Semi-retired like Vito Corleone before the heart attack. Consiglieri to J.Kb and AWA. I lived in a Gun Control Paradise: It sucked and got people killed. I do believe that Freedom scares the political elites.

From Bad Old Days to Colectible Items.

I was glancing over the “new” “Assault-Weapons-Ban-of-2018”  and came across the expected banning of magazines with more than 10 rounds and the exception to Law Enforcement and Military.

Old memories creeped back of the Bad Old days and magazines tagged like this:

Right now they are just collectibles in somebody’s closet or safe. I could not fine one for sale so I am figuring they would fetch a pretty penny. But back during the 10 years of the AWB, they were a slap in the face of every gun owner. The government in writing told us we were second class or even third class citizens and we were not dignified enough to own those high cap mags, only the Police and Military had the trust of the Powers that Be to have them.

There was never a drought of Hi Cap mags per se.  Companies went crazy manufacturing them till the cut off day and people bought them at whatever price they could get. I remember being asked $80 for a Taurus PT-92, 15 round mag which normally was priced at $30-$35.  I got me one or two mags that were less than ideal and had to be disposed off because they simply sucked.  The market eventually settled to a less crazy level and you could still find magazines for most guns so you can certainly say the magazine ban had zero effect in whatever results the Democrats were trying to achieve.

Fourteen years later and millions of ARs and AKs and other rifles later, I have to laugh at the prospect of a ban on magazines. Manufacturing has improved so much that metalwork is faster and more durable than before producing magazines that will probably last a couple of generations. And we are also in the great era of plastics where companies like Magpul churn their great polymer magazines like churros  at a county fair.  Basically, if back then the magazine ban was unsuccessful, today it would be a total waste of time and it would only work to fill the country with 30 rounders.

Gun Control is the only successful job creation & economic stimulus project the Democrats ever achieved.  You have to give them props for that.

When the eyes open.

My mom lives with us. She is a perky little lady about t hit her mid 80s and I am just trying to make her comfy and enjoy herself after a long and hard life. About 30 minutes ago, I was making sure she had taken her med and the TV was on in Telemundo of some other Spanish channel where they were excoriating the NRA and trying to excuse everybody in the chain of fuck ups in the Parkland shooting.

I don’t chat US politics with mom. She is still pissed at what’s going on I Venezuela (You would be too if you had to leave 50 years of hard work behind) but I do tell her to ignore the asshole Cuban and Mexican commentators who are more politically closer to Hugo Chavez than John Kennedy.  But while in her room, the Talking Head of the Hour made some snide remark about NRA members and I made the remark about not quite gaining me over his side by insulting me, an NRA member.

“Are you an NRA member?” She asked surprised.
“Yes mom, since I was in Nashville. More on than off for three decades.”
“But you don’t have one of those ‘Armas de asalto’  Do you?”
“Oh, hell yes I do. It is the ugly one it comes out every time there is a hurricane.”
“That ugly thing?”
Si. You have to stop paying attention to that idiot.

Now, somewhere in a CD rom or thumb drive, there is a picture of mom holding my AKlon with a smile on her face and for the life of me, I can’t find it. But it goes to show how the Media will influence people because they simply do not know the basics of  firearms. And also, if it is any reference, the same people, once informed, get mighty pissed off about being lied to.  Mom was royally pissed at the Talking Head because she realized he had been talking shit about her baby boy. Damn, that woman at almost 86 (in 2 weeks) can seriously cuss!

And that is why we win.

State Senator bemoans that his sons would not be able to be aggresive against an armed teacher.

Via McThag.

Here’s Florida Senator Oscar Branynon (D-Miami Gardens)  uttering his infamous “Not to be aggressive to teachers” quote. If for some reason does not start at the cue, go to 6:33. against

If nothing else, Florida teachers should demand a clean bill Marshall after seeing the respect a State Senator have for them.  And also they should stop voting Democrat.

If you feel like having a couple of stiff drinks, you may want to watch the whole video. It is an amazing display of youthful stupidity who thought they were addressing pals in Snapchat and not a Legislature committee. I give extra stupid points to the kid who actually said they were eating Tide Pods the week before and now they were there and would be taking over their Senate seats in the future. Nothing endears you with your Stat Senator than comparing him/her with your detergent-chewing self.

Good Doggy!

Carjacking and chase in California (Where else) ends when K9 tackes the Bad Boy and refuses to let him go.

I do believe the dog wanted to slap the cuff on the suspect …LOL

Hat Tip to Mike W. for the much needed respite.

The Woodstock Effect.

Back in the Hippie Ages of 1969, there was a concert in Woodstock, NY touted as “Three days of Peace, and Music”  and as it was the times, an anti Vietnam War gathering but without the stupid fanaticism.

About a decade later, maybe more, I dusted the album (A triple vinyl) one day to listen to it again and as i was reading the cover, I noticed that some of the artists were still relevant even after they were dead like Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin, some bands disappear as they reach the end of their creative life and the artists continued on their own. But what called my attention were the artists that were still alive and working, but nobody cared for them anymore like Joan Baez. Most of those artist had something in common: They got political and Anti-War in a heavy way. People simply had stopped paying attention, specially since the war was over, the sentiment changed from being against the soldiers to embarrassment for crapping on them plus everybody was tired and did not want to hear about Vietnam anymore.

It is my contention that those Anti War musicians were perennially associated with their political activity and, the moment the politics changed, they became irrelevant in the eyes of the music lovers. I call it the Woodstock Effect: If you are an artist and dabble in politics, you will eventually lose.”

When my partner and I had the studio, one of our policies was zero political work, including government work. We never did work for any political party and trust me, they came with literally briefcases full of cash so we would give in. But we knew that if we happened to do work for the asshole that lost, the asshole that won would have taken it personally and send government people to screw with us. Once the word spread out that we didn’t do political stuff for anybody, they stopped coming and no winner ever messed with us. We understood that all politics are cyclical and some people have long memories. It simply was not worth the risk in the long run.

So I could not help and smile when J. Kb. wrote:

“This is why you don’t bow to obnoxious activists. When the news cycle shifts to the next big topic, all you’ve really done is fucked yourself.”

Shit has not changed, it just got much faster and has a wider reach.

It is good that a new generation reached the same conclusions.  I can now retire to Florida…. Oh wait…. shit.
