I am not sure, but I would not define anything dealing with terrorism as “unimportant.”
I am guessing the interns had a rough night consuming alcoholic beverages and were nursing headaches when they came up with that stupidity.
They were not saying the attacks were trivial. The term trivia has become used to express any series of facts surrounding an event or person. What this was pointing out was that the separating of Muslims from Non believers was a new tactic.
If that was a blog run by a 12 year old girl out of her smart phone commenting about some reality tv show, I might buy it. But this is a News Organization with alleged trained professionals. A higher bar is the default.
I think you’re missing it. The terrorists reportedly played trivia with their potential victims–What was Mohammed’s mother’s name, etc.–to separate Muslims from non-Muslims. Thus, terror trivia.
I think this is it, too, although a better job might have been done with the wording in the graphics.
