Trudeau announces ban on 1,500 types of ‘assault-style’ firearms — effective immediately
Starting today, licensed gun owners will no longer be allowed to sell, transport, import or use these sorts of weapons in this country.
“As of today, the market for assault weapons in Canada is closed,” Public Safety Minister Bill Blair said. “Enough is enough. Banning these firearms will save Canadian lives.”
Trudeau said there will be a two-year amnesty period to allow people who already own these firearms to comply with the ban. Trudeau promised to pass legislation in the coming months to provide “fair compensation” to people who own these firearms.
While he acknowledged that most firearms owners are law-abiding citizens, he said hunters don’t need this sort of firepower.
To get a semi-automatic center fire rifle in Canada is hard. They are already classified as restricted firearms which require a special license and registration.
Canada has had very few mass shootings and we’re not even sure what kind of firearm was used in the last one since the shooter was dressed at an RCMP officer, which leads me to suspect it was a handgun.
The Prime Minister all but admits that this will not do a damned thing to reduce the almost non existent number of mass shootings in Canada. This is being done simply for control.
Sorry Canadian gun owners who jumped through every hoop to get a restricted firearm legally, you’re fucked now.
Maybe when your Woke Bae manchild Prime Minister destroys your country under the rule of “go woke, go broke,” President Trump will offer to make you our 51st state and your gun rights will be restored courtesy of the Second Amendment.
Sure. The Canadian government will graciously allow you to “sell” your rifles “back” to the government that didn’t sell it in the first place. At a tiny fraction of it’s actual value. And I seriously doubt that they’ll refund any of whatever license or processing fees that they mandated you to pay to acquire your firearm.
Also, why is there no talk of punishing the RCMP? They’re just as guilty for this evil man’s shooting rampage as every Canadian gun owner.
