Anybody following California politics knows that the Middle Class has been fleeing the state.

California was bifurcating into a state of the very poor and super-rich, with the entertainment and tech industries propping up the top of society.

Elon Musk has not been a fan of the lockdown and has made his position known.

This has engendered much wrath against him, like this from an elected California assemblywoman.

It seems that Musk had his own “fuck you” up his sleeve in return.

Elon Musk says Tesla will sue ‘irrational’ Alameda County, relocate headquarters

Tesla CEO Elon Musk took to Twitter Saturday morning to announce his company will file a lawsuit against Alameda County, California, over its shelter-in-place order that does not allow for the return of manufacturing along with the rest of the state.

“Tesla is filing a lawsuit against Alameda County immediately,” he tweeted. “The unelected & ignorant ‘Interim Health Officer’ of Alameda is acting contrary to the Governor, the President, our Constitutional freedoms & just plain common sense!”

“Frankly, this is the final straw,” Musk tweeted. “Tesla will now move its HQ and future programs to Texas/Nevada immediately. If we even retain Fremont manufacturing activity at all, it will be dependen (sic) on how Tesla is treated in the future. Tesla is the last carmaker left in CA.”

Seems like Musk is going to be pulling his operations out of the Golden State.

He might be the first of the big Tech billionaires to do so, but I don’t think he will be the last.

With California remaining closed and Texas opening-up, I suspect more of the wealthy tech sector will be tempted to pull up and head out.

California is soon going to be a state of just the super poor and where Hollywood celebs have their beachfront mansions but not their legal residences for tax purposes.

Good job California.

  1. We’re also seeing more companies offering fully remote work jobs. The employees get lower taxes (depending on where they live), the companies get lower operating costs.

Long term San Francisco residents (at least the obnoxiously noisy) ones have been complaining for years about the techies taking over the city and destroying neighborhood feels. Well, many people don’t want to live where they’re made to feel unwelcome. Just wait until they’re gone and all that tax revenue goes with them.

  2. They’ll move to Texas and then vote for the same people that drove them out of California.
My sleepy little town outside of Nashville has had a huge influx of people from New Jersey who are actively trying to remake the town in their image.

Only one rule: Don't be a dick.
