I define Getting Robespierred at being destroyed (politically or otherwise) by the same Revolution you worked so hard for and became an elite member of it. Back in the Ice Ages when they taught actual history, I had a good teacher who gave us the run down about the French revolution with warts and all. One of the things that is still fresh in my mind was one Maximilien François Marie Isidore de Robespierre or Robespierre for short.
Maxi was part and parcel of the French Revolution and most important, what came after: The Committee Of Public Safety and The Reign Of Terror. I urge you to find info on your own, but basically the “winners” of the revolution decided to start killing those they hated and when they ran out of those, they decided to brand others (who were either not involved in anything or were members of the cause, but not liked much) as enemies and come after them.
As shit happens, Robespierre eventually found himself in the “naughty list” and a patrol was sent to arrest him and take him to the guillotine. In the process, some say he tried to shot himself while others say it was one of the arresting parties that shot him. Either way, we was not killed, but the bullet removed his lower jaw. He was arrested and had to wait without a mandibule for the next day to be executed.
Revolutions and revolutionaries are always covered in a heroic mystique, but history constantly shows otherwise and a lot of “icons” end up killed by their own.
I am bringing this because a well-know and (up till last Friday) admired and beloved Liberal is being roasted by its own: Bill Maher. You see, Maher had the audacity to bring Milo Yianoppolous to his show for an interview and instead of going ISIS on his ass and beheading him on the spot, he had the balls to sit down, talk to the guy, agree on a couple of points and disagree on most. The Liberal world lost its shit and now Bill Maher apparently is a Quisling, unworthy of exchanging oxygen for carbon dioxide.
I do enjoy how they go after each other with sheer fury. I understand that they dogmatic when people deviate of the rules, but the issue with these morons is that they change the rules and parameters every other week and do not send the memo to everybody. Eventually you are bound to screw up and will be thrown to the Pitchfork and Torches Club.
And I really have no problem if they thin their own herds. It saves me in ammo and sweat.
Most revolutions end up, sooner or later, eating their own (the American Revolution being a notable exception). The English civil war that beheaded Charles I, led to the interregnum under Cromwell who seemed to be more interested in removing so called “Secret Catholics” from the (Protestant) nobility than in establishing a stable parliamentary democracy. The excesses of the French revolution are well documented, hence “The Reign of Terror.” The purges of Stalin were often focused on eliminating the former Bolsheviks that had ideas about the proletariat actually being in charge. The Nazi “revolution” (coup?) of 1933 led to the “Night of the Long Knives” when Hitler and Himmler destroyed any potential threat to the regime from the SA.
I am fortunate to have been educated in the fifties and sixties where memories of WWII, and the Holocaust were fresh, our teachers and parents, having lived through that era, could relate first hand experience. I am appalled that SJWs, having no knowledge of who the Nazis were, what political philosophy they actually espoused, or the extent of their crimes (other than as a synonym for really bad guys), declare otherwise decent people to be “Nazis” simply because of relatively trivial disagreements.
Plus, plenty of Long March veterans wound up denounced or murdered by the Cultural Revolution. Likewise, more than a few of Pol Pot’s early supporters were shot down in the killing field. And plenty of Viet Cong guerrillas populated the post war reeducation camps of Vietnam.
As Solzhenitsyn pointed out, the biggest threat to the revolution are the revolutionaries. They did it once, they can do it again.
Admittedly, gunnies will do similar when someone expresses views in line w/ anti’s, hence the term ‘Zumboe’d’ but I have no sympathy for Maher as he spouts whatever kneejerk, uninformed opinion he thinks will get him ratings for that episode.
We are an argumentative bunch, but I am not going to send you to the gallows because you might have agreed with Shannon Watts on one thing and disagreeing the other 99. These idjits are fanatical and demand zero deviation…which is funny because they keep moving the goalposts.
The joyous thing w/ the perpetually offended is that no matter what you do, ‘someone’ will complain. Vogue does a cover celebrating ‘diversity’ and they get attacked for not picturing every possible ethnicity and body type. Hopefully, eventually most will just start ignoring them and stop trying to make everyone happy since it’s doomed to failure.
There’s a difference between inviting an opponent to appear in a public forum (which is what Maher did) and announcing that you’re siding with your opponent on core issues (what Zumbo did). We didn’t jump Zumbo’ s shit because he wanted to have Shannon Watts as a guest on his show; we jumped his shit because he used his show to explain that AR’s weren’t “sporting guns” and therefore it’d be dandy with him if they were banned.
and that people that used AR or likely rifles were only the terrorists.
