The Plantation Police Department launched a manhunt to arrest a suspect who shot a man during a struggle in a Broward County Transit bus.
The shooting occurred Saturday at about 3 p.m. as the bus approached eastbound Broward Boulevard just west of Nob Hill Road.
Plantation police said the shooting stemmed from an argument between two passengers. The victim was shot once and the suspect fled the scene.
An area of west Broward Boulevard and Nob Hill Road was temporarily shut down amid a manhunt involving a helicopter for the armed suspect, police said.
Plantation police released the following description of the backpack-wearing suspect: “Dark skin black male, 5’2 to 5’3 stocky build, late 20’s early 30’s, last seen wearing black Reebok shirt w/ white t-shirt underneath, frayed jean shorts.”
The victim was transported to Fort Lauderdale’s Broward Health Medical Center.

The video tells us a partial story that does not fit much with the written article. The event had long gone past a simple “argument between two passengers” and it was a full on beating by a bigger passenger against a smaller one. At the same time, we don’t know what or who provoked it and leaving the scene is does not raise good feelings nor it helps legally to the shooter. In fact it makes the person look guilty and will more than likely used against him if arrested.
No promises, but I’ll update if anything more comes up about this case.
Broward County again?
Something about stupid people, stupid places and doing stupid things?
To be fair, Broward is the second-most populous county in Florida and the 15th-most populous county in the United States. About two million people, give or take, live there year ‘round and it sees a significant amount of tourist traffic and seasonal residents (Fort Lauderdale is wholly in the county and the northern half is essentially the city of Miami in all but name).
Simple law of averages is that the more people you have in an area, the more likely you’re going to get Bad People, Stupid People, and Weird People.
It’s also my understanding that one of the reasons for the abundance of “Florida Man Does Weird Thing” headlines stems from some quirk in their police reporting laws that make it easier for the press to run salacious stories without as much fear of libel suits.
Factor in the larger population, drug and alcohol abuse, and year round warm weather (people tend not to commit as many crimes when there’s a foot of snow) and *presto* you’ve got yourself the memetic Florida Man!
Oregon has a much smaller population and less open police records. But we tend to make up in quality what we lack in quantity! Our “Portland Man” stories usually involve our elected officials, civic leaders, or institutions of higher learning. Take that, Florida!
Sunshine Law. Government Records (with few exceptions) must be public ASAP so you feed the machine of Florida Man constantly.
Even Home Owner Associations meetings must be announced and open to the public, one of the reasons I lasted but 3 weeks in mine. If you happened to be talking with another neighbor who was in the HOA, assholes would accuse you of having a secret meeting.
Most states have some form of “sunshine law,” the Florida one is just especially potent.
Such a vibrant culture. Clearly, we need to keep giving them fat welfare checks to encourage their riotous reproduction, and import millions more, so that persons living in places lacking “diversity” can get “culturally enriched.”
