What started Tuesday as a missing-persons investigation morphed over the course of several hours as tensions about police treatment ran high and rumors spread online.

By nightfall, three people — including two 14-year-olds — had been shot, a house was set on fire, and police had fired tear gas and pepper spray on some members of a scattered crowd of hundreds who’d gathered outside a Milwaukee house where police earlier conducted an investigation into two missing teenage girls.

3 shot, house set on fire at scene of investigation into missing Milwaukee girls

What in the name of all angels happened? And how the hell everything escalated out of control?

The two girls had not been considered critical missing and did not meet the criteria for an Amber Alert, Grant said.

The crowd that gathered Tuesday near the police investigation in the 2100 block of North 40th Street was a mix of neighbors observing the situation, people expressing frustration with police and activists who’d marched in Milwaukee’s racial justice protests.

Some wanted to take the investigation into their own hands. Others joined the melee to express their grievances with police violence in general.

“Hell, I have watched every episode of Law & Orders Special Victims Unit. I am better than these cops here! Move aside porker!”

The police actually had to protect the home from the mob and they did for several hours. After the investigation by detectives was finished, they left.

The crowd then surged toward the house, as some in the group wanted to look for evidence that supported the rumors of sex trafficking. Some broke into the house, while others smashed the windows of a vehicle parked on the property.

And those would be the people who faithfully watched at least 10 seasons of CSI.

Groups of people also began an effort to look for the girls in nearby residences.

I am sure all of them had properly obtained search warrants, otherwise they would be acting like members of a police state, right?

Around 5:45 p.m., people set a couch, a vehicle and a house on fire, Morales said. Fire crews were on the scene to extinguish the fires.

Because nothing says JUSTICE! like arson and the destruction of possible evidence.

And after that, bricks, bottles, rubber bullets and tear gas. Plus people were shot by other assholes for reason still unknow.

Oh yes, the cops located the girls, there is an investigation ongoing about their temporary disappearance. And no, the mob did not solve the crime nor found the girls.

    1. The mob has no self-awareness. It is not a sentient being capable of reason. It is emotion and force.

The individual members, maybe, could be convinced that they were part of a lynch mob. Later, when they’re separated from the group. But the mob as a whole? Not a chance.

“Groups of people also began an effort to look for the girls in nearby residences.”

Yeah, no. Such a group tries to come uninvited into my property with less than friendly intentions, specially these days with some much stupidity going on, they better be ready to leave with some additional bodily orifices.

I see they put the objects in the proper order of importance, most important to least…

  3. Defund and abolish the police. Default to Constitutional CCW with SYG and castle doctrine. Let it sort itself out.

    1. Although it may end up de facto Constitutional Carry with SYG and Castle Doctrine, seeing as there’s no local police to enforce local gun laws, it’s a temporary situation.

You just know the bastards will keep tabs on who’s following them and who’s not, and call in LEOs at other levels (e.g. county and state) or make arrests once the local LEOs are re-funded (which you also know they will be eventually).

The mayors need the police more than the police need the mayors. At some point the mayors will realize that and quietly propose and pass a budget item. And if enough good cops refuse to come back, the ranks will just be filled with more bad cops.

  4. I am reminded of the movie Idiocracy. Specifically the courtroom scene, where the prosecutions argument is “He totally did IT” and the judge rendered a guilty verdict.

And, that is what happened here. Someone was absolutely sure that “He did it” and that was good enough for the mob.
