Amateur Gun Porn

Once again from the Spanish Guardia Civil museum

It is a home made firearm created with a piece of pipe and a motorcycle carburetor. Shotgun perhaps? Being ignorant on how carburetors work I cannot figure how this thing fires.

And this is a shotgun made out of a bed headboard.

In reality, we do not need 3D printers or any sophisticated computer driven stuff. We just need to properly recycle.

Boston – National Guard units seeking to confiscate a cache of recently banned assault weapons were ambushed on April 19 by elements of a para-military extremist faction. Military and law enforcement sources estimate that 72 were killed and more than 200 injured before government forces were compelled to withdraw.
Speaking after the clash, Massachusetts Governor Thomas Gage declared that the extremist faction, which was made up of local citizens, has links to the radical right-wing tax protest movement.

Go read the whole thing, have a laugh and then realize where are we standing now.

dealers demand action

Anybody reading this will say that the message is simple: 60% of the guns recovered in all crime scenes come from 1% of gun dealers, right?

Well, not quite so. Here is a screen cap of the original report:

dealers demand action 2

So it is not all the guns recovered from crime scenes but just the guns that were able to be traced to 1.2% of the 83,200 licensed retail dealers and pawnbrokers at that time.

But even so, those dealers that break the law must be punished, right? The way that ATF deals with that is the revocation of the license and possible indictment on gun trafficking charges. Does that mean that 1,02 FFLs were revoked?

dealers demand action 3

That number of 20 FFLs whose licenses were revoked (I assume) come out to be 0.24% of all Gun Dealers in the US at that time.  As it happened, most of the other FFLs’ violations were poor record keeping, bad inventory and other administrative issues and given reprimands. As  far as I could see in the report, no indictments were handed down for gun trafficking.

I could dice and slice the graphic even more by applying some other considerations, but I think this sums it up pretty much: They lie  because if they told the truth, they would not have an issue to complain about.

An update on the Everytown Facebook Graphic boondoggle.

I was contacted by Erika Soto Lamb who is the Communications Director for Everytown.org regarding this now infamous pic:

She stated the following:

I want to make sure you know that this is not our page or our image.  There are impostors who are cybersquatting on the FB page with our name — Facebook is working on this now because it is against their policies.

It also goes without saying that this is the case the “strategist and manager of social media” Kevin Call had nothing to do with it. I was tempted to ask Ms. Soto who was responsible for not securing the proper Facebook spaces, but I thought better to avoid the issue.

I am willing to give them a smidgen of the benefit of the doubt since it is not the first time and certainly not the last that stuff like this has happened and you may want to do the same but your mileage may vary and you make up your own mind.

UPDATE: And then there is this view of the whole thing brought to you by Days of Our Trailers.

I fear you are full of it.

jay branscomb

Weer points out the obvious Photoshop in this work by Jay Branscomb and “Still through that fake smoke it sure looks like that’s a fully loaded .44 Magnum cartridge coming out of that S&W629.

I am gonna disagree. It looks more like a 45-70 bullet coming out of a S&W629, you know, the bullet that will put down a buffalo at several hundred yards?  Even being a full-sized magnum revolver, the recoil would be akin to hold a 1/4 stick of dynamite in your open hand.

And on a separate note to Mr. Branscomb: You don’t have to fear us with your kids, in fact you should pray that is some Adam Lanza-type ever violates the sanctity of a place where children gather, one of us be there to stop him. Unfortunately if you were in that same position, you’d end up being another body on the pile of corpses.

Is your data safe with the National Association For Gun Rights?

The good folks at the Polite Society have called attention to an apparent mishandling of personal data by NAGR. And the issue is compounded by the apparent lack of care from the group after being asked about it.

In order to join, you have to give a lot of personal data and that initial page info intro page is not on a secure server (payment apparently is protected by a third party credit card processor called Charge Anywhere LLC) and that does not make me warm and fuzzy… then again I am not planning on joining anytime soon.

I’d say that until the problems are fixed and a good explanation and apologies are give, you should be very careful with what kind of info you may want to share with this group.

BankUnited Discriminates Against Gun Dealers, Local Store Owners Claim | Miami New Times

The Libertis’ battle with BankUnited began last month. For seven years, they say, they had no problem with the Miami Lakes-based bank. T.R. had run a gun store in the Garden State, and when he opened Top-Gun Firearms on Calle Ocho, BankUnited operated the account.

But when T.R. decided to retire and let Elizabeth take the store online — under the new name Discount Ammo-N-Guns — the Libertis found themselves suddenly under fire.

A March 12 letter mysteriously informed them that BankUnited was closing their checking account “pursuant to the terms and conditions listed in our Depositor’s Agreement.” It gave the Libertis three days to transfer their cash elsewhere. When the Libertis called BankUnited for an explanation, they were politely informed that none would be forthcoming.

I am amazed that we are still seeing this stuff happening.  But here is the kicker:

After a day of dialing different BankUnited divisions and directors, the Libertis finally found out.
“This letter in no way reflects any derogatory reasons for such action on your behalf. But rather one of industry,” wrote Coral Way branch manager Ricardo Garcia. “Unfortunately your company’s line of business is not commensurate with the industries we work with.

BankUnited refused to explain the email to New Times, saying only, “We cannot discuss a customer’s account.”

your company’s line of business is not commensurate with the industries we work with.” As if selling a legal and VERY popular product is somehow distasteful and immoral.  That BankUnited was “the second-most costly such failure for the FDIC.” with 5.8 BILLION dollars evaporating from its accounts is a legitimate line of business. That they got their assets seized is a great demonstration of their honesty and morality shown on their involvement in subprime lending loans.

And I cannot make sense that you would reject the income from about the only business practice that has not only not being affected by the economy but it has actually grown.  If I were an investor, I’d be demanding the figuratively heads of whatever morons did this.
