So the Governor and state legislature of Colorado just disenfranchise every voter in the state to the whims of the rest of the nation.
In addition to Colorado, there are 11 other states, and also DC, that have chosen to adopt this law. They are:
California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington state.
Fine. Here is what we must do.
In 2020, motivate EVERYONE you know to vote for Trump. Make Trump the winner of the popular vote. Wheel granny to the polls on her dead bed if you must. Register everyone you can bend an ear to to go and vote for Trump. Do NOT sit on your ass on election day.
This isn’t just about getting Trump elected.
This is absolutely about forcing Colorado, California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington state, and Washington DC electors for vote for Trump as well.
Go and do this.
And as soon as that happens, they’ll go nuh uh and pass some midnight resolution to reverse it. Then it will go to court, delaying everything, and giving them the rallying cry of ‘Illegitimate election’, except this time, unlike in 2000, they will get violent.
Bingo! We have a winner. If they even bother with the resolution. There is NO rule of law.
It won’t take effect until enough states (totalling 270 or more electoral votes) pass it.
But I agree it is reprehensible and should be stopped.
It can and will be stopped.
The first time a state tries to execute this compact the U.S. Constitution comes into play.

Article I, Section 10 (paragraph 3) of the United States Constitution; No state shall, without the consent of Congress, lay any duty of tonnage, keep troops, or ships of war in time of peace, enter into any agreement or compact with another state ….
Just me, but I think state legislatures executing such a compact could be construed as promoting insurrection. That can result in a somewhat bloody mess.
Interesting. I had forgotten about “no compact”. Done as the actions of individual states this bill is perfectly Constitutional, because it is completely up to each state how to appoint its Electors. (For example, it seems that a state could allow aliens, legal or otherwise, to participate in the process that appoints electors.)
They’ll just get he consent of Congress. At least occasionally.
If anything this motivates conservatives in deep blue states.to vote. It doesn’t matter if the Republican has zero chance to win your state as long as your vote helps him win the national vote.
As noted, the progressives will love this law, right up until the time it benefits a conservative. Then it will be declared a horrible awful law.
This is what I’ve been saying ever since I learned of it. It’s an unbelievably short-sighted agreement. Imagine California’s 55 solid-blue electoral votes going to support *gasp* a Republican.
Imagine all those solid-blue votes going to Trump. Imagine Trump winning re-election in a landslide, with something near 450 electoral votes, because all these blue states’ votes went to the national popular vote, which went to Trump.
The potential schadenfreude is delicious.
And yes, as has been said, to the Left such a compact is wonderful and a step toward a perfect society, right up until it benefits their opponents. Then it’s an illegitimate law that must be repealed, by violence if necessary … until it benefits their side again, at which point it must be reinstated, by violence if necessary.
As a Coloradoan, I think ever SOB that put his name to this should be arrested for treason. Including and especially the governor.
