Dear Ladd: We all know that your experience with gun is basically what you see in the movies so sit down and pay attention at the following, OK?
When we carry in the streets, we don’t blow your loved ones, unless of course your loved ones are criminals that are trying to do us harm and then they become fair game under the law.
Next, again when we carry a loaded gun in the streets, we do so in holsters or other devices and nobody but the owner manipulates the weapon. At a Gun Show things are a bit different: the guns brought in are for sale and part of that transaction is for the buyers to do a function check and a ergonomic check on the gun to see it it works & feels properly, much like taking a car for a quick spin before buying it or wielding a hammer at a Home Depot before heading for the register. So it makes sense to make sure over and over that a firearm is unloaded since a buyer might not be familiar with the operation of a particular gun. I know, according to you and the Press if it is a short gun, it has to be a Glock and if it is a long gun, it has to be an AK-47 but there are many different types of guns out there other than those two and they ll have their individual quirks and characteristics. And that is why it is safer to attend a Gun Show than walking the streets of D.C or NY or Chicago.
I hope it helps!
Known for a long time that common sense and the desire for knowledge has long fled the likes of these people.
Unfortunately, Ladd is an idiot and a liar.
and a bad one.
So I think there’s a misunderstanding here. The gun show promoters were requesting that even CCWs not carry at the gun show in the interests of “safety,” not just that vendors not bring loaded guns:
“Q: Can I carry a loaded gun in the gun show? I have a Concealed Carry Permit.
A: We respectfully request that you do not bring any loaded firearm into the gun show. Safety is our Number One Priority, and a safe environment in the show can only be maintained if there are no loaded guns in the show.”
So if CCWs are SO responsible and NEVER cause accidents or brandish their guns or do anything else stupid like that then why would concealed carry be at all dangerous even at a gun show? When people are claiming that concealed carry is perfectly safe for college campuses and everywhere else you can think of – and that you would never even know who was carrying or ever see their weapon unless they were legitimately defending themselves – then why would it possibly be unsafe to carry concealed at a gun show? Pointing out this hypocrisy is hardly “bemoaning gun safety practices.”
yeah it was hypocritical on the Gun Show promoter’s part, however that wasn’t how Ladd portrayed it.
So if CCWs are SO responsible and NEVER cause accidents or brandish their guns
We don’t say never to the possibility of a malfunction be it mechanical or mental. We follow procedures to precisely avoid injuries as much as possible. BUT shit will happen and that is why we follow the Four Rules to avoid them. Again, if you are carrying your concealed weapon at a Gun Show, you may want to show it to somebody or maybe do a trade in for a gun that fancies you the most.
Now, piss and moan all you want. We have a safety record that any company or organization would love to have. A week ago 62 shooters concentrated at a South Florida range and shot a total of 5,702 (plus or minus a couple) of rounds in a period of 5 hours. No accidents, no negligent discharges, nobody wounded, nobody died. That level of safety has been kept in my club since I joined some 13 years ago, 2 matches a month plus classes in pistol and rifle handling and rifle competitions. Negligent discharges are so uncommon that they actually make the news! The Media does not give two craps about gangbangers shooting each other in a drug corner and at most it will deserve a passing mention on the Six O’Clock news and a few lines in the local rag. Somebody lets a round fly? ZOMG!
I do consider it is more hypocritical to tell people that they shouldn’t have a gun for self defense and that they are much safer facing a criminal with a cell phone and a can of condiment.
PS: I will admit we had to call the ambulance once: minor heart attack.
Yeah the antis are always taking CCW safety claims to absolutes. I’ve never heard anyone say CCW holders will never ever commit crimes or make mistakes, only that they do so at a much much lower rate than the average person. The antis never dispute that part of course. This is called a straw-man fallacy. They’re arguing against something (CCW holders never commit crimes) that we never said to begin with. Obviously, as gun ownership rises so will the total number of CCW holder crimes and accidents, but what matters is the rate at which they happen.
hey..I did a post in reply to this on the new…Coalition to Stop the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence page. Yes the choice of the name of the group was a deliberate choice and slap in the face against the CSGV by my friend Joseph who started the group.
