Yesterday I wrote a post about C&C Coffee and Kitchen’s being open and busy on mother’s day, and how that begot the ire of Lefties and politicians.
It seems that the powers that be had to exert their authority over this rogue business serving breakfast to moms.
Castle Rock Restaurant That Opened Dining Room Now Shut Down For At Least 30 Days
Did you catch that?
The state is “suspending their license until further notice.”
From the article:
The health department said the restaurant will remain closed until they determine the establishment is in compliance with the public health order.
On Monday, Gov. Jared Polis said it would be closed for at least 30 days. Polis said the restaurant caused an immediate health hazard — and he was “extremely disappointed.”
“I joined most Coloradans in in our frustration watching videos of people illegally packed into restaurants and thinking about all the moms and grandmothers and aunts and everyone who was put at increased risk of dying from this horrible virus,” Polis stated.
Polis said the best way to limit the disruption to the economy is to obey the health others.
“When people see videos of people packed into a restaurant, with no social distancing and no masks, people feel less safe, and the widespread economic pain will only be prolonged,” he stated.
He added businesses that decide to violate public health orders will ultimately delay re-opening for the businesses that are following public health orders.
The governor of the state went on TV and chastized the owners of a restaurant in a town of 64,000 people. Then the state shut down their business indefinitely.
This is such a heavy-handed and officious reaction.
“It is disheartening that this restaurant has chosen to move ahead of the public orders and not even consider implementing best practices to prevent the spread of COVID-19. It is not fair to the rest of the community and other business owners that are following Safer at Home and doing their part. We sincerely hope that C&C will choose to cooperate with the rules under which they are allowed to operate so we can lift this closure order,” said John M. Douglas, Jr., MD, Executive Director of Tri-County Health Department.
See, the problem is that these business owners didn’t pay enough deference to some bureaucrats.
I guess the business owners should be grateful that they were not killed in a SWAT raid at the governor’s order, because when the state wants to make an example out of you, they really make an example out of you.
What is interesting is the result of the mother’s day opening shows that people are ready to return to normal. They are champing at the bit for it.
The act of indefinitely suspending the owners’ business license really makes you wonder how much of this is about stopping the spread of COVID and how much of this is about control because the only reason to suspend it indefinitely is punitive.
Politicians really are doing their best Officer Cartman impression right now.
It’s getting harder and harder to separate the pandemic control from the politics.
In the article I drew this post from, this is a selection of the comments:
This has nothing to do with safety. This has everything to do with hating the people that want to go back to work and no hide under their beds, glued to a 24-hour terror-porn news cycle.
We have the same thing going on here in Maine. A restaurant opened, the kind tolerant wonderful democrat governor pulled their License. He reopened anyway and is packed every day. This is really getting maddening beyond frustrating. Wake up America. People packing in a place is a good indication of what real people think about the “deadly virus”. Bleep bleepin bleep your virus
I wonder what would happen if enough small business owners start wondering why they *need* a business license…
For most businesses* a license is protection money that you pay to the state to keep them from SWATting your ass for making an honest buck.
*I make exceptions for doctors, dentists, engineering firms, places where being unqualified and practicing poorly can kill people. Not just anyone should be able to open a clinic. My standards are lower for making cupcakes and cutting hair.

I totally agree. Perhaps one of the ways to respond to this overreach is for people to give the Hawaiian Good Luck sign to the various govt’s by many people opening curbside restaurants WITHOUT a permission slip from the govt. It’s along the same line as open carry to protest un-Constitutional laws; If you do it alone the govt can and will slap you down and make an example of you to the others that may have thoughts about rebelling. But if it is done ‘in-mass’ then it becomes harder for them to stomp their boots on a thousand necks, especially if those thousand have the means to stomp back. There is power in numbers.

deferencebaksheesh to some bureaucrats.Fixed it.
Happening everywhere.
The honorable and esteemed Mayor of my city is not following the State roadmap to re-opening. because we are “different” than most of the State. (We have a lefty Mayor)
When asked about the people who disagree with him delaying the city behind the State as a whole, he said most of those complaints come with a “political asterisk.” Apparently, in this jackass’ mind, he is so brilliant, so caring, so perfect that disagreement with him must be politically based.
F*** him and the rest of the tin pot dictator ilk.
Well, the gov is about to get his “order” closing the restaurant for 30 days jammed up his ass. A business license conveys a right of ownership and cannot be removed without “cause”. And if a license is revoked, once the “cause” is remediated the business gets to open again. Now if the rules changed and now other cafes are open and this one is shut down for a baseless, discriminatory retribution, here come the lawyers. Cuz that is a violation of the CIVIL RIGHTS and remedy is available in federal court.
