The number of people requesting applications for concealed firearms licenses skyrocketed following the killings in Newtown, Connecticut earlier this year. So much so, many scrambling to sign up for classes, fearing further gun restrictions by the federal government.
In January, more than 120,000 applications were filed. That compares to 47,000 last January.
“I think the concern is that everybody’s got a handgun and they’re going to use it at the wrong time,” exclaimed concerned Fort Lauderdale criminal attorney Hilliard Moldoff. “This is not the wild west.”
Gun control advocates are concerned that the permits invite violence. The irony: violent crime has dropped to the lowest point. State records show, while permits are up 90%, violent crimes committed with a firearm dropped 33-percent.
via Florida is the top state for issuing concealed weapons permits | News – Home.
Seriously, I cannot imagine how much hate the State of Florida creates in the guts and feeble minds of Gun Control advocates. Every single prediction made about the Gunshine State has gone the way of the dodo.
Oh well, the beatings will continue until they stop being stupid or move to Chicago or learn to leave us the hell alone.
everytime it’s the wild west, everytime that doesnt happen
Technically, it does happen, given a chart I found(and can’t find again…>:[ ) which shows that the “wild west” period had about the lowest incident of homicide in American history.
You mean to tell me Hollywood is wrong? Surely you jest.
Don’t call me Shirley.
Some basic scratch math: if we assume there are 5,000,000 gun owners out there(including all users on this site, and we all know this number is actually a bit low) and if we were to assume 1% of all gun owners were as dangerous as these people think, that would be 50,000 Americans out there with itchy trigger fingers, just hoping to kill someone.
Now, given it’s safe to say everyone experiences at least one moment, every day, where their patience is tested, then all 50,000 of those crazies would be pushed past the breaking point every day, and kill at least one person.
That would be 50,000 murders in the US, EVERY DAY. The daily average would be 5 times the national yearly average, or 18,262,000 murders with a firearm EVERY YEAR, nearly one and a half thousand times the actual national yearly average, and nearly 40x the number of deaths caused by the leading cause of death in 2011(heart disease, with half a million fatalities)
I can’t imagine the terrifying world these people must live in.

made my eyeballs pop out and hit the screen. 255% increase year over year?
Welcome to the Gunshine State. 🙂
Yeah, it’s cool, idn’t it?
When I got my Florida carry permit back in ’09, it took from Mid March until early August to get it. I know they streamlined the system and made it faster, but is that holding up with these numbers?
Does that number include all of the out-of-staters who take the FL course?
I grew up in Miami, got a FL CCW when I turned 21, have kept it ever since. Now I live just outside of Chicago. I never felt as afraid of even the worst parts of Miami as I feel about Chicago. Every Monday the morning news give the weekend bodycount 13, 14, 27, 54 (last year’s record for 1 weekend). They call FL the wild west becuase there are millions of Gunshine staters that legally carry concealed. Not a peep about the No. 2 gun control city in the country, Chicago.
All is definitely well in the Gunshine State. Have you ever noticed that the terrorists attacks occur in the cities that have extreme gun control laws?
