In the so-called Gunshine State, home to the most gun permits in the country, firearm violence has fallen to the lowest point on record.
As state and national legislators consider gun control laws in the wake of last month’s Connecticut school shooting, Florida finds itself in a gun violence depression. The Firearm-involved violent crime rate has dropped 33 percent between 2007 and 2011, while the number of issued concealed weapons permits rose nearly 90 percent during that time, state records show.
via Fla. firearm violence hits record low; concealed gun permits up Β» Naples Daily News.
“It can’t be! No way no how! Well…..you know…too many guns in the street mean more crime!”
And with one million Concealed Weapons Permits issued no less. That is why the Opposition must lie to get their point across and that is why we cannot stop fighting.
Unfortunately, the rest of the article isn’t as positive. I’d hate to say the jury is still out, but…
Do you know the amount of humble pie they had to eat just to use that headline? With these people there is always a “but..”
…but, but, but, Martin and Zimmerman!
Heh, eventually news like this will mean Obama will use an Executive Order to pass legislation.
Remember not to long in the past what was happening to people that rented vehicles in Florida and the vehicle Tag screamed “Gun Free Zone”?
This was for Miguel, he writes way better than I do. π
Oh hell! I do remember! Tags ending in “Y” and “Z” were used exclusively for Car rentals and they were targeted by criminals because they had a good chance the riders were from out of town and flush with cash. Easy targets.
Thanks, there is a blog post coming on that with a personal story.
As a Chicago transplant and young Police Officer, I sure do!! π
[…] The Gunshine state shows how itβs done. […]
There was even a punk band down there calling themselves “Dead German Tourists” when I was a kid.
The article claims that 70% of murders are committed by firearms, and use that to illustrate why guns are an increasing problem. I will suggest a different hypothesis: Since murders are down by 33%, but the PERCENTAGE of murders committed by firearms is up, this would indicate that murders with weapons other than firearms are showing a larger decrease than murders with firearms. We also know that the number of justified shootings in Florida is up.
Perhaps this indicates that it is difficult to murder someone with hands, clubs, knives, or feet when they are carrying a firearm. Ask Travon Martin about that.
The lying media lump justified killings and DGU into the same sats as murders in order to skew their numbers. I don’t believe ANYTHING those SOBs say.
It is indeed difficult to murder someone with hands, clubs, knives, and feet when they are carrying a firearm.
That’s why honest citizens should carry one.
I’ve always like the old saying that an armed society is a polite society.
Apparently it applies in Florida. But they would never admit it.
I get so tired of arguing with idiots. Here’s an interesting statistic. 2011. State of Illinois population 12.8 mil and change. Murders? 731. 435 of them in the City of Shitcago with a population of 2.7 and change..with some of the most ridiculous stringent gun laws on the book. By comparison? STate of Utah. Total population? 2.8 million and change. Matter of fact EXACTLY 110,000 more people than Shitcago. Number of murders? 54,,,for the entire fucking state. Their TEACHERS are allowed to carry and do..IN SCHOOL So a state with basically the same number of people as one large city has..only 12% of the murders of Shitcago.
Texas..2011, 25.6mil. Murders? 1126. So Illinois..a state 12.5mil IIRC, or less than half the population of Texas.. had a murder rate that was 65% of Texas total. Or to put it another way. Texas with just over 2x the population of Illinois had a murder rate only 35% higher than Illinois.
Try telling this to the idiots…they just don’t listen.
Oh and the numbers for Texas murders were pretty spread out. 198 for Houston,[which when you include the surrounding area is 2-3 times the population of Shitcago] 98 for the DFW metroplex, 27 for Austin….
Again…where were more than half the murders in Illinois committed. In one single fucking city.
Left Shitcago in 1971 and never looked back. Nothing has changed in that cesspool. Oh, I forgot, It`s worst! π
