LOL for the day: Ten Signs You’re Not From Miami

There are about a million types of people in Miami: billionaires and day laborers, porn stars and conservative Jews, and just about every nationality on the planet. But when you really think about it, there are just two kinds of people in this town: The ones who are from Miami, and the ones who aren’t.

Plenty of people move to South Florida to start a new life in the sun and on the sand. But until you’ve lived here a while, learned a few things, and passed a few tests, most locals won’t accept you as a “real” Miamian.

Wondering what you’re missing? Here are ten telltale signs you’re not from Miami.

So frigging true…. #9, #8 & #4 are the ones I use the most to detect those damn foreigners…mostly people from Broward and Palm Beach Counties.

Slashing Immunity for Self Defense in Florida

Politicians are like Two year Olds: You leave them unattended and they shave the cat, eat the dirt out of the potted palms and poop all over the living room.

The last scheme coming out of two idiots in Tallahassee (Sen. David Simmons, R-Altamonte Springs and Sen. Chris Smith of Fort Lauderdale) is to punish anybody defending themselves by removing a big chunk of the immunity from the law we have right now.

It also clarifies that anyone who uses force against an attacker can still be responsible if they injure or kill an uninvolved bystander.

via Florida senators approve tweaks to ‘stand your ground’ law | News – Home.

Senate Bill 130 bring us this delightful gift to Tort Lawyers and Gun Control advocates. The last thing anybody trying to defend him/herself is to wonder if saving themselves might come with the price tag of being penniless for the rest of their lives. You can be sued for even defending yourself IN YOUR HOME! And it does not need to be deadly force or even using a firearm. Go read statutes 776.012, s. 776.013, or s. 776.031.

Nobody wants to see an innocent get hurt by something we do. But an incident in which we must defend ourselves is something fluid and impossible to predict in its outcome. If I am not the initiator and I am not the predator, why should I have to be the one paying for the actions leading to the injury of a third-party? Shouldn’t the attacker be the one footing for the bill? Or is it because Law Abiding citizens have insurance and decent property the reason some jackasses want to extract money from us? ‘Cause lets face it, you average meth-head or career criminal is not flush with cash and whatever he may have, it is probably a byproduct or direct product of the crime and thus will be collected by authorities as stolen merchandise or seizure laws.

This bill needs to be killed ASAP.

This is the law as it stands now:
A person who uses force as permitted in s. 776.012, s. 776.013, or s. 776.031 is justified in using such force and is immune from criminal prosecution and civil action for the use of such force

And this is the new version being proposed by Simmons & Smith:
A person who uses force as permitted in s. 776.012, s.776.013, or s. 776.031 is justified in using such force and is immune from criminal prosecution and civil action by the person, personal representative, or heirs of the person, against whom
force was used for the use of such force

Time to spank the two-year olds….

Odds and Ends for Week 41

Gonna do this whenever I feel too lazy to write.

The cure for the common Road Rage

The driver said he then lowered his car window to talk to Hernandez. “I told the guy, I was like, ‘What’s going on?'” Following a heated exchange, the victim said Hernandez pulled out what he believed to be a gun. “Being a gun holder, I pulled mine out and I said, ‘You don’t want to do this right now.’ Words were exchanged more, he sped forward, and that’s when he tried basically running me off the road.

And even that, the idiot behaved like an idiot. Kudos to the “victim” for remaining calm and collected.

Gun Tourism in Hawaii… doing it wrong.

I’d come to Hawaii for the beach, the food, the weather. Apparently, some people come for the firearms.

They’re gun tourists, let’s say.
Finger & Trigger: not a cool combination.

via Gun Tourism Is All The Rage In Hawaii – Forbes.

If you check their Facebook page, you’ll see some safety violations and even some “Sabrinas.” Just because they are tourists that do not have a tradition in firearms, does not excuse anybody to act the fool or the company to allow it.

Pastor shot, killed during church ceremony

A pastor was shot and killed during a church service on Friday night in Calcasieu.

According to Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Kim Myers, it happened around 8:20 p.m. at the Tabernacle of Praise Worship Center at 307 Deshotel Lane in Lake Charles.

via CPSO: Pastor shot, killed during church ceremony – KPLC 7 News, Lake Charles, Louisiana.

Nobody needs guns in church….until you need one. I am amazed sometimes at how some people firmly believe that churches were never armed and should never have anybody armed. Last fellow Catholic that came with that argument had the pause button activated when I asked her to explain the Swiss Guards at the Vatican. Clayton Cramer had a nice article about bringing guns to church being mandatory as far back as in per-independence days.

Why I don’t hunt… (wee bit gory)

Mostly because I can’t carry a short-barreled recoilless rifle for very long.

grizzlyDid you see the size of those claws? No way in hell I am going into a location where an animal that has metal cutters as standard option, roams free and unhindered.

And I don’t know if the bear craps in the wood, but I most certainly will if I come across that scene.

I’ll hunt my meat at WallyWorld.

NBC Sports Will Not Sponsor the SHOT Show….. So?

NBC Sports will not be a sponsor of the nation’s largest gun trade show next year, a spokesperson confirmed to Media Matters. The network had served for several years as a top sponsor of the event, which has billed itself as a show of industry strength against stronger gun laws.

“Our level of sponsorship has varied each year, and this January we will not be sponsoring the show because it does not make business sense for us at this time,” said the NBC Sports spokesperson…….

……..While NBC Sports will not sponsor the event, their executives will be at the show conducting meetings and entertaining clients, according to the network’s spokesperson, who stressed that the network is participating for the show’s focus on hunting and outdoor sports, not firearms.

via After Years Of Support, NBC Sports Will Not Sponsor Nation’s Largest Gun Show | Blog | Media Matters for America.

I confess that I have no idea about the level of influence or participation that NBC Sports had on the SHOT show. It could not be that big since I never seen a TV special from them about it and I get my dose of SHOT Show news from the usual suspects: The already known Firearms Cable shows like American Shooter, Gun Talk TV and one of the several hundred shows from Michael Bane, plus the blogosphere.

My take about NBC Sports not sponsoring SHOT? A resounding “Meh!”

The Firearm Report | An Urban Operator’s First IDPA Match (Part 2)

I see the first target, disregard my sights, and break the first shot.

“BANG!…Click.”

I glance down and see a double feed. In a millisecond, I get pissed. I have never experienced a failure to eject with my Taurus PT1911.

I look back up and see that I am still facing two, yet to be neutralized bad guys. I remove my support hand from my firearm and reach for the small of my back. My hand reaches underneath my TAD Gear Stealth Hoodie and feels the warm rubber of the handle of my TraumaHawk, the finest tactical TomaHawk money can buy.

Yup… I saw something similar once. No, not making it up. This is some seriously funny stuff 🙂
