare.”

Maybe that will be enough to get the mainstream to ignore them.

Where I agree with Wil Wheaton – update

I saw this Tweet from Wil Wheaton:

https://twitter.com/wilw/status/1028092816499433472

Using thread reader I have unrolled his thread for easier blog reading (I’m going to start doing this with threads).

I have not looked at Twitter since … Sunday? Maybe early Monday morning? And I had a *great* week. Twitter has become terrible, and my life is better without it. Maybe yours will be, too. Try cutting it out, entirely, just for the weekend. We’ll talk about it Monday.

Logged out on Friday, and spent the whole weekend being present with my family, creating art I care about, pretending to be an adult, and not having the angry hate machine buzzing in my pocket. My small experiment says life is better without Twitter. 1/

It’s a real shame that Twitter’s leadership doesn’t seem to care about the hateful people it empowers, and enforces its own TOS so unevenly, giving preferential treatment to high profile people like Alex Jones, who have *clearly* broken that same TOS. 2/

The Alex Jones thing is the last straw for me. Every other social network has rightfully removed that awful man’s ability to use their platform to spew his hate, to attack and hurt people like the Sandy Hook parents, except Twitter. Why? I believe it’s a failure of leadership. 3/

I’m just posting this here for the few of you who care: I’m planning to sign out and stay signed out unless and until Twitter follows the leadership of other social networks, and says enough is enough to Alex Jones and people like him. 4/

Twitter is a private business and can decide who and what it promotes and enables. There are certain things that just should be outside the bounds of civil society. Attacking parents whose children were murdered should be one of those things. 5/

Twitter used to be fun. It was a potential force for good in the world, but it’s become the social network equivalent of that cool punk club that was taken over by skinheads, and I don’t want to be part of it any more. 6/

So a bunch of us are hoping that Twitter will take Alex Jones’ hate and cruelty and flaunting of Twitter’s own TOS seriously, and ban him. If you want to join us, @shannoncoulter has made it really easy to take some action. 7/

Thanks for listening. If you just can’t live without my dumb jokes, #Resistance posts, and pictures of my pets, I’ll still be at Instagram and Facebook (itswilwheaton)

Wil is upset that Twitter still has Alex Jones on the platform and wants to boycott Twitter until they shut him up.

I don’t agree with him on that.

I do agree that Twitter has become toxic as a sewer in Norlisk.

I recently was permanently suspended from Twitter.  I made about a dozen tweet and total number of Tweets and replies since I created the account during the 2016 election is 680.  I had less than a dozen followers and followed eight people.

The justification I got was “After investigating your appeal, we have determined that your account posted content that was threatening and/or promoting violence in violation of the Twitter Terms of Service. Accordingly, your account has been suspended and will not be restored.”

I have no idea what I said that was threatening or promoting violence.  Really.  I don’t.  And Twitter won’t tell you.

I have no desire to go back to Twitter.  I got rid of Facebook back in 2008 and never looked back.  I don’t have an Instagram account or YouTube channel.  Other than this blog, my social media presence is zero.

I have decided this is for the best.

Here is my prediction:  Social media will implode on Wednesday, November 4, 2020.

Currently the Democrats do no have a coherent message other than “We hate Trump.”  Second to that is “we love socialism” which is less of a winning strategy than they think it will be.  To anybody with a brain, Peter Strzok made the FBI look as corrupt as humanly possible.  Now that he got fired, the Democrats have turned him into a hero and are buying him a lavish lifestyle for committing perjury and destroying the last of the FBI’s reputation.

So I have a feeling Trump will get reelected.

Social media has become a cesspool of harassment and shaming and it is clear that the founders, owners, and managers of these sites are terribly biased.

My fear is that come the reelection of Donald Trump, the Left on social media will lose the last of their shit.  Anybody who is not in total lockstep with them will be a target for complete annihilation.

Did you not spend election night cursing Trump on your Twitter feed?  Congrats, you will now be doxxed.  Any clients or business partners you have will be harassed until they drop you.  You will lose your job, your income, your house, your friends, everything.

Actually hurting people is hard work, but internet mob shaming is right up their alley.

This is where I see it going and getting off social media before the fallout might be the smartest plan.

Maybe I’m being paranoid, but things are going downhill quickly.

Not 5 minutes later I see this:

https://twitter.com/jaredgaut/status/1029170712450228225

Translation: “We should use Social Justice to silence dissenters to our orthodoxy.”

This is coming from a Twitter employee.  The people who have access to your data.  Let that sink in.

More proof that Democrats think that the goverment is God

Remember all the way back in 2008 when candidate Barack Obama said this at his nomination speech:

The journey will be difficult. The road will be long. I face this challenge with profound humility, and knowledge of my own limitations. But I also face it with limitless faith in the capacity of the American people. Because if we are willing to work for it, and fight for it, and believe in it, then I am absolutely certain that generations from now, we will be able to look back and tell our children that this was the moment when we began to provide care for the sick and good jobs to the jobless; this was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal; this was the moment when we ended a war and secured our nation and restored our image as the last, best hope on Earth.

Yep.  The nomination of Barack Obama was enough to counter climate change and heal the planet.  Not one policy was implemented that could do that, if it could do that, but that didn’t matter.  The right ideologue was chosen.

Fast forward to Florida today.

https://twitter.com/MayorLevine/status/1028320542867316736

Philip Levine was the Mayor of Miami and is running against Rick Scott.  I have nothing for Scott, but this Tweet is total bullshit.

According to the microbiology lab at Carleton College, here are some facts about red tides.

What Causes Red Tide?
Major factors influencing red tide events include warm ocean surface temperatures, low salinity, high nutrient content, calm seas, and rain followed by sunny days during the summer months (NOAA). In addition, algae related to red tide can spread or be carried long distances by winds, currents, storms, or ships.

Anybody growing up in Florida on on the Eastern Seaboard might remember warnings about not going in the water during red tides.  They happen this time of year, some times more, sometimes less.  Warm water and lots of sunlight drive the blooms.

According to Levine, Scott’s lack of leadership has failed to solve the problem of red tides.

How?  How is Scott supposed to stop the sun from rising early and setting late and warming the water?

Agricultural runoff does add nutrients to the water which exacerbates the blooms, but even then, this is a battle with one of Florida’s other largest economic drivers: farming.

Cattle, sugar cane, citrus, fruit, does Levine want to shut down Central Florida the way California politicians shut down the agriculture of the Central Valley of California over the delta smelt?

No governor can end a natural phenomenon.  That is outside the powers of humanity.  But that doesn’t sink in with Levine.  If he wins, the red tide will end.  Somehow.  Maybe by destroying Florida’s agricultural sector in the deep Red areas of the state.  Somehow.

It was one thing for Obama to claim victory over the oceans.  We all know he was Democrat Jesus come to life.  Now every Democrat politician seems to want to pull off the impossible by a wave of the hand and the promise of government action.  They think they are gods.

The mentality has not changed much through the years.

They just became multi-ethic in their way of thinking. And interesting the way even back then they used service in the military as an excuse to restrict gun ownership for civilians. You wanna play with guns? Join the Military!

No one ever entertained the idea of indiscriminate arming of blacks, without putting them in ranks, and subjecting them to control. There could be no inhumanity greater than that of placing arms in the hands of the blacks of the South, and letting them roam over the land, committing indiscriminate murder and devastation. It was to avoid that that he would have the negroes mustered into service The blacks would otherwise fall Into excesses which would have to be corrected by the strong arm of the nation.

Chicago Tribune, July 10, 1862

I feel like something is missing

I went back and looked at the Twitter feeds for David Hogg, Emma Gonzalez, Fred Guttenberg, and Shannon Watts.  People that claim that they want to end mass shootings and school shootings.

I didn’t find one single Tweet about the Imam in New Mexico that had set up a compound to train children to become school shooters or that the people who ran the compound were just released on $20,000 bond.

I thought that people who claim to want to stop school shootings would be all over a story about a school shooter training camp.  I guess I was wrong.

I wonder why that could be.
