He has refused to pass other Laws for the accommodation of large districts of people, unless those people would relinquish the right of Representation in the Legislature, a right inestimable to them and formidable to tyrants only.

I know you read it in a gun forum somewhere, IDPA will get you killed. There are some illustrated fools who make their life in forums by bad mouthing IDPA for whatever silly and/or nefarious reasons. Some are just repeating what they read somewhere, some have a vested interest in you attending their Ninja Gunfighter School of Magic Tricks and some probably sucked so bad at the sport that their egos still have not healed.

I am not going to launch into another tirade in defense of IDPA and other shooting sports but rather describe a teaching moment courtesy of an IDPA match. Yours truly is called to the line to face a 9 target Course of Fire to be shot on the move. The rationale behind the stage was that you were caught in the open when a gang of miscreants decide to come after you. You were to draw and engage all of the Bad Guys with at least 2 good shots on each target as I made my way to the safety of my vehicle.  Bad news: All but 2 of the bad guys are behind some sort of hard cover and I wasn’t and that meant shooting on the move and fast. As per Safety Officer’ instruction I load my gun and get ready…BEEP!

I had decided to play it safe, shoot fast and shoot every target at least three times and by golly I did. By the fourth target I perform a reload from slide lock that was a smooth as if I was Head SWAT Master of the Ninja  Tactical Academy. I keep going fast making all sort of neatly placed 9 mm holes in the targets and reaching the last target that receives one shot before the gun goes again in slide lock. I reach for the remaining spare mag in my waist and….. it was not there. Oh Crap!

I knew I reloaded all the mags and had them in place before the stage started. Stupidly I look down and I see the freshly empty & ejected magazine at my feet and then I look to my side and see 2 magazines laying on the ground some 15 feet away. I run back and identify the loaded mag, retrieve it, load the gun and proceed back to the last target that gets 3 more rounds on account of me being royally pissed at myself.

After unloading, showing clear and holstering, I found out what happened. My mag carrier is a leather Bianchi double stack, double mag pouch with tension screws. The right pouch is a bit looser than the left and somehow while retrieving the mag for the first reload, I somehow managed to unseat and drop the second one. My fellow squad members were torn between pity for a run that was going great and laughter at the Keystone Cops performance at the end by yours truly.

It was not a total loss. My equipment was not in combat condition, my fault alone. Did I forget to mention I shoot what I carry everyday? So I learned the cheap way that my lack of maintenance might have cost me dearly if the situation was real. Although I dislike eating humble pie, be subject to public ridicule and administering myself several hard ones to my rear end, I rather have that than be full of holes and being attached to a feeding tune at the local hospital.

So now my pouch is fixed, my holster was given a thorough check and even the belt got a nice cleaning. Contrary to the expectation of the nay-sayers, IDPA did not get me killed but it might have seved my life and taught me a lesson.

You know your brain is about fried when you check your Blog’s site admin area and find 7 drafts that are only three lines long. In 10 days I’ll be officially out of a job and immersed in my NRA Instructor’s classes. After that I plan to do nothing much for a couple of weeks but rest, catch up on my reading (shitload of books coming soon), watch some TV, reload and shoot some. My neurons need to release all that negative energy and just vegetate for a while. However I am sure the Missus will find something for me to do. Damn it!

And in June we begin another Hurricane season. According to the experts “the 2009 hurricane season anticipates 14 named storms forming in the Atlantic basin between June 1 and Nov. 30. Seven of the 14 storms are predicted to become hurricanes, and of those seven, three are expected to develop into intense or major hurricanes (Saffir/Simpson category 3-4-5) with sustained winds of 111 mph or greater” which translates to we are going to get raped by pneumatic force or (if history repeats the theme of the last couple of years) we won’ get much but a breeze and a couple of showers. Anyway, it will be time again to check on the Hurricane supplies. I know I am well stocked on ammo (the beauty of reloading) and all firearms are functional. Drinking Water wise we have enough for 5 days in assorted water bottles and jugs. Food is about the sane for canned and I can whip up some other alternatives with the stuff in the freezer before a tropical twister decides to visit. Just in case I’ll review Southcom’s Hurricane Survival Kit once more and refill as necessary. Wife already warned that 12 different types of flashlights are more than enough, thank you.

Note to self: Casted semi-wadcutter bullets for IDPA matches make for very slow and crappy revolver reloads. They do sure cut the paper pretty though. Lee Mold for round nose bullets in whish list.

Speaking of revolvers, I have to say that they are fun to shoot. I bought an used S&W model 65-2 .357 magnum with a 4 inch barrel. The only modification to it was installing a set of Wolff springs and a Hogue grip and that thing was good to go. I’ve had a chance to shoot it during IDPA matches and I found it very accurate (however the shooter is NOT accurate by any means) plus the added value of forcing me to make sure the rounds end up in the A zone because I don’t have that many rounds or the speed available as the semi-auto guys.  Now the only thing I need is an ICORE club in the area to be really happy.  As of now, the only club in Florida is way north in Jacksonville at the Gateway Rifle and Pistol Club.

I am sure you have a friend who is the official sender of funnies and assorted pictures by email. Most of the time it might be a joke or cute & funny kitty videos or the dumb kid with a skateboard slamming a hard object or the weird picture of a guy showing his butt crack. Most are OK, some are downright funny but some miss the mark and leave a bad taste in your mouth.

I still don’t know what upsets me more: the T-Shirt or the smiling face of the moron holding it. But this is what giving away your rights looks like. This is an example of people buying into the The Government Will Take Care Of You bullshit. This is what being unarmed looks like. This is what giving up your freedoms looks like.

Sad, pathetic, depressing.

We all know people that talk guns and wants guns but “not for thee” and today I was approached by one of those guys at work. He is a nice enough fella, has his Concealed Carry permit and has even been on TV supporting the Castle Doctrine and how it helped him avert an incident with a criminal. But with the recent shooting in Liberty City where 2 people were killed and nine wounded by a shooter with an AK-type weapon, my buddy made comments about how those weapons should be banned. I was amazed that he would even utter such bullshit in my presence knowing well my stance on guns and the Second Amendment so after a brief discussion about what “The Right of The People To Keep and Bear Arms” really means (which he lost), he said something that opened my eyes to what was inside his mind.

“With an AK, they can spray you with bullets before you can do anything to defend yourself.”

That is when I realized that all his information about those Evil Black Rifles come from what he has seen and read in the News. No wonder he was so off the mark. I asked him if he thought the gun that was used was fully automatic, a machine gun and he said yes. When I told him that the chances of the weapon used were zilch to none being fully automatic, he did a double take. I told him about how fully automatic weapons have been heavily regulated since 1934 by the National Firearms Act, that the Hughes amendment in the Firearms Protection Act of 1986 basically banned the production and ownership of fully automatic weapons for civilians which in turn sent the prices of existing automatic weapons into the ionosphere. I asked him what were the chances that a Liberty City gangbanger would spend $25,000 for a full auto AK 47 to commit murder and then drop it in some canal, his response was a long silence.

So we are losing the Media War as usual. Nothing new. We are used to see them actively engaged in the transmission of lies about us and about guns in full complicity with those that would would love to tear the Second Amendment from the Bill Of Rights. The infamous CNN report when the Assault Weapons Ban was about to expire was a classic. For those who do not know the story, shortly before the Clinton Gun Ban was about to expire, reporter John Zarrela in collusion with Broward Sheriff Ken Jenne, created a fake video where they demonstrated how dangerous the “banned” gun were by using full automatic AK 47 and passing it as one of the guns about to be liberated from the ban. CNN made the mistake of interviewing Wayne LaPierre the next day and before they could do anything about it, Mr. LaPierre announced to God and Country that the video was a fake. CNN threw a hissy fit but at the end they had to recant the video and sort of (in a very rondabout way) that the initial report was not as accurated as they thought it should be…which is MediaSpeak for “Ooops, we were caught in another lie.”

After all is said and done, we can only do one thing: Keep educating folks and we we are facing a liar, stop being nice and call him a liar. Nice lost the last elections and nice will lead us to lose our rights. Time to stop being Mr. & Mrs. Nice.

PS: Sheriff Ken Jenne ended up prosecuted & plead guilty to federal tax evasion and mail fraud charges after a corruption investigation uncovered crimes in his outside business dealings. You can always tell the dishonest people and the causes they support.

Got rid of the Cutline theme. I needed to take classes on whatever the hell is you need to learn to make the damned About Page work and I got tired of trying to figure it out.

Obama says that we do not need to stock up…suuuure bubba, we believe you. And the check is in the mail and I’ll respect you in the morning and call you tomorrow. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, we need not to worry because the Great and Powerful Ozmaba says:

“I believe in common-sense gun safety laws, and I believe in the second amendment,” Obama said at a news conference. “Lawful gun owners have nothing to fear. I said that throughout the campaign. I haven’t indicated anything different during the transition. I think people can take me at my word.”

Yep! Those pesky “common-sense” gun laws that have worked so magnificently in Chicago which now is the most crime free city in the United States, right? No murders at all in the Windy City, everybody is free and happy, while the birds are singing and the sun shines beautifully even at midnight during those basketball games in the inner city. I know, I know, enough with the sarcasm.

It irks me that Obama, disciples and minions thinks we are stupid. Peter Hamm, Propaganda Meister for the Brady Campaign against Gun Violence (also known as Brady Campaign to Save Jobs for Criminals and Guarantee Murderers get Fresh Victims Every Day) even displays his ignorance in a quote from the same article:

“Anyone who thinks they need to rush out and buy a firearm clearly has not been paying attention to how quickly we make progress on this issue. We don’t think these are first-time buyers. We think they are people who already have more than enough guns at their homes to protect themselves and are buying more.”

Peter, Oh buddy of mine. Civil Rights do not come with an “enough” clause. My right to defend myself against criminals do not have to be subjected to what a Washington or Chicago flunkie determines to be enough.  And dictating what is enough private property is the mark of the socialist worldwide, specially when they are ready to take such property from the hands of the Citizens under the excuse of the Common Good.

I guess we know where you guys are common from…. then again we knew that already and that is why we are stocking up.
