SB-128 Burden of Proofby Sen. Rob Bradley and Rep. Bobby Payne restores the presumption of innocence in self-defense cases by putting the burden of proof BACK ON THE STATE where it belongs.
Please use the following email address to contact the Governor and ask him to Please Sign SB-128 Burden of Proof.
Memorial Day in Miami Beach has become a magnet for the worst of the Hip Hop culture, namely the Gansta Attitude:
MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (AP) — An argument over a parking space in a crowded tourist district escalated into two fatal shootings, including one involving police officers, Florida authorities said Monday.
The initial fight began late Sunday when a white BMW attempted to parallel park along Ocean Drive in popular South Beach, according to an arrest report released by Miami Beach Police.
The space was too small for the BMW, which struck a parked Buick Regal several times. The Buick’s owner was standing nearby and walked over with another man to confront the other driver…
…The BMW’s driver told the other men to step back, then handed a gun to Jeffery Alexander, 19, of Brooklyn, New York, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, according to the report.
Police said Alexander fired multiple shots as the BMW pulled away from the parking space.
The Buick’s owner was shot in the leg. Police said Ladarian Tyrell Phillips, 30, of Homestead, Florida, was fatally shot in the back
Miami Beach is a very small island. On its widest point is less than a mile and a half, it has only 4 entrances and exits with mainland and the streets are very narrow and on party times, crowded with traffic. Trying to do stupid stuff is like trying to play hide and seek inside a 7-11.
The BMW crashed into two police cars several blocks away, but it didn’t stop completely until confronted by two officers, who fired at it, said police spokesman Ernesto Rodriguez.
One suspect in the car was shot and died at a hospital. Three other suspects in the car were detained, including one apprehended by a K9 officer after fleeing the scene on foot, police said.
I am sure in their minds, it did not look anything like that.
Here is an unrelated video of the area where the shooting happened:
I don’t think I have been in Miami Beach in more than 10 years, possibly even more than 15. I do not look at locations with the eye of the party goer or the tourist but trying to see what or who can harm me and there is an underbelly in Miami Beach that back then embraced the wild/stupid/criminal side but was not too obvious. Right now they have not only accepted it but flaunt it with a total disregard for the people who actually live there.
If you come to South Florida and you are set in your heart of hearts to see Miami Beach because Miami Vice and stuff, do so during the daytime and still with proper protection. Be advised that pretty much all the location of the TV show are not there or look different.
As for me, it is still high on the list titled Stupid Places
A Florida man faces manslaughter charges after a confrontation with a woman in a Daytona Beach bar that stemmed from allegations that he groped her. Police say Michael Lamothe, 35, punched the 54-year-old victim, causing her to hit her head, USA Today reports.Debra Jost died in a hospital one day after the Saturday incident at the Oyster Bay bar. Lamothe was arrested Wednesday and held in the Volusia County Jail without bail.
I keep coming to events like this because the myth of the “unarmed man” as if the person was incapable of killing or gravely injuring somebody. Also to make clear that there are no points to be won to engage in a contest of penile measuring rather and hands-only gladiator skills: If you can avoid all fighting, you are better off as probably you don’t know the skill of your opponent or if he will suddenly decide to upgrade the fight to Armed Combat.
This is one of those bills that does not look like much, but I think it may have an avalanche effect. Just research all the crap it has brought gun owners since it became part of GCA 1968 and you can see it would be YUGE (Sorry, I had to do it.)
It has only 38 co-sponsors so far so we need to drop a line to our Reps and eventually Senators so they back this bill. The times have changed: The Gun Culture is no longer one of just Hunting and shooting clays but competition and Self Defense, the last not being a sporting event. To define our defensive weapons under a definition that didn’t make much sense half a century ago and has no sense now is dangerously idiotic.
Jovantae Jackson had been trying to cut ties with a local gang and was beginning to turn his life around, his grandmother said, when he was shot dead walking home from school. He had recently finished a court-ordered house arrest for a gun charge. The 18-year-old senior at Stellar Leadership Academy Charter School had just found a job at a local fast food restaurant and was two weeks from graduating high school. Three weeks ago, he learned he was going to be a father.
This is part of the article, I found it illuminating.
Davis, Jackson’s teacher, said he first noticed Jackson during first period reading class, because the teen was wearing an ankle bracelet — one ordered by a court. Stellar Academy is an alternative program for students who have left regular high schools because of behavioral and attendance issues.
So, we have here a “Former” gang member with already a felony conviction for a weapon’s charge, already with a girl pregnant… but he was a good boy who changed his ways but somehow was targeted.
And somehow I get the feeling that the accompanying photo for the article shows a very much younger Mr Jackson. Here is photo when he was booked:
Desperately seeking Trayvon, Part 2? It did work in the past, right?
