Where a Hispanic Catholic, and a Computer Geek write about Gun Rights, Self Defense and whatever else we can think about.
I just did something I never thought I had to do: Delete a post. I got an email from my web host (Best1Hosting, cool guys and always very helpful.) indicating that they were served with a Cease and Desist from a Law firm regarding a post from this blog made in 2008.
Being that I am not with extensive cash reserves or even very little ones (Damned Florida Lotto still refuses to go my way) and the last thing I want is to harm in any way my webhost who have provided me with a great service for several years now, I took the “Offending” post out. It grates me the wrong way, but sometimes Discretion is the better part of valor.
In that now removed post (legal eagles pay attention, it is removed as per your threat), I describe my saga with a gun company located in the Lower 48 (I am afraid that if I am more specific, I might get sued) regarding a off spec part for one of the long guns they sell, what I considered poor customer support and how I refused to acquire their replacement because of its outrageous price.
Now here is the funny thing: I am (was) an overall defender of this particular company and this particular semi-imported long gun from a former Soviet country. Even though among aficionados the particular model this company sells is known for its rough finish, less than careful re-assembly and with the looks of a coyote ugly date, I thought that it was a great deal for the price it was sold and for people in search of that type of long gun but with restricted budget.
Unfortunately the company or its legal representatives decided that a complaint posted on my blog and documented with their emails was demeaning and hurtful to their business or whatever legal terms they used in their Cease and Desist. If you think about it, the solution is quite stupid, I am sure it is costing them more in legal fees to have my post removed than actually sending me the part I needed for half their quoted price (and that would have brought it about the same price of the on spec parts easily available at any retailer) and have a customer happy.
I am tempted to contact the lawyers and ask them if they are taking legal actions against some major newspapers and less known journalist (but paid in part by the Joyce Foundation and others) in obscure “News” websites that had been beating the crap out of their client in their publications. Apparently, the same long gun I own seems to be in favorĀ by certain criminal enterprises south of the border and it is regularly bemoaned by the Brady Campaign, the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence, theĀ Violence Policy Center and the rest of Anti Gun entities that would love to see them go under and in jail for providing a product protected by the Second Amendment.
I guess it is time for me to start saving for a Colt M4.
To my readers. If I can figure out how to, I’ll be blocking the comments for this particular post just to cover my butt and possibly yours. If I cannot figure it out, I’ll delete any post that guesses correctly the company, the product, the law firm and anything that can be used to identify any of them. It suck, I know.
Sorry about that.
From an article appeared in The Guardian UK:
For VPC, a student ID taken by a bored secretary or student assistant without any serious control carries the same weight as a card issued after an FBI background check & being fingerprinted?
Oh hell no, why would anybody need to defend him/herself in a place so full with peace , love and gentle discourse?
Just saying.
Brady is doing the obligatory John Lennon’s Death Anniversary “He could have been saved only if you do it our way” extravaganza in Facebook.
They are still intent on the idea that they can guarantee 100% success rate detecting crazy people, which even them know it is impossible. But it matters not because the intent is to ban private ownership of firearms after the do the Mea Culpa and say the mandatory psych check cannot guarantee that an insane person will not have access to guns.
What I want to point out their constant use of racist and prejudiced arguments against gun ownership:
What is it with the “Civilized” tag? Is Ms. Ritz implying that with the exception of the US and selected others, the rest of the world is populated by people wearing loincloths and living in straw huts? It is like their universal truth of Less Guns = Less Crimes only applies to Countries that in their opinion have Starbucks and free WiFi, true symbols of a civilized society like Chicago, L.A. or London (before the riots anyway.)
Anti Gunners protest loudly when they are reminded of the Racist Roots of Gun Control, but their own speech and thoughts betray them. From the “Civilized” tag to the local Council member asking his city to be allowed to impose gun control restrictions because they are “too urban” it is clear to see that they firmly believe they believe themselves are the selected leaders to reign over the less educated and members of the oppressed groups:
I imagine Mr. Stein is worried about them Negros and Wetbacks of South Florida packing heat and spoiling his outing of whine, cheese and BS conversation during the Art Basel. Them minorities should be kept on check and only be used to clean after they leave for their private security protected condos, right Mr. Stein?
Anyway, they are fighting a losing war. Screw them and their racist thoughts. The only difference between them and the Klan is one buys the bedsheets at WalMart and the other buys them at Macy’s.
And no, I am not an anti art heathen. but I am selective. Take sculpture for instance: Instead of three tons scrap metal thrown together and called the “Muse of Athena Farfisa,” I go for something more classic like Frederick Remington.
Oh Gee! They have guns too!
I previously posted about the Black Friday gun sales extravaganza. I should have done my due diligence then and check with the Bradys for a possible comment from their Facebook page and I didn’t. Mea culpa because it is a doozy.
The article they link tells the story on how big was the increase of gun sales as reflected by NICS checks. Of course ABC goes dutifully to the Bradys to quote them saying that some study done by somebody or other says there are fewer gun owners…which does not eplain why more guns are being sold every year.
Oh hell, let them drown in the pool of their self deception.
Simplicity is the key of many things in life. That goes double when your life is on the line. What’s with the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon tactics?
You do not need to go far. Just the first interaction with the guy trying to snatch the gun away from him says it all. Why all the dancing? Just shove the sucker out of the way, put two rounds on him to keep him quiet and go for the next threat. When life is on the line, we do not engage in Tactical Tango.
The height of cultivation is really nothing special. It is merely simplicity; the ability to express the utmost with the minimum. It is the halfway cultivation that leads to ornamentation.
Bruce Lee.
Nuff said.
PS: If you don’t have it in your personal library, buy a copy of Tao of Jeet Kune Do by Bruce Lee. If you are into unarmed martial arts for the sake of self-defense, you will rethink your training. Armed Martial Arts people will also benefit on the philosophy side of business
