COLUMBUS (Dawn Faugl) — A mother and her 13-year-old son were at the corner store in their neighborhood when police say two men approached them and opened fire, shooting her son in both feet. That’s when the mom pulled out her licensed gun and shot back.
The mom, who doesn’t want to be identified, said she immediately recognized one of the suspects Kevin Hayden, when he walked up to Wilson Market Sunday. She says Hayden and his friends have been harassing her for years, after breaking into her home.
She says she was so concerned, she went and got a conceal carry license this fall.
The mom says she unloaded her gun, as Hayden and his friend ran away, still firing back. Hayden is now being held on $250,000 bond. Police say charges are pending for the other man involved.
The 13-year-old is out of the hospital, but still recovering from his wounds.

Because a gun will always beat a slogan and a cardboard sign.
She won’t be on Shannon Watts’ Christmas Card list, that is for sure.
“She won’t be on Shannon Watts’ Christmas Card list, that is for sure.”
I feel pretty bad for the lady. Now she’s out a whole magazine of ammo. There’s a million dollar idea. Crowd source getting defensive gun users a box of ammo so they don’t run short.
Yeah, she’s out a whole magazine, but worse, she didn’t score a hit What a waste
While I’m happy she was able to defend her kid and herself, I’ve got to wonder, Why the hell were they shooting at the kids feet?! It would have been nice if her shots had killed the sob that did it.
Old movies? Making him dance?
Yeah, that thought entered my mind as well. The old westerns with the lets make him dance routine or the movie Harlem Shuffle where Eddie Murphy shoots off Della Reese’s pinky toe.
Either way it just got to me… I mean killing someone is bad enough, but deliberately trying to cripple someone deserves a whole new level of punishment. This one bugged me more than it should have and I don’t know why. I mean the kid lived and the mom got the shooter and that’s a good thing, but this one still got to me for some reason.
c’est la guerre
Mom’s intentions were good but she needs to spend a bit more time at the range. Hayden and his friends should no loner be able to turn oxygen into CO2.
[…] You stop shooting her son, by shooting back at them. […]
