Broward Schools Security Spending.

And this got asked in the comment section

In 2014, Broward county voted for a Bond issue for $800 million which a

I did a some digging and found a report from Florida Tax Watch addressing the expenditures in several areas of Broward’s schools including security. If what I read is right, the only thing done so far that I have seen was that $109.7 million were allocated for Security improvements after Parkland and that it has been concentrated in the last 2 years on what is called ” Single Point of Entry.” My guess is to shut down all the entries to school but for one that is tightly controlled. Here is a table with the expenditures till

Now I will admit I am confused by the language in the report, but If I make any sense, this is how much it was spent in securing chain-link faces and gates till June 2018: $23,125,707.

According to what I think I read in the report and after about a year or a bit more, just a tad more of the schools in Broward county have finished putting locks and chains in the gates that will no longer be allowed to be open.

Am I reading this right? No idea, I am not an accountant.  Another report, the Bond Oversight Committee Quarterly Report, June 2018 (731 pages long) gives us the following:

Safety and Security

The safety and security of students and staff continues to be the District’s highest priority. With a total approved budget of approximately $132 Million, the SAFETY component of the SMART program reflects various aspects of work including Single Point of Entry (SPE), fire sprinkler, fire alarm, and emergency exit signage/lighting improvements.
SPE projects have been a top priority in the SMART Program from early on the process. In 2016, BCPS prioritized the SPE Program by accelerating Year 4 and 5 Projects to begin in Year 3. In September 2017, BCPS identified and funded 123 additional SPE projects. In February 2018, SPE projects that were included as part of renovation project packages at 20 schools were separated out so that all SPE improvements at all BCPS schools could be completed by the end of 2018 or first quarter of 2019. This is more than two years ahead of the original 2021 completion date. As of June 2018, ALL safety and security projects have been initiated and are in various stages of implementation. Last quarter 138 projects were in the Design Phase and 66 projects were complete or met District standards. The SPE initiative made significant progress quarter with 75 projects now in the Design Phase and 135 projects complete or meet District standards.
In addition to other District security measures, SPE improvements serve to augment and enhance current safeguards by limiting access to the school through one entrance point during school hours. Improvements can include perimeter fencing, new doors or gates, and other security features that fit the unique design of each school. Working collaboratively with the school communities, the District remains diligent about enforcing existing security protocols while continuing to seek ways to enhance current features through county-wide assessments. (Page 90)

Here I see something interesting: Broward County had decided years before the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting that Single Points of Entry were necessary for the safety of the schools. So much so that in 2016, the funding for it was prioritized. And still after the massacre, barely half the schools in the county are set with Single Points of Entry by June 2018.

Red icons are the pedestrian gates.

We know from the Report to The Governor that the pedestrian gates were regularly unlocked and left unsupervised prior to the beginning and ending of the school day and it was one of those unlocked and unsupervised on the east of the school which Nikolas Cruz gained access to the inside.

Let’s face it, Single Points of Entry starts with keeping all but one gate open and manned. That is about three feet of chain and a lock per gate and according to Home Depot, just under $20 worth of chain and padlock. I guess it was less trouble for the employees and less bitching from the students and parents to have 6 pedestrian gates unmanned and open.

Shall we add not having Single Points of Entry done as another link in the chain of many failures that led to the Parkland Massacre?

The next Florida School shooter is just planning away in safety.

It seems statistically hard to come up with any organizations as unlikely to take responsibility for anything as local school boards.  Want to guess how many school districts have decided to take advantage of the Guardian Program?  How many added specially trained security forces?  There are 67 counties in Florida; I’m not sure it’s always one school district in a county, but there’s at least one per county so it’s a good approximation.

Two.  Out of 67.  Call it 3%.  I’m sorry to say that my county isn’t even one of them

A Year After Parkland Shooting, Florida Students Are No Safer – The Silicon Graybeard

The school boards have chosen for the most part to remain soft targets. They never gave a damn about the kids’ safety because they are betting on nothing happening to them. And for the most part, they are right (except for the unlucky school that gets snake eyes) but the are salivating for their piece of half a billion dollars in funding assigned for “School Safety.” I can’t imagine what kind of influence  they can get spreading that money around.

Maybe the next shooter will forego the kids and go straight for the teachers. Maybe then they will change their tunes and allow real solutions.

Yeah, not happening.

You are going the wong way about this.

This happened in Alabama.

Instead oF DO NOT APPROACH, I would go with HAPPY HUNTING!

I’d bet you he would tun himself in rather fast. You can pull that crap in NYC or L.A but Alabama?

Representative Ilhan Omar is a thouroughly Stupid Broad.

I should have gone with bitch instead of broad, but female dogs are smart. Where do I start?

Coup? Who is doing the coup? The remnants of Blackwater? The Wild Geese? The Dogs of War? I ask because the Venezuelan Armed Forces were pretty much filtered of anybody not loyal to the Chavez Revolution over a decade ago. Any officer above Major has been thoroughly vetted by both the Venezuela and Cuban intelligence apparatus.

Far Right Opposition? Who? Because the last of the Militaristic Right died in 1958 and every government since has been one of hyphen-Social-hyphen of some kind. For God’s sake the first elected president after 1958 was Romulo Betancourt who was one of the founders of the Communist Party of Venezuela and threw a coup attempt under the Red Banner. He got elected under the Social-Democrat colors. Hugo Chavez received the presidency from President Rafael Caldera who was the leader of the Social-Christian party of Venezuela. Basically Venezuela was Sweden when it come to its politics: Buch of semi-socialists sucking the Petrodollars.

Political dialogue is established between to parties under good faith. That has not applied in Venezuela for many years now. Maduro will do the basic steps to dog-and-pony show he is complying with the dialogue and ignoring it at the same time because he is got the power of the gun. Why would he be so stupid as to make concessions? Fucker’s got his pockets lined and can ignore “sanctions” all he wants, plus now he has the backing of the new breed of congress-idiots in Washington who care more about  stick it to the President than seeking a real solution for Venezuela. Fuck, I am sure this falafel-eater did not now what Venezuela was till the President tweeted about not recognizing Maduro and then she had to say something to oppose him rather than finding out what is the problem in a country I bet she thinks is 20 miles south of Cancun and probably a cool place for Spring Break.

PS:If you feel offended by the way I name-called Congresscritter Omar, I can only tell you Thank You!

The arrest or Roger Stone. (UPDATE)

This was a heavy-handed message. Roger Stone was no Tony Montana waiting inside his house with an M-203 and a pile of coke in front of him, they could have sent notification to his lawyer to present himself at the local FBI building 15 miles away as the crow flies. And a full tactical team with CNN recording video? This is more ATF back in the day which eventually led with the colossal screw up at Waco.

This is the FBI announcing sides and not in favor of the President. And it is also the local agency trying to look butch after they dropped the ball with Nikki Cruz and the Parkland massacre.

20 years ago we thought we were about to see the disappearance of the ATF. Now we may be seeing two of them.

That is scary.

UPDATE: The Super Evil Villain Robert Stone who needed a Tactical team to effect his arrest at the wee hours of the morning like he was some confirmed terrorist about to bomb orphanages…. is already out on bail.

Not even 12 hours.

Tell me it was not a show of force for sheer intimidation.
