And now the bad news: This measure will have ZERO effect on crime because criminals not only will ignore the measure (because they are criminals, you see) but because they are constitutionally protected from doing so.

Haynes v. United States, 372 F.2d 651 | Casetext Search + Citator

The offense charged includes not only the possession of a firearm, but also the failure to register by the defendant himself [emphasis added]. Such registration would clearly incriminate him as he would thereby have to admit that he was in possession of a firearm which he did not acquire in compliance with Section 5851. * * * The indictment by requiring proof that the defendant himself had not registered the gun has applied Section 5851 in an unconstitutional manner [ 357 F.2d at 309].”

Oops!

But what the hell, it is a good first step, right?

  1. This us bad. But it may turn out to be good. I see the potential for a lot of lawsuits here, especially from existing gun owners who winder why after years of legal gun ownership have to suddenly get an Oregon FID. With any luck this will go to SCOTUS and they will finally shoot down FID/FOID laws.

  2. F**K it!
    I guess I’m a criminal now.

I used to be cooperative and fill out the 4473s as a courtesy… one to two a month for most of my adult life. Not anymore. I literally have NO WAY of complying with this law. The training required to obtain a permission slip to ask to buy a gun IS NOT AVAILABLE, and will not be any time soon in my podunk county. Our sheriff can’t even afford to process and lock up all the meth heads running around here, let alone provide ‘firearms training’ to people who don’t need it, just so they can get a permission slip to exercise their GOD GIVEN RIGHT…

I’m done playing nice while the criminal element just gets a free pass.
Anyone have a gun they’d like to sell? I have cash…

      1. yeah, I’d give you $8 – $10 for that… if it has both magazines and a case. Damn sir, were you drunk when you bought it?

        1. You don’t like guns that shoot everything you can feed into it? Guns that a guy that has never even seen one like it, can pick up and bullseye 9 out of 10 shots? One that never fails to feed or shoot? Are you a Glock fanboy and can’t see anything else? Sad.
