I hate being right

I questioned if one of the reasons the whole Justine Damond shooting was a cluster-fuck, that has already taken out the Chief of Police and might cost the mayor her reelection, was that Noor was an affirmative action hire rushed out to mollify a favored Liberal demographic.

The answer is yes.

Noor was put through an accelerated course for recruits that already have a college degree.  That alone is disconcerting, but Noor was rushed through even faster than normal in only seven months.  Sure, Noor has a college degree, but it was in business management and he ran a hotel before becoming a cop.

I could see this being useful for someone with a background in criminology, law, or some related field.  Business management hardly seems like a useful prerequisite for a patrol officer.

The program is not without its critics.

James Densley, a university professor in criminal justice, told the Star Tribune he believes the training scheme is satisfactory but flawed.

‘The cadet program is rigorous, no doubt, but it is also an immersive paramilitary experience, taught by practitioner faculty without advanced degrees, and I suspect it leaves students with a limited view of the profession,’ Mr Densley said.

So Minneapolis police took a hotel manager, gave him a crash course in paramilitary training, and sent him out armed into the city where he screws up and kills a woman.

Good job Libs, your tolerance for low standards and expectations has cost a woman her life.

1 + 1 = Welfare

Bernie Sanders ran, in part, on a platform of free college tuition for those in the bottom 90% of the economy – those who make less than $125,000/year.

He lost, that that policy has been picked up by New York, is gaining ground in California, and will be a cornerstone of Elizabeth Warren’s campaign if she runs.

Well, to make things more “fair” one academic has decided that college admission standards should be dropped in favor of a lottery system.  Admission standards are racist, apparently.  A student’s ability – or lack there of – to read or do math coming out of high school should not keep them from obtaining the privilege of a top tier diploma.  Students shouldn’t be tested, just selected at random.

This however will still not achieve fairness.  Students who can’t perform because they lack the adequate background from high school will fail to matriculate.  That is racist.  Schools can always work around the English language and justify anything.  Math is more firm.  So… math is racist and must be dropped.

Who but those  STEM majors really need to know how to “solve for X?”  It’s not like that will help you decide how much money to put away in your IRA or for a house if you want to plan for the future.  It’s not like algebra is a fundamental part of deductive reasoning.  It’s racist and has to go.

The end result is that, anybody can get into whatever school they want, if they are lucky, but won’t learn a damn thing while they are there.

These people are going full Socialism with college education, it’s free for the masses but isn’t worth the price.

Feeling Creative

Faithful readers know of my hatred for modern art.

However, there is an old saying “a fool and his money are soon parted,” and progressives are nothing if not fools.

I have an idea to engage in a Sokal Affair-esque idea to make money off fools.

I am tempted to buy prints and statues of famous classical works, e.g., David, The Creation of Adam, The Birth of Venus, and attach to them fake rubber boobs and big, black… anatomically correct marital aids.

Then, claim that “I am making a statement against the Eurocentric, cis-normative, hetero-normative, patriarchal, white supremacism of ‘classical’ art, by making these iconic pieces, trans-racial and trans-gendered.”

I’m sure I could get a solid five or six figures of the collection in the right venue.

Yes, I will feel bad, but I will spend the money on a new big block V8 pickup and guns, to balance out my karma.

Design Philosophy

I am not a fan of Alex Jones and InfoWars is a joke, so it is hard for me to admit that I watched two videos by Paul Joseph Watson from my YouTube recommended videos that I actually liked.

The first was about why modern art sucks, and the second is about why modern architecture sucks.

These videos make very good and well researched points similar to the content of a Vice article I’ve posted before: I’m Sick Of Pretending: I Don’t “Get” Art.

There is real evidence that modern or post-modern architecture actually destroys cities.  They take away from our ability to define a place as something unique.  There are no less than two TED talks about the terribleness of modern architecturea and why people hate it.

It comes down to two issues.  First: the philosophy of post-modernism rejected the idea of absolute truths, and in doing so rejected the idea that beauty was something objective.  The avant garde of post-modern architecture rushed to make buildings as ugly as possible to show off their post-modernist cred.  It was a style called brutalism.

The other comes down to the idea summed up in the quote from the “father of modern architecture” Louis Sullivan: “form follows function.”

I’m a gun guy.

I am a 1911 guy.

I love the works of John Moses Browning (peace be upon him).

I have some other guns that I truly love, my S&W Model 41 (from 1974), my Model 52, my Colt Woodsman target, even my Beretta 92.  Each is unique in  their own way.

I got to handle the new Beretta APX the other day.

Here is what I have to say.  Fuck Gaston Glock.  He is the Louis Sullivan of guns.

That brutalist aesthetic has infected the gun world.  How else did a 500 year old company go from something so iconic in it’s silhouette like this:

To this:

Because Berreta got infected with post modernist Glockism.

Everybody has.

Glock

A Springfield Armory Glock or a Spock

A Sig Glock or a Slock

A Smith and Wesson Glcok or a Smock.

A Ruger Glcok or a Ruock

A Remington Glock or a Rock.

I have been brutalized by post modernist Glockism.

I don’t care that it only holds eight rounds.  Manual safeties do not scare me.  I find there to be few more beautiful pistols than the 1911A1 and the P35 High Power.

How can the plastic block compare to the elegance of this:

Art in steel and wood, with real checkering instead of random stippling.

I reject post-modern Glockism.  Sure they function, but life is more than just about function.  It is about beauty and style and being unique.

It is making an impression on the world and not just being a simulacrum of something else.

I call for a return to elegance in the gun world before gun counters become like modern cities, where everything new is devoid of soul in a bleak landscape of black and FDE plastic.

Post apocalyptic advice

I’m still making my way through The Mist.

Faithful readers would know that I made a valiant attempt at Fear the Walking Dead.

I am noticing a new trope emerge in these shows.  Call them the Noble Junkie.  It is similar to the Erudite Stoner but not a pot smoking hippy throwback.  The character is addicted to something hard like opiates or meth.  They are having some sort of existential crisis and their “hit rock bottom” addiction gives them some sort of spiritual clarity.

In Fear the Walking Dead, Nick the Junkie somehow ends up being a super survivor because he is a junkie.

In The Mist, the Junkie girl is a street wise, get-er-done sort, not held back by middle class social mores.

I don’t from which Hollywood sphincter this character came from, but it needs to go back there quick.

Being a rock-bottom junkie isn’t doesn’t give a person nihilistic superpowers to handle an apocalypse.

The problem is, that being a Junkie, as soon as the craving hits, they will undermine the survival of the whole group to get their next fix.

What I have learned from these pose apocalyptic TV shows is this: if you have a junkie in your group, just take them aside and shoot them in the first 5 minutes.  The strife they bring you is not worth the gritty emotional insight they bring to the situation.

One to watch in the Twin Cities

On Saturday Night, Justine Damond, was shot and killed by a Minneapolis police officer who were responding to a 911 call.

Here are the details I managed to gather from the early reports.

  • Ms. Damond had approached the driver’s side door of the police car.
  • She was shot through the door of the car.
  • The officer that shot her was in the passenger seat of the car.

This struck me as odd.  The officer that shot had to have shot past his partner, right over his lap.  That’s not an easy angle to pull off.

The second report I read of the indecent shows I was right.

He is believed to have been sitting in the passenger seat of a police car when he shot across his partner killing Ms Damond, local media has reported.

This reinforced my belief that this was an accidental discharge.   The officer either was getting his gun out or was trying to re-holster it when he fired.

But then more details emerged.  The officer’s body cameras were not on.

The officer who shot was “inexperienced” with two years under his belt.

The inexperienced officer joined the Minneapolis Police Department a little over two yeas ago.

Lastly, and here is where things turn ugly.  The officer who shot was named Mohamed Noor and was publicly celebrated for being one of nine Somali-American police officers in Minneapolis.  This is the largest Somali community in America.

Minneapolis is also one of the most Liberal cities in America (ranked No. 6).

Here is what I believe.  Noor was a massively unqualified affirmative action hire.  Someone felt that the MPD needed some more Somali officers for public relations.

His lack of qualifications is evident in that fact that he was called “inexperienced” with two years of service.  He was also riding with another officer.  I don’t know how the MPD works, but you rarely see two officers in a patrol car together outside of training.

I believe that the body cams were off because the officers didn’t want to capture on video just how much of a walking fuck-up the mayor’s celebrated  “golden boy” was in real life.  Noor jumped the gun, literally, almost shot his partner, and killed woman because he never should have had a gun in the first place.

Maybe I am wrong, and a bit prejudiced.  There are just too many coincidences here for me.

I have a feeling as this story gains more national attention, reports are going to come out from anonymous officers as to just how bad Noor was and how his passage through the police academy and field training was the result of PC politics and not any level of competency.

Or I could be wrong.

Here’s your sign

Back in June, reporter Gretchen Rachel Hammond broke the news that the Chicago Dyke March had kicked out a number of Jewish lesbians for displaying the Star of David.  Their excuse was that it was triggering to some people and the dyke march stood for a free Palestine, and they weren’t antisemitic, just anti-Zionist.

In the real world, we call that “new antisemitism.”

The story get so much worse from there.

The award winning journalist got fired shortly after her report on the Dyke March.

It came out today that the organizers of the Dyke March pushed for her firing.

This was the official response from the Dyke March.

I was taught to never hit a woman.

I was also taught to shoot just in case “they” ever came for us [Jews] again.

I’m going to have to figure out where proudly antisemitic lesbians fit into that paradox.

In the mean time, might I suggest a new logo for the Dyke March.  I think this is more fitting.
