I had to fly yesterday so I was looking on Amazon for some Prime movies to download for free to watch on the plane.
Then I saw it: Dredd.
If you are unfamiliar with it, Dredd is a 2012 action film based on the character Judge Dredd from the 2000 AD comics. It was a box office flop.
It was overshadowed by much more popular comic book movies The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises. It was poorly advertised and the trailer is shit.
But I will tell you, Dredd is a fantastic movie. Truly an excellent action movie. Karl Urban is an absolutely wonderful Judge Dredd.
CinemaWins breaks down why this is such a good movie. Of course, there are spoilers, but really, the plot of this movie is so straightforward with no twists or reveals that it’s impossible to spoil the plot. But that is exactly what you want in a gritty action movie. Good guys shooting bad guys in a visually stunning way with great sound and soundtrack.

I highly recommend that if you are a fan of action movies, watch Dredd on Amazon Prime.
It will be 1 hour and 35 minutes of solid, violent entertainment.
Underrated definitely.
Better by far than the Stallone original. (Although I did like that one’s deathbot.)
Stallone himself has lamented that he didn’t do the character justice, and I recall him giving a big thumbs up to the 2012 movie.
Karl Urban is an almost criminally underrated actor. While the Abrams Star Trek films are not the greatest, his turn as Leonard McCoy is so unnerving you’d think he was channeling the shade of Deforest Kelley.
I think the 1995 Sylvester Stallone version was much better
and then there is the 1993 movie Demolition man with Stallone & Snipes

Demo Man was just plain fun.
Hah, just watched it three days ago and was talking aboit how good it was at work the next day. Aperently we were all alinged as three of us saw it the same night, and five saw it the next day. Urban is criminaly underated. I wish this could have gotten a sequel.
Sure I love Stallone, but for Dredd, Urban is it.
I had my doubts, but when I saw that IMDb gave it a 7.1 out of 10 rating I bit.
all in all not a bad way to spend an hour or so.
I liked Dredd too. It does seem that Alex Garland (the screenwriter) is a fan of Gareth Evans’ “The Raid.” 😉
