Another attack on Stand Your Ground and Immunity from Prosecution

If you go to the plain text of the bills, you will see a thing that is worrying: It substitutes  “he or she reasonably believes” with the much higher threshold of  “a reasonably cautious and prudent person in the same circumstances would objectively believe” being “objective” the most worrisome part.  Doing away with the reasonable Person standard and asking that somebody seeking to defend his/her life, a very stressful and very active event, must somehow stop and consider objectively and reflective the actions he should take. Basically ti take time when you have none.

And e have seen where this demand was turned down by the Supreme Court before:

Didn’t we spend the last few years listening to people, usually on the Left, complain – and rightfully so – that football was too dangerous a sport.

Proving that the road to hell is paved with the best of intentions, and the law the unintended consequences never fails to bite you in the ass… as youth groups mandated better helmets for youth football, we learned that the new, better helmets were heavier and little kids didn’t have the neck strength for them and instead of concussions, they were suffering from soft tissue neck injuries.

Youth Football is little more than a lesson to kids that academics dishonesty okay as long as you win games delivered during a head on car accident.

But all of that gets memory holed the second we put girls on the field and make it into a girl power thing.

It’s said that Liberalism is a mental illness.  Now that fewer girls are identifying as feminists, this is the great feminist plan.  Increase the number of feminists by increasing the number of girls with blunt force brain damage.

I’d love to have some sort of official data on ammunition.

President Barack Obama loved to say the his policies were “on the right side of history” while those of his opposition were “on the wrong side of history.”

This is horseshit.

The idea of a right or wrong side of history supposes that some time in the indefinite future historians will have an accurate knowledge of history and an objective metric of its moral value.

Clearly this idea is horseshit.

There is a saying that is much more accurate than Obama’s, “history is written by the victors.”

Miguel’s post on Saturday got me thinking.

The history of socialism in the 20th Century is absolutely clear as to its effects.

The Soviet Union deliberately starved to death 6 million Ukrainians in the Holodomor and incidentally starved to death another 10 million Russian citizens as a result of dekulakization and the collectivization of farms.  Several more million Russians were executed or worked to death in Gulags or on building projects in Siberia.  By the end, the Soviet Union had a death toll of 25 million people, 20 million alone under Stalin.

Nazi Germany systematically exterminated 11 million civilians in the name of National Socialism.

Those paled in comparison to the 50 million who died under Mao’s Great Leap Forward.

Let us not forget about the 2 million who died under Pol Pot, roughly half of starvation, the other half worked to death or shot in the killing fields growing rice for the Cambodian army.

All in all, the death toll of socialism in the 20th Century is 100 million people.

In the 21st Century, the socialist experiment is off to a bad start, with socialism causing the collapse and mass starvation of Venezuela.

Never the less, we in the United States have several members of Congress who are socialists, advocating for socialist policies, and are or have been members of socialist activist groups.  A recent Gallup poll shows that 57% of Democrats view socialism favorably.

So where are all these socialists coming from?

College.

Most or perhaps least shocking thing about a bunch of trans activists defending gulags as “compassionate places of rehabilitation” is that the group was associated with Goldsmiths University.  Clearly Goldsmiths University failed to teach these people about history.

The victory of socialism was not in creating a utopia on earth, it was in dominating academia.

When professors and teachers teach only the evils of capitalism and freedom and only the good of socialism, young people come out willing and wanting to try the failed experiment of socialism again and again.

Those who fail to learn history are doomed to repeat it.

Those who are taught factually wrong history are encouraged to repeat the evils of history.

This may be the most glaring example but it is by far not the only one.

Two-thirds of Millennials have not idea what Auschwitz was,  22% have never heard of the Holocaust, and 40% of them had no idea how many Jews were killed.

If you go to many college campuses these days, they have a week long Antisemitic extravaganza called Israel Apartheid Week, sponsored by the BDS campaign to teach college kids Jew hating, pro-Palestinian propaganda.  Israel is shown to be an oppressive, racist state full of white European Jewish colonists oppressing poor, brown Muslims.  This is the same Antisemitic trope of the Jewish Interloper that Hitler used, just turned around, i.e., Hitler said the Jews were interlopers in Europe, BDS says Jews are interlopers from Europe.

In addition, wherein historical Antisemitism persecuted Jews for not being white, Social Justice attacks Jews for being too white.

It isn’t just Jews who are suffering from the Leftist attack on history.

Social Justice has turned the term White Privilege into a weapon.  No better example of this at it’s zenith was the Covington Catholic School imbroglio.

A few seconds of video went viral, and the media, celebrities, social activists all declared guilt and innocence, morality and immorality based on skin color.  Once the truth was revealed, almost all of these people doubled down, explaining how they may have gotten the specifics wrong this time, but everything they said about white males and white privilege was accurate in the larger context.

This is not unique to the United States.

In South Africa a white farmer is killed every five days.  The South African government denies that there is the targeting of white people for murder, even as it uses racial language to seize land from white farmers without compensation.

Australia had offered refugee status to these white farmers until Leftist groups stopped that.  Sweden is denying asylum claims to white South Africans who moved there and are trying to deport them.

All of this in the name of Apartheid.  Specifically, because of Apartheid white South African land owners must pay a price in blood while the Progressive world turns a blind eye to their suffering.  This includes the children of white South Africans who were born after Apartheid ended, 25 years ago.

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortex said something that most Conservatives said was a stupid gaff.

“I think that there’s a lot of people more concerned about being precisely, factually and semantically correct than about being morally right.”

That is not a gaff, that is the goal of what they are doing.

They believe that they are morally right.  They will deliberately spread lies, falsify facts, misrepresent actual events, rewrite history, and turn education into indoctrination to make sure that they are recorded as being morally right.

If the Jews are exterminated by the Muslims, as is the wont of Islam and Leftists, they will make sure that history records that the Jews deserved to be exterminated because of their crimes against humanity and what the Muslims did was justifiable and beyond reproach.

If the whites of South Africa are all murdered in their homes, they will make sure history records only the atrocities of Apartheid and that the white South Africans, generations later deserved it.

They will do everything in their power to make sure that the millions upon millions of people killed or reduced to subjugation and grinding poverty will either be forgotten or their suffering justified.

The history books will be written to make sure that the Left was not just victorious but also has the moral high horse.

We are seeing the start of that today.

This is why we cannot let them win.  There is no justice to be sought in the history books.  There is no moral victory in which we die but are remembered as noble victims to Leftist atrocities.

We will be dead and gone and remembered only as a vanquished evil on the wrong side if history, who stood in the way of their Utopian vision, if remembered at all.

Survival at all costs, because even if our victory is a moral one, if we lose, it will not be remembered that way.

Just have the new clown Guaido say the following to China and Russia.

“The new government will honor the debts that Venezuela has currently with its debtors.”

Maduro’s head will be used to play soccer in front of the Presidential palace in less than 12 hours after they sign the agreement.

It does suggest that a penurious armed force with no access to weapons is the problem. Apparently, not even the soldiers are trusted with guns by the dictatorship. The Maduro regime is starting to arm gangs as a means of checking the military. They trust gangs and thugs, but not responsible military men with guns, and seem to have disarmed them.

There is this dysfunctional process in which we tend to think of things being similar in foreign countries as it is here.  Nothing farther from reality. Same as with Iraqis during Desert Storm, the bulk of the Venezuelan Army is composed by young me with a less than basic training, given a uniform and told they are going to defend the country. They are officially cannon fodder and probably one 3 Gun sanctioned match could easily beat the lights out of a regular Venezuelan battalion.  The Pre-Chavez armed forces were not that good to begin with. The last war in which the Army was involved ended in 1863 and pretty much became a parade force or a coup d’état force. (Some special forces were the exception till disbanded in the early 80s)

And if you have been following this blog for any amount of time, you know the arming of gangs is not a new thing but many years old.  They have been doing whatever the want and as predicted, a lot of them are no longer paying attention to the Central government and specially Maduro since their allegiances were to Chavez.

There are Cuban trained and led military and police who are well fed and prepared to do what’s needed to maintain power. Those are the ones that everyone fear in Venezuela, but then again Cuba has not had a great record military-wise

I cannot say who has the guns or who’s going to get the troops the guns they need to defect and join the democrats.  But what this does show is that guns are important.  The soldiers are clearly afraid to defect because they don’t have arms.

It was never a question of guns. You can always get guns. The criminal element has guns via black market or other means. The question has been of killing the government thugs in or out of uniform, or better explained, the lack of testicular fortitude by the average Venezuelan.

A cursory search will give you the amount of civilians killed in the protests against the government through the years. Do you know what number is impossible to find and not because of censorship? The number of police and armed force personnel killed by the citizens who seek freedom (allegedly). Oh, you will find stories about cops, National Guardsmen and Army soldiers killed by the criminals in order to obtain their weapons, ammo and even grenades. And who knows how many rifles and other materiel has found itself going to the same criminals via bribery or plain robbery, this is a traditional thing down there that a simple regime change to Socialism did not cure.

So weapons are not the problem. Anybody can start with an ice pick and a distracted cop in a dark alley and build after that. The problem is that Venezuelans simply do not want to bloody their hands and do what’s necessary out of plain cowardice. They will chant the appropriate Peace and Love kumbayas and claim violence does not solve a thing, but they get tingles up their collective legs if somebody tweets that President Trump is about to send the Marines to take out Maduro.  They will be “brave” as long as there is somebody doing the violence, otherwise they will mumble slogans and cry for the EU, UN and OAS to do the something they are no willing to do.
