If you had told me that a former president of the Brady Campaign was going to speak at the 2A Rally Saturday, I would have wondered what substances you had ingested.
Dan Gross, former president of the Brady Campaign, was an unannounced speaker at the 2A Rally. What he said took a lot of people by surprise including me.
The Most Surprising Speaker At The 2A Rally
I guess most of you now this by now as it was wildly published in gun circles. And that is my first problem: There was a long list of worthy speakers, but the final take of the 2A Rally was that the stupid gun nuts let an enemy take the podium and talk. This is not a Soccer Mom that has been anti-gun because he read some shit in Twitter, then somebody sat down with her and explained things and she came around. We are talking about a guy who was head of the oldest Gun Control organization in the US and did his very best to criminalize us. All of the sudden, he whispers pretty nothings in some ear, he is whisked incognito in the rally and given a platform. I can hear the pearls of laughter inside the Brady Campaign about this.
And that not being bad enough, this really closes the turd cake:
Gross said that he and Rob Pincus have been working together for the past year on creating a Center for Gun Rights and Responsibilities. It will be interesting to see what comes of that.
What the hell is going on here? If this is such a good thing, why the mystery? Why hiding? And specially why the fuck are we working with the enemy?
If I were in Brady’s or Moms Demands’ PR team, I would write a press release that sounded something like this:
The 2A Rally showed Gun Owners are willing to compromise some of their rights. Allowing Gun Control people talk in their rally was a good first step and some of their leaders have been secretly working with Gun Control advocates to find common sense solutions.
And in sotto voce:
“Off the record: They did not tell anybody about working together because Gun Owners are too stupid to understand what Gross and Pincus are trying to accomplish.“
“This is not a negotiation with the NRA,” Gross said. “We don’t negotiate with terrorists.”

The terrorist quote just came in handy. I left them my thoughts in their Facebook page and they keep swearing this time is for real.
The “gotcha” is hidden in this “Center for Gun Rights and Responsibilities”.
What are your constitutional responsibilities as a gun owner? Look harder. Have you found it yet?
Nope? That’s right, it is not IN the constitution.
I can easily see this as “You are responsible for making sure that you are properly trained.” Which translates as 8 hours of training per gun per year with at least 4 of those hours being live fire with a minimum of 200 rounds fired.
Yep, so your little collection of a 9mm glock, 45 Colt, Lever action, SAA and AR15 are all “different” enough to require you to have 4 different 8 hour classes. So figure around $200 per class which may or may not include the ammo costs.
How about “Responsible for safe storage?”
A couple of days ago we read about the hero in Texas that stopped the church shooting. Did anybody else notice that he was delayed because he didn’t have a ready weapon? To paraphrase, he stopped to put a few rounds into a magazine before slapping it into his AR and running towards the sound of gun fire.
Would he have been 30 seconds faster? 60 seconds faster? If he had a magazine ready? And he was worried about running out of ammo after firing only a few rounds. Why? Because he was a responsible gun owner and his rifle was in a different room in a safe, unloaded. His mags were unloaded.
“Responsibilities” means that somebody else gets to define the hoops you have to jump through before you get to use your rights.
I’m reminded of a recently introduced bill (from Spartacus and the creep from CT). Among other things, it created a license requirement, with training and other requirements. One gun per license, each license good for 10 years. So yes, the notions you’re describing have already been written down in black & white.

Yeah Rob ain’t exactly on my list of 2nd amendment defenders. Oh, he’s in the business, but the business is waaay more important to him than the rights.
That seems to be my take. Wasn’t Pincus a “knife guy” until he figured out there was more money selling to the gun crowd? Since then he’s just not seemed… genuine.
Cam Edwards posted an interview with Dan Gross of formerly Handgun Control Inc.three days ago on Town Hall’s youtube channel. I blasted them for trusting these scorpions at all.
That video is gone and replaced with a revised version. None of the dissenting comments are available. Makes you wonder.

All I want is what William Wallace demanded before battle:
for Gross to go to the home of everyone killed by gun violence in states that make it prohibitive to impossible to legally own guns, and apologize.
And then go to every NRA members’ house in all 50 states and 7 territories, apologize, and kiss their @$$#$ for 40 years of lies about gun owners he uttered. Starting with calling them all terrorists.
Then he can quietly retire home for being such a lifelong f**k-up and liar.

Only if there’s ankle stocks and a pillory involved, and rotten eggs and fruit will be handed out to the crowd in advance. He can say he’s sorry until they run out of ammunition. If he does it every week for as many years as he was telling lies about the NRA, that’d be a fair recompense.
