Sheriff Israel is trying to martyr himself

An update to the story in m previous post Sheriff Israel to be removed and I’m not happy about it – Updated.

It seems that Sheriff Israel didn’t like the negative press and decided to set the martyrdom narrative himself.

From Fox News:

DeSantis’ office denies suspending Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ office on Tuesday denied that the governor officially suspended Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel, following reports of the sheriff’s imminent removal.

A spokesperson for DeSantis told Fox News that no one from the governor’s team has had any contact with Israel or his attorneys and have not communicated to him that he’ll soon be suspended.

Separately, in a statement to Fox News, Israel’s attorney Stuart Kaplan said that they “have received no official word from the Governor or his office on any position with respect to the removal or suspension of the Sheriff.”

“The Sheriff has been steadfast to ensure his command staff and all the men and women in the BSO know that his commitment and dedication is unwavering,” the statement continued. “He is focused on protecting and serving the citizens of Broward County.”

Sheriff Israel and the whole Broward Sheriff’s Office really came off looking like shit in the Parkland Commission Report.  To be fair, they really were shit.

SRO Scot Peterson acting like a chicken shit coward and hiding for the entirety of the shooting was bad, but him getting on the radio and sending bad information was worse.

Deputies stopping 1,000 feet from the school and hanging out and others dawdling, taking 10 minutes to put on their body armor, was abysmal.

Captain Jan Jordan being visibly overwhelmed and losing control of the scene was an epic level of incompetence.

All of that in the face of Sheriff Israel going on CNN and saying that he gave Amazing Leadership looks so bad I don’t have words to describe it.

I don’t think he expected the Parkland Commission to happen or that other Sheriffs would break down the blue wall and openly criticize him and his department.

I think he floated the rumor of his own removal to try and start the ball rolling on his victim status and political martyrdom.  The last part of his statement is key, “The Sheriff has been steadfast to ensure his command staff and all the men and women in the BSO know that his commitment and dedication is unwavering.”

The Sheriff is still doing his job and the mean, Republican governor is going to stop him.

Sheriff Israel is a narcissist of Obama proportions.  Not just does he have no shame for his handling of the Parkland shooting, nor does he understand how the failures of his subordinates reflects so poorly on him, but he first public act after the scathing report on his hamfistedness is to try to generate sympathy for himself with the rumor of removal.

He is a complete piece of shit.

Deep social psychology at 5:30 am

My son woke up early and climbed into our bed.  My wife and I were already up and getting ready for work.  He was watching my wife put on makeup and asked me “what is mommy doing?”

“She’s painting her face.”

“Why?”

How do you answer that to 4-1/2 year old with your wife standing right there?

“To make herself more pretty” is definitely the wrong answer, so that’s out.

“She’s changing her face” was the best I could come up with.

“I want mommy to stay like mommy.”

Oh dear god, now I am going to cause the child to have some sort of complex.

Not to sound like a feminist, but I really don’t want to go into the sociology of the expectation of professional women in the workplace wearing makeup, especially with a 4-1/2 year old at 5:30 am.

“See, mommy still looks like mommy.”

“No, she doesn’t.”

He is a very literal child.

“Mommy is trying to hide her identity.”

“Okay.”

Okay, now the child is damaged but the questioning has stopped.

Why can’t he ask normal questions like “why is the sky blue.”  I have a whole speech prepared on Rayleigh scattering to deal with that.

Trying to explain why mommy puts on makeup for work without insulting my wife or making him think that women have to wear makeup to be pretty is a philosophical challenge I was not prepared for.

Since I have discussed makeup, I feel compelled to turn this over to a higher authority on the subject than myself.

And

So much for accepting all types

Most folks in the Boston Pink Pistols don’t want to be in this story because they don’t want to out themselves as gun owners or advocates. They say there’s more of a stigma in Massachusetts being a gun owner than being gay.

Sheriff Israel to be removed and I’m not happy about it – Updated

From the Miami Herald:

Broward Sheriff Scott Israel tells staff he’s being suspended over Parkland response

It appears that Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel is preparing to pack up his office.

The two-term sheriff, the object of fierce criticism over BSO’s handling of the Parkland massacre, told his top commanders that he will be removed from office by Gov. Ron DeSantis, sources have told the Miami Herald.

DeSantis, who was sworn in Tuesday morning, had not made a formal announcement of a possible suspension. Israel’s discussions with staff about his ouster was first reported by Miami New Times.

Stuart N. Kaplan, one of Israel’s lawyers, said Israel was in his office at the public safety building in Fort Lauderdale working on Tuesday.

“The governor has not said anything to us, directly or indirectly, as to whether or not the sheriff is going to be suspended,’’ Kaplan said. “He is working and continues to serve the citizens of Broward County.’’

But Jeff Bell, BSO’s union chief, said Israel told his staff on Monday that his ouster was inevitable.

“We know that he is telling everyone at the public safety building that he is going to be gone,’’ said Bell, who was at DeSantis’ swearing-in ceremony in Tallahassee on Tuesday.

Personally, I have come to the conclusion that this is a terrible idea.

Sheriff Israel has been described as “the most powerful Democrat” in Florida’s most Democratic county.  DeSantis is a Republican who won by a narrow margin.

Rule Number 1 of big government is: never admit to the failing of big government.

As mad as many people in Broward are at Sheriff Israel, I doubt most of them can admit that he was a worthless piece of shit whose incompetence led to the deaths of all those people.

They will twist and turn and pervert the truth until Sheriff Israel is turned into a martyr for wanted to push gun control in the “Gunshine state” ousted by a mean and nasty Republican with an axe to grind after his near loss in the recount in Broward and embarrassing the NRA on CNN.

That fits the narrative much better than the facts of Parkland Commission Report.

I mean, really… the Parkland Commission was made up of a bunch of Sheriffs from those redneck, Red counties up state.

I predict that within a year, definitely by the next election, when the Parkland Commission Report is stale in people’s minds, Sheriff Israel will be back, proclaiming his greatness and will be held up as the victim of a political hatchet job at the hands those awful Republicans.

Broward County residents elected Sheriff Israel, if they don’t trust him they can vote him out next election.

Update

A buddy of mine in Broward, who lives only a couple of miles from Parkland, agrees with my assessment but proposed one other potential that we agreed to be a positive outcome.

Sheriff Israel eats his service weapon out of disgrace.

It would be a fitting end to that coward.

This will end poorly

From the article:

California would be the first state to cover immigrants without legal status who are younger than 26 through Medi-Cal, the state’s health program for people with low incomes. California already covers undocumented children until they turn 19, with Newsom’s plan increasing the age cut-off to mirror that of the Affordable Care Act, which allows young adults to stay on a parent’s health insurance plan until turning 26.

And how exactly would California identify illegals as being under 26 if they are undocumented?

Why do I suspect that California is going to start seeing a lot of gray haired 25 year old illegals with early onset geriatric problems?

I am sorry to see this is still a thing among some alleged gun people.

I am so glad to see that the economy is so effing good, all Americans can buy a custom-made 1911 from Wilson Combat with a holster made by your craftsman of choice in unicorn hide and rivets of gold.

From the SI article:

I learned that, of all the guns displayed in the store, these were the ones flying off the shelf. Why? Well, despite its MSRP of more than $300, these guns can be found for sale under $200, a price that’s much easier to swallow than a comparable gun nearing three bills…

…Of course, to carry a gun like the Taurus G2C, you need a holster. For those on a budget, Uncle Mike’s has long been a go-to for affordable concealed-carry rigs, and the brand stays true to its consumer base with its latest Apparition holster.

You see, the idea behind the series of articles titled “I Carry” is equipment that people will carry for self-defense and not a effing tactical fashion show to impress your fellow snobs.

When I moved to the States, I could not afford even a Glock and I just happened to bump across a used Taurus Pt-92 relegated to the bottom of a display in a gun shop and just over $200.  Truth be told, I can’t remember if it had a spare mag, but the gun and a box of FMJs came home with me. Next I knew, we had a hurricane watch, people were freaking out, (us included) and wild tales of criminals roaming the streets looting were told on TV. It was all BS, of course, but new to the area, we did not know….but screw it, I had a gun.

It was the gun I used when I got started in IDPA and it was the gun I took to my first serious three-day handgun class. It had hiccups and got sent to Taurus for totally free repairs after years and thousands of rounds. And although I carry different and lighter guns with me right now, take a wild guess what’s sitting next to me at my desk  doing its faithful duty? The cheap gun I could afford.

A Taurus in hand beats a Sig Sauer in the store’s shelves.

From New Jovian Thunderbolt:

Someone says something to HR because you had the same conversation at work that you’d have in the press room (and sober) of an NRA Annual Meeting and you can be out on your ear.  Unemployment

I would not go as far as being fired, but it will definitely will affect your advancement at work. Remember something: All those people who graduated from mayors Gender Studies or Socialist Flower Arrangement can only find “executive” jobs in the Huma Resources area. Unless otherwise proven, anybody working for any HR department in the US are bleeding heart liberals that fantasize having sex with Bernie and being whipped by Occasional-Cortex.

In one of the jobs I had, I made the mistake of being open about my shooting competitions and other shooting related stuff except anything politics and even the blog went unmentioned. It was eventually used against me when I applied for a supervisor position. I was called to HR to be told I did not get the position and was given to a younger, less time on the job and inexperienced kid and the excuse I was given initially was that I was hot-tempered because a small encounter I had with a company associate violating security procedures.  When I prompted how did they know about it, I was told the person had lodged a grievance when it happened, two months earlier. When I asked why wasn’t I interviewed so I could not only give my side of the story and interview the witness who was there and could confirm my side.  She started babbling stuff that did not make sense about not being one thing but a bunch of little ones and then it escaped her lips: “Your training.”

It took me a bit to process what she meant by it and then it dawned on me she meant my shooting matches. I asked her and she went around the mulberry bush but never denied it. Since the die was already cast and the position filled, I thanked her for her time with exquisite politeness and left HR.  I continued to be very formal and very polite with her every time we crossed paths which made her very nervous but there was nothing she could do. A couple of months later, there was an investigation in her office and she resigned unexpectedly.

Even my boss set me up, or tried. the company building was going to be closed for six months for renovation. Some of the associates were sent to other locations, some were told they would come back and given a six month not-severance package and the rest were just given the severance package plus vacation and sick time and said nothing about coming back. We were essentially dismissed. After the building was empty, some of us were told we were needed for 12 hour fire watch for a period of about 2 weeks while they emptied the place and prepped everything for the renovation.  I got about 5 days including the first and  last. It was a simple thing: you stayed next to the fire panel and just keep an eye on alarms going off. The day before the first night, my boss explained to me what was it about and made the comment “I wouldn’t do this shit unarmed.” and left it like that.

By now I knew it was a set up. If I was fired, I did not get my severance package and his office budget would look better. I also knew I was going to be under a surveillance camera all the time while on duty and I am sure he accessed remotely thinking he would catch me in the act of fondling my gun.  I got confirmation later on by a third-party and he was disappointed I did not bring with me a gun.

Apropos of nothing, let us always remember that when you carry concealed, it  means concealed.

So, after a very long and boring tirade, don’t mention shit at work about your gun proclivities. Exception to be made if you work for the gun industry , of course, otherwise you would be weird and sent to HR with reason.
