A shark too far

Like I said in my last post, on Monday, November 28th, OSU student Abdul Razak rammed his car into a group of people and then started stabbing them, wounding 11, before he was killed by Ohio State Police.

Since then, there has been a call for concealed carry on Ohio public college campuses.  Students want the right to defend themselves, especially given OSU’s recent history of having students join ISIS.

The atrocious anti-gun group Cocks Not Glocks is entering the fray by calling for people to show up at the site of a recent terrorist attack and wave fake rubber dicks around.

cng-sjw-5

A hearts and minds winning strategy, if I ever saw one.  Of course, being a social justice group, they have to play that they are the victims.

cng-sjw-4

The big, bad gun rights people are going to demand their right to self defense after this terrorist attack.

Have they no shame?  Everybody knows that anti-gun groups have the exclusive right to dance in the blood of victims, calling for disarmament, even when it makes no sense.  How dare gun rights activists rain on their parade.

Gun rights activist: “We were quiet right afterwards, but a week after a terrorist attack on our campus, we’re asking for the right to be able to defend ourselves if this happens again.”

Cocks Not Glocks: “You horrible people, here’s a big rubber penis to prove how wrong and insensitive you are.”

in pursuit of bringing you, my readers, with the very best (worst) in anti-gun idiocy to mock, I followed these Tweets down the Cocks Not Glocks rabbit hole.  Their Facebook page was even worse since the last time I laid eyes on it.

They have expanded from being merely anti-gun and into full blown hateful social justice in all the worse ways.

cng-sjw-1

Nothing like some good old fashioned racism.  Forget healing in the wake of Trump’s election.  Just some full blown “white men are responsible for all the bad things ever” social justice.

cng-sjw-2

The link in that post is dead, instead the site tells you to go here.  You can read through it if you wish, but in a nutshell, it says that if you want to be a good white person, you have to give money, free housing, jobs, etc. to black/People of Color activists then go sit at the back of the bus and wait for orders.  See, since white people are the worst, the only way to them to be free of the original sin of being white is to prostrate themselves to non-white people and buy forgiveness.  If a white person thinks that simply by not being a racist and living a normal life, they are not terrible, they are wrong.  White silence is violence.  White people need to find the nearest #BlackLivesMatter chapter to buy their planetary indulgence so they can achieve social justice.

Lastly, I saw this post, then had to lie down and ease my blood pressure.

cng-sjw-3

At face value, so what.  Except that the article in The Daily Texan is full of misinformation.  It claims that Israel is trying to ban Mosques from performing the call to prayer.  It is not, is it considering banning the use of loud speakers for the call.  That the Jews still can’t pray at the site of our holy temple and can only stand outside the Western Wall because the Muslims won’t let Jews enter the Al-Aqsa Mosque, but the Jews are evil because they don’t like the use of loud speakers for the call to prayer interrupting the Jewish Sabbath is a point that enrages me to a level that should make the world glad that I don’t have access to nuclear launch codes.

The lie about the ban on the call to prayer in The Daily Texan is a deliberate demonization of Israel.  That’s what social justice warriors do.  Social justice is overwhelmingly anti-Semitic.  Campus safe spaces are the new country clubs, No Jews Allowed.  SJW’s of course claim to fight against Antisemitism, as long as the Jews are good victims.  As soon as we start fighting back, the progressive Left turns on us with a vengeance.  Forgive me that I don’t want to live in a ghetto.  Yes, I am accusing them of tacit support of Antisemitism.

So according to Cocks Not Glocks as an armed, Jewish, white male, I am just about the worst person on earth and should be put on a registry and forced to give everything I have from my unearned white privilege to people of color, or else I am a racist.  And if I happened to be run over or stabbed by a racial Muslim student who happened to join ISIS, it’s all my fault because some Israelis want to sleep in on their day of rest.

Just when you thought these people couldn’t get any worse, they level up and surprise you.

Dumb at OSU

Abdul Razak was a student an OSU.  On Monday, he took it upon himself to ram a group of people with a car, then start stabbing them with a kitchen knife.  For his efforts, we wounded 11 OSU students and faculty, and before he was shot by Ohio State  Police.

Razak made his motivations crystal clear.

The Ohio State University student who carried out a knife attack on campus Monday said in a Facebook post he was “sick and tired” of seeing fellow Muslims “killed and tortured,” according to federal law enforcement officials.  In a Facebook post shortly before the Monday morning rampage, the Somali immigrant urged America “to stop interfering with other countries, especially the Muslim Ummah,” a term for Muslim people at large.  “By Allah, we will not let you sleep unless you give peace to the Muslims. You will not celebrate or enjoy any holiday.”

ISIS has been using social media to urge Muslims to attack the west with cars and knives.  The main focus by ISIS has been on Muslim migrants in Europe.  Cars and knives are easily obtainable and quite effective weapons, as the 89 people killed in Nice, France demonstrated.

ISIS “appears to have a preference for attacking soft targets as a means to instil maximum fear in the general public”, the report added.

ISIS didn’t invent this style of terrorist attack.  It was the Palestinians who first used the “ram a group of people with a car and then stab the wounded” technique against Israelis.  It started in 2015 and has continues to this day.  There is even a name for this, the Knife Intifada.

The impetus for this style of attack is obvious.  Israel had been very effective in shutting down the tunnels and smuggling routes that allowed Palestinians to bring in guns and explosives from Syria and Lebanon.  The rate of “traditional” terrorist attacks, like suicide bombings of buses and markets has dropped dramatically.  The Palestinians needed a way to kill Israelis that didn’t attract the attention of Israeli counter terrorism units.  Cars and knives was it.  Any Palestinian with a driver’s licence or a set of steak knives could be a potential terrorist.  Israeli couldn’t stop everybody.

Spreading this tactic into Europe was easy.  Guns and explosives are even harder to get in Europe so cars and knives are easily obtained improvised weapons.  Israeli has been warning Europe about this for a while.

Now it has spread to the US.  Even where guns are easier to get than Europe, it is an attractive style of attack because it makes it possible for radicals on student visas or who are not legal alien residents (green card holders) to get weapons – you have to be a citizen or legal alien resident to pass a 4473.

Besides, there hasn’t been on liberal who has chanted “no fly, no buy” that has thought about banning people on the no fly list from buying cars or kitchen utensils.

The threat of more and more car and knife attacks in the US is a real concern.  Especially as ISIS claimed responsibility for the OSU attack, it can motivate other borderline Muslims to become famous martyrs.

So how did OSU respond, and why did Moms Demand Action spread the message?  Because of this idiocy.

osu-dumb

He didn’t have a gun.  Never mind the potential for more of this type of attack.  Never mind that Razak was not the first Muslim from Columbus, Ohio, or even the first OSU student to join the ranks of ISIS.  He didn’t use a gun, so nothing to see here.

This attitude is apparently shared by a lot of MDA followers.

osu-dumb-2

So how did Israel deal with these types of attacks?  Israelis went out and bought gun stores empty of handguns and started carrying them.  Some Palestinian runs into a bus stop, hops out and starts stabbing people, and some Israeli with a handgun ends that attack in a matter of seconds.

Of course, that’s not an option.  Ohio doesn’t have campus carry.

Instead, we’re just going to have to be thankful that this ISIS fighter didn’t have a gun – even though ISIS never told him to go get one.

Tax Thought of the Day

There has been a lot of hand wringing over Trump’s deal with Carrier to save jobs in Indiana.  I’ve been thinking about tax policy.

Here’s my half baked idea.

  1. I like the idea of lowering (if not getting rid of entirely) the corporate income tax.  Big companies can afford to hire lawyers and accountants to offshore business or invert their business to avoid income tax while other companies can’t.  This places the tax burden on small and medium sized companies.  Ditch the corporate income tax to level the playing field.
  2.  Audit big companies to determine how many foreign workers they have (including in subsidiaries) and charge them personal income tax and payroll tax for their overseas work force.  E.g. If GM has 1,000 people in Mexico making cars, GM pays no corporate income tax, but has to pay the payroll tax and personal income tax burden for the 1,000 Mexican workers as an equivalent rate to what it would pay US workers in the same positions.  If GM moved those jobs back to the US, then the US workers pay the income tax and GM doesn’t have to.

HRC the Movie

Some time ago I wrote a post about a movie called Miss Sloane.  What brings it to mind is that I saw the first trailer on TV a couple of days ago.

This is it:

Compare that to the first trailer I saw some months ago:

Notice a difference?

They took the entire “going after the gun industry plot” out of the trailer.

MY HOW THE WINDS OF CHANGE BLOW!!!

The first trailer was launched in September.  The second trailer was launched the day after Trump won the election.  Maybe this is a coincidence, but a part of me doesn’t think so.  Especially since I have only seen the second trailer on TV.

The full trailer gives a lot of the plot of the movie.  Professionally successful lobbyist with no work/life balance tries to destroy the gun lobby/gun industry because she suddenly comes down with a case of conscience.

A review by the NY Times  describes the character of Miss Sloane as “chilly.”  That is an understatement.

With her heavily applied crimson lipstick, copper hair and pallid complexion, Elizabeth is beautiful but scary. She’s just one step away from a bloodless cousin of Morticia Addams.

She’s scary.

Elizabeth is shown testifying before a Senate subcommittee. Questioned about breaking ethical rules by arranging a trip for a senator to Indonesia to research the feasibility of a tariff on palm oil, she repeatedly invokes the Fifth Amendment.

She’s corrupt and is engaged in the personal enrichment of politicians for political favors.

We learn early in the film that Elizabeth lives on little sleep and relies on a roller coaster regimen of uppers and downers. Outside of work, she has no personal life. Her needs for intimacy are met by studly male escorts, one of whom, Forde (Jake Lacy), becomes a regular.

She abuses prescription drugs, is totally loveless, and her personal relationships are non existent.

When under siege, she doesn’t disguise her arrogance and contempt, and she bullies underlings.

She’s a bully.

Elizabeth demurs. Having changed her views on gun ownership “somewhere between Columbine and Charleston,” she now supports background checks for gun buyers.

A cold, corrupt, loveless woman, with terrible personal relationship abilities, who abuses underlings when she gets mad, and decides to push for  universal background checks after a politically convenient mass shooting.  She’s Hillary Clinton, but Hollywood pretty.  She’s a cross between Hillary Clinton and Patrick Bateman.

No wonder a different NY Times review says “Jessica Chastain’s ‘Miss Sloane’ Echoes Campaign Rhetoric.”

The filmmakers acknowledge that their project plays very differently than it would have had Hillary Clinton defeated Mr. Trump. But they say they can’t control how “Miss Sloane” will be perceived by filmgoers and critics in light of the election outcome.

No shit.  Miss Sloane was supposed to be a Hollywood victory lap.  Then Trump won.  There was no Clinton victory to take a lap for.  Now this studio is stuck with this movie on their hands and they know the truth about it.  A movie about a cold, manipulative, humorless woman taking down the gun industry?  That’s just a Hillary Clinton presidency fan fiction biopic.  In the 2,623 counties of Trump voting Middle America, that will rank in theater popularity somewhere between Justin Trudeau’s History of the Thrid Reich and The Love and Romance of Anthony Weiner.

Now the new trailer makes sense.  They have to downplay the push for gun control because Trump voting Middle America won’t see it.  They have to try and sell it as a political thriller and not a celebrity reenactment of a Hillary rally.

A two-hour-plus drama about a divisive issue represents a gamble in the superhero-driven marketplace, and the odds against “Miss Sloane” may have increased since Mr. Trump’s victory.

That’s what I just said.  They have to lie about the plot to trick Trump voters to go an see it to fluff the opening weekend box office.

This movie is a Hoover filled with TNT, it’s going to suck and bomb at the same time.

Despite this, or maybe because of it, it will probably win an Oscar.  If there is one thing Hollywood is good at it is blowing itself and celebrating just how wonderful it is no matter how the public votes with their dollars.

Partly because “Miss Sloane” is more a character study than a coherent political drama, it fumbles the issue it purports to address, and it eventually runs aground in a preposterous ending.

Fumbling the issues and suffering from a preposterous ending?  Sounds like Hillary Clinton to me.

Not so good at the math

The editorial board at the New York Times is concerned about “The Threat to Public Safety if ‘Concealed Carry’ Goes National.”

Their problem, of course, is that we CCW permit holders are just too dangerous.

There were eight million Americans with concealed-carry permits in 2012, according to federal data. That number has been growing rapidly with the gun lobby’s success in loosening state restrictions, making it possible for permit holders to pack guns in university classes and many public venues.

By 2015, the number has jumped to over 12.8 million active CCW permits.

But since 2007, concealed-carry permit holders have been responsible for at least 898 deaths not involving self-defense, according to the Violence Policy Center, a gun safety group.

Actually… the VPC is an anti-gun organization.  They operate an anti-CCW website called  Concealed Carry Killers, so they might just be a little bit biased.  BUT, for the sake of argument, lets accept their data as 100% accurate.

VPC data lists 898 deaths in 9 years.  The Crime Prevention Research Center shows that in 2007 there were 4.6 million people with CCW permits and by July, 2016 there are 14.5 million people with CCW permits.

Let’s say that the increase in permits has been linear, so the average number of permits from 2007 to 2016 is 9.55 million.  That gives us for 2007 – 2016, 1 non-justified shooting for every 10,635 CCW permit holders, or 0.0094% of CCW permit holders committed a non-justified shooting.

The CDC data on homicides is inconsistent by year.  Everytown lists an average of 11,184 homicides per year 2010 – 2014.  We know from the CDC in 2007 the number was higher than that, at 18,361 and in 2008 that went down to 16,799. We can only get national data as early as 2014, but lets assume that the Everytown average works for 2007 – 2016 (it will actually be higher, but I’m putting the numbers in VPC’s favor) than we get in 9 year a total of roughly 100,656 total homicides.

Combining that with the CCW data, that tells us that 2007 – 2016, only 0.89% of homicides were committed by CCW holders.

Lets compare with logic, shall we.

To date, there have been 661 fatal shootings in Chicago, a city with a population of 2.7 million.  That means that for just 2016 alone there was one fatal shooting for ever 4,085 Chicagoans or 0.024% of Chicagoans shot and killed somebody.  Statistically, you are more than twice as likely to be shot and killed by a random resident of the City of Chicago than by a CCW permit holder.

For Baltimore, it is 1 murder for every 2,816 residents of the Charm City.

If the NY Times is trying to scare me with the horrors of national CCW leading to murderous rampages by CCW permit holders, the numbers just don’t do that.  Seems to me that it’s safer to be in the company of CCW permit holders than around a random sampling of residents of any of the big Blue cities in America.

On Fidel Full Post

Growing up Jewish in Miami gave me an interesting perspectives on things.  I knew that I lost family in concentration camps, but they were distant relatives.  I didn’t have any survivors in my family.  I was taught about the Holocaust in Hebrew School, and a camp survivor (number tattoo and all) came to speak to us.  I had several friends who’s grandparents were survivors of the Cuban Revolution.  I would go over to their homes and their grandparents would tell us the stories of Che and Fidel’s secret police, the executions, the disappearances, the destruction of a once beautiful country by a communist dictator.  I felt as acutely about the Cuban Revolution as I did about the Holocaust, by way the first hand accounts I grew up listening to.

When I turned on the news on Friday and saw that Fidel Castro had died, I felt the same elation that many people in Miami were feeling.  Then I saw the responses from the US President and other social and world leaders.

Fidel Castro was undeniably a tyrant.  Under Fidel, thousands of Cubans were stood up against a wall and executed by firing squad.  Thousands more were murdered in political assassinations.  Fidel’s regime bled prisoners to death and sold the blood to other Communist nations for cash.  Fidel’s Cuba was one of extreme torture, political reeducation,  and the grossest violations of human rights.  Like so many other Communist leaders, while the Cuban people suffered in squalor, Fidel lived a life of affluent luxury.

Fidel’s legacy should be remembered as one of mass murder and oppression.

President Barack Obama’s official statement on Fidel’s death was a pusillanimous lack of conviction, ending with:

Today, we offer condolences to Fidel Castro’s family, and our thoughts and prayers are with the Cuban people. In the days ahead, they will recall the past and also look to the future. As they do, the Cuban people must know that they have a friend and partner in the United States of America.

No condemnation of Fidel’s 60 years of repression of the Cuban people.  No condemnation of the genocide and torture.

Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau’s official statement could only be described as fawning obsequiousness, calling Fidel “a larger than life leader who served his people for almost half a century. A legendary revolutionary and orator, Mr. Castro made significant improvements to the education and healthcare of his island nation.”

Trudeau seems to think that the disguising and derelict hospitals that the Cuban people have access to are worth the cost of the tens of thousands of Cubans that died for Fidel to seize power to build said hospitals.

Irish President Michael D. Higgins’ official statement is nearly as lauding as Trudeau’s.

Fidel Castro, known to his peers in Cuba as ‘El Comandante’, became one of the longest serving Heads of State in the world, guiding the country through a remarkable process of social and political change, advocating a development path that was unique and determinedly independent. Cuba achieved 100% literacy many years ago and built up a health system that is one the most admired in the world. With economic growth rates similar to many other Latin American countries, inequality and poverty are much less pronounced in Cuba than in surrounding nations.

Cuba’s great economy, which is ranked 177 out of 178 nations, putting it ahead of only the People’s Republic of North Famine Land Korea, and leaving the Cuban people with an average $20 per month income.  Again, Higgins believes that this economic powerhouse is worth the total repression of the Cuban People.

The leader of the UK Labour Party, Jeremy Corbyn, praised Fidel’s “heroism” and said from building a world class health and education system, to Cuba’s record of international solidarity abroad, Castro’s achievements were many.

This is the third time that a world leader praised social reforms made by Fidel over the bodies of thousands of dead dissidents.

United Nations, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called Fidel “a strong voice for Social Justice” and saidunder former President Castro, Cuba made advances in the fields of education literacy and health.

Now we’re up to five.

European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker stated With the death of Fidel Castro, the world has lost a man who was a hero for many. He changed the course of his country and his influence reached far beyond.”

Another leader praising a man who had children murdered as a hero.

Former President Jimmy Carter made a statement saying “Rosalynn and I share our sympathies with the Castro family and the Cuban people on the death of Fidel Castro.  We remember fondly our visits with him in Cuba and his love of his country.”

Fidel loved his country so much that he killed over 11,000 of his own countrymen to destroy its economy for more than half a century.

American “Civil Rights” leader Jesse Jackson responded to the death of Fidel with this Tweet:

jesse-jackson-castro

This is something out of Bizarro World.  Fidel Castro was a tyrant who oppressed his people, crushing the freedoms of speech, the press, political opinion, and art under the heel of his Soviet issued boot.

Similar statements were made by other borderline tyrannical leaders of other barely above Thrid World nations.

There is an Idiom attributed to Aesop: a man is known by the company he keeps.

What you see above is a list of Leftist world leaders who fell over themselves to absolve Fidel Castro of the atrocities that he committed against the Cuban people to be part of the Radical Chic.

If you want to understand why I own guns.  This is why I own guns.  This is why my father taught me to shoot.  This is why the mantra of Jews, Cubans, and so many other is (in various languages): “never again.”

It is said, scratch a Liberal and find a Fascist underneath.  The slobbering eulogies given by these leaders demonstrates that to a tee.  Not one condemned Castro for the subjugation, torture, or execution of innocents and dissidents.   No one condemned Castro’s control of the press or internet, or suppression of free expression.  They only praised his non-existent accomplishments.

It illustrates a complete lack of morality among these leaders.  Hip liberals can proclaim that Justin Trudeau is the “top woke bae” because of his feminist policies, but Trudeau ignored that Cuba’s literacy rate came at the expense of the lives of thousands of executed Cubans.

There is a quote often attributed to Joseph Stalin: “A single death is a tragedy; a million deaths is a statistic.”  These world leaders proved that not just is 10,000 deaths a statistic, but it is such a small statistic that it can be ignored.

If these leaders can justify political genocide with Fidel’s policies, it makes you wonder if these same leaders would be willing to commit the same atrocities in their homelands.

Would Trudeau be willing to shorten the wait times for health care by lining Canadians who disagree with him up against a wall and having them shot?

We know the history of Europe is rife with mass murder, so I wouldn’t put it past European leaders to feel this way.  There has been no shortage of European heads of state that thought they could get the trains to run on time if only they shot the right people.

Even in America, we’ve seen from the anti-Trump protests just how the far Left feels about it’s fellow Americans;  far too many call for the oppression and even death of anti-Hillary/pro-Trump people.

If a person can ignore the horrors committed by Fidel to create an honorable legacy for that tyrant, it’s not a great leap in logic to wonder if they would do the same thing themselves.

The love of tyranny that lives in the hearts of so many world leaders was on full display after Fidel’s death.  It is a horrifying reminder that we are a hair’s breadth from living under the boot of a self-aggrandizing monster.

The people of Canada and Europe may live with what little freedom they have left at the mercy of their leaders.

Here in the US, it is more important than ever to remain armed and vigilant.

Opposite Ends

Compare and contrast these two videos.

The top video was filmed in Portland after the election of Donald Trump.  Residents were protesting the lawful and peaceful election of a United States president, that occurred in accordance with our Constitution.  The were protesting the democratic process because their candidate lost.

The bottom video was filmed in Miami after the death of Fidel Castro.  These people were celebrating the death of a Dictator who killed and oppressed countless Cubans after he seized power and murdered the opposition.

Im not sure if I could capture the extreme ideological differences between the Left and Right in America by way of spontaneous public action if I tried.

All I know is if a bunch of anti Trump protesters hold a moment of silence for Castro, I won’t feel bad if a mob of Cuban Americans kick the shit out of them.
