Official Parkland Shooting Report To Be Released Today.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Commission is expected to present its final report to state officials Wednesday in Tallahassee.

A 407-page preliminary report released last month cited a breakdown in security procedures and protocol that contributed to the Valentine’s Day mass shooting at the Parkland school.

MSD Public Safety Commission presenting final report to state

I have been reading the draft with some care and formed some opinions which I will keep to myself till I read the final version. I do not expect thunderous changes but just to be sure.

J. Kb. has pointed out some great resources about what happened that day and I am not going to try to even come close to the descriptions made by the Sun Sentinel on what happen that day as they did a great job.

Rick Scott swears in as US Senator tomorrow and Ron DeSantis will be sworn in as Governor on January 8th. In the interim, Lt. Gov. Carlos Lopez-Cantera will likely be in charge of things, but I do not think he will do anything about the report.  If heads will roll, they will probably initiate circular movement sometime the last two weeks of the month or the beginning of February at most as I don’t think DeSantis wants to appear wishy-washy and weak. And let’s face it, collecting the scalp of Scott Israel and the Broward School Board would give him a status of somebody you do not want to f*** with. If he really wants to screw with the Democrats, he should order a full investigation in the inner workings of BSO. I am sure they have not cleaned the house like they said they did after Ken Jenne.

It would be very nice to see a Florida GOPer that actually came with a spine from the factory.

Open Carry: When you keep doing it wrong.

Reader Dave alerted me of this case about a week ago via the Ammoland.com article.  I did looked into it a bit further and I found out it gets worse.

According to a release, a 27-year-old man from Black Earth was openly carrying multiple firearms in the area when 39-year-old Melvin F. Bogus took a handgun from him during a verbal exchange. Bogus then pointed the gun back at the man who aimed another gun back, the report said.

And pry why and how was Mr. Bogus able to get the firearm?

The victim’s friend told police his friend was trying to make a statement about the right to bear arms, and had been on State Street a couple of times practicing open carry, police said. The friend also told police another one of their goals that night was to get phone numbers from women.

Let me get one thing out-of-the-way: You two, stop helping! Trying to score babes’ phone numbers is not how you advance the cause!

Next. Yes, it is your God-given right to carry a gun, but that does not absolve you from exercising a minimum of common sense. Why is it so difficult for some Open Carriers to use a holster with a retention device? Is it an affront to their manhood or what? Do you have a right to have and carry a gun in your personal vehicle? Yes! Is it sensible just to toss it in the back seat in plain sight and leave it there while you go shopping in Whole Foods? Of course not.

Retention holsters are expensive, I know that. But in this case, the medical bills would have been several times larger if the snatcher would have shot the OC gentleman. Get a good retention holster and if possible find a class on weapon retention.

Once again, yes it is our right to carry, but we don’t have to be stupidly unsafe about it.

Gunshine state city commissioner

From the Miami Herald:

Florida politician shoots intruder on the run from cops, police say

Well then…

A Palmetto city commissioner shot a man in self-defense after that man broke into his home after crashing into his neighbor’s house while fleeing from a traffic stop, according to police.

I don’t know this commissioner, but I like him already.

At about 10 p.m. Thursday, Palmetto police officers spotted Vasquez-Perez driving recklessly, thought he was impaired and attempted to pull him over, according to Chief of Police Scott Tyler.

“He was lawfully defending home and family,” Police Chief Scott Tyler said.

I know that police generally treat local politicians with kid gloves, but this seems pretty cut and dry.

Officers attempted to pull over Vasquez-Perez about 10 p.m. Thursday after they spotted him driving recklessly and suspected he was impaired, police said. Vasquez-Perez sped off, crashed into a home in Palmetto and fled the scene with another passenger.

Cops caught the passenger a short time later, but Vasquez-Perez was able to get away and climbed a fence leading to Williams’ backyard.

Williams, armed with a gun, confronted Vasquez-Perez in his garage. The suspect attempted to push past and punch Williams, who then pulled the trigger, striking Vasquez-Perez twice.

Vasquez-Perez was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover from his wounds. He faces charges of resisting arrest without violence, burglary and battery and traffic citations.

“I am glad that everything turned out the way it did. I guess he is doing OK and we are happy and glad that no one in my family was hurt,” Williams said about the incident, according to the Miami Herald.

Williams will not face charges in the incident because he acted in self-defense, police said.

This is why you don’t go breaking into homes in Florida.

Also, maybe someone should convince Mr. Williams to run against one of these anti-gun politicians in the state legislature.  We could used a few more people who really understand the importance of gun rights in the FL legislature.

Last foodie stuff for a while: Calamari in cream sauce.

Holidays are over, but I give you the last of my holiday’s food: Calamari in cream sauce.

The recipe is mom’s I have not seen anybody else do it. Everybody is either the batter and deep fry route or if Spanish, they go Garlic and Oil.

I am gonna give you a secret to help you with this dish: Buy already cleaned squid. Whole squid is annoying to clean and a pain in the ass to have the skin removed. We got a 3 pond box of frozen squid and ended up with probably under 2 pounds after cleaning and a case of rage.  I found the clean squid after I bought the regular one and I cried a little. Here is what’s supposed to look like all clean and purty.

Have a medium onion and half a red bell pepper finely chopped and ready to go.  The same for about 1/3 of a cup of parsley and 3 or 4 big basil leaves.

In a skillet set to medium-high heat, squirt a bit of olive oil. Remember, we are not deep frying here.

Once hot, add the drained calamari carefully.

The obligatory bay leaves (2):

Next is salt, oregano, granulated garlic (we were out of the fresh and the minced, my bad) and don’t forget to stir.

Next come paprika! I’d say for this amount of calamari, two heaping spoons will do nicely. It adds flavor and color to the overall mix.

Mom don’t measure and you know it.

Stir for a couple of minutes making sure all ingredients are evenly distributed.  And the next step is adding the onion and the red bell pepper.

If you notice in the photo above, there is a lot of liquid in the pan. That is the calamari “sweating’  and you will need to drain most of that liquid. Use your pasta strainer and put the calamari back in the pan with another good quirt of olive oil first.

At this time, reduce the temperature to medium or a bit under. Next comes something we all know it is important: Liquid replacement. We start with half a cup if tomato sauce (use the good stuff, no Prego crap) and half a cup of the wine of your choice for cooking (not pictured).

Again, stir all so you have a good mixture. Keep stirring for 2-3 minutes and then comes the green stuff: Parsley and basil.

And yes, stir again (stir intense recipe) till it looks good!

Taste for flavor and texture. Calamari should be or should be approaching consistency close to “al dente” but not quite.  Add salt if needed or any other condiment, but remember that a little will do.  Ste the heat to low, cover the pan and take about a 3-5 minute break.

And now, the finale: add 8 ounces of medium to heavy cream to the pan and yes! Stir again.

Keep stirring for another 3 to 5 minutes. If you don’t stir, you will burn the cream to the bottom of the pan (That is what mom said and I am just re-transmitting the info) Once it is all nice and even, remove from the stove.  You are done.

Serve over plain white rice. You will not need to season the rice other than add salt to it since the rice will absorb the sauce and you will get all the flavor you need. If you do not do rice, eat with a nice artisan bread with a lot of middle and a nice crust.

The real tint is a bit more pinkish because of the paprika, but it does not show well in this photo.

I expect some Texan I know will start thinking if he decides to take this particular challenge and serve this dish at certain get-together.

SNL Alumnus wants political foes dead

And you know, historically there are plenty of examples where her wish of eliminating a contrarian political party has been achieved. They usually involve the standing of a lot of people in front of walls, ditches or at the end of ropes.

I think my New Year Resolution (one of many) will be to buy a box of ammo every time one of these “celebrities” wishes us dead.

UPDATE: As stated in the comments over Facebook.

California to kill business and recue animals at the same time.

I love rescued animals. All but two of our pets in the las two and a half decades have been rescues and all have dies of old age with us.

But who were the dumb California legislators that thought it would be a good idea for pet stores to only sell rescue animals? This has to be some sort of scheme between the Lefties in the Legislature and their PETA buddies to bankrupt pet shops.

Why would anybody pay a couple of hundred bucks for a mutt they can get for a small fee at the local shelter? There is no way California legislators did not see this one coming and bankrupt stores do not place any animals in any home.

Now, if instead they would have come with maybe a tax break for stores that keep, let’s say up to half their animal stock from rescues to be sold at an affordable prices, you would have every pet shop in the state cleaning out the shelters and rescues finding homes. Instead they will introduced to the proper pet killing procedures and be part of a landfill or become ashes.

I know, stop laughing: A tax break for the little businessman in California?
