Patients ignored chest pain for days only to arrive at the hospital in cardiac arrest. Other patients ignored seizures until their situation became more severe. And a study by the Cleveland Clinic found a 38% decrease in patients presenting to the hospital with stroke and heart attack symptoms since onset of the pandemic.
As fear of being exposed to the novel coronavirus consumed the public, it also kept people away from seeking critical medical attention, several doctors told Gov. Ron DeSantis this weekend during a two visits to hospitals.
Doctors join DeSantis in appeal to non-COVID-19 patients to return to hospitals
About frigging time!
The last several days days I have been listening to MDFD Rescue calls and while the usual culprits of vehicular and other accidents are almost unheard of, all sorts of pains (Chest, abdominal, etc) weaknesses, blood pressure bouts, etc were all over the place. It was one long list of emergency medical calls, one after the other.
And it was not just people not wanting to go to hospitals, but many people cannot get themselves checked out because their doctors have their practices shut down. One follow up I was supposed to do was shut down because it was not deemed an emergency and I have to wait till medical practices are fully restored.
And the other sword we have hanging about our heads (IMHO) is labs. Most of the commercial labs are just mass processing Pandemic samples and one wonders if they will have time to do the regular stuff at all.
We probably won’t know for many months about preventable deaths caused because we went ape-nuts and we ignored the regular killers.
