Around 88 people are shot dead in the US every day, but those horrifying statistics are not doing anything to dampen America’s love of weapons. In fact, a worryingly significant minority of parents are showing their devotion to the Second Amendment by naming their children after weapons. Gunner is the most popular choice for gun-toting parents, but other names like Trigger, Shooter, Caliber and Pistol are proving popular.
As somebody commented in Facebook, at least they are not called Safety Pin or Safe Space or Social Justice Warrior. Now, Ms. Halkon finds worrisome that people in another country not hers are giving gun related names to their kids, but I could not find her opinion about the number one male baby name in England: Muhammad
“Meanwhile, five little boys were named Danger last year while there were 11 named Arson and nine called Chaos.”
These parents seem to know more about children than most. IMHO I suppose the next question would be is there a correlation between these names and the children so named committing violent acts with firearms. Stay tuned for a definitive study care of “The Trace” or the VPC.
To be fair, liberal former congressman from NYC and failed mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner used the pseudonym “Carlos Danger” when sexting underage girls, so we can’t say for certain those kids weren’t named after him. Right? 🙂
He did keep showing his “gun”, right?
My youngest is named after Col. Colt.
I’m serious.
This sort of thing has been going for decades. Remember Arson Welles?
