He was super human with the sticks, no wavering no fluctuations. Simply amazing.

Where a Hispanic Catholic, and a Computer Geek write about Gun Rights, Self Defense and whatever else we can think about.

Semi-retired like Vito Corleone before the heart attack. Consiglieri to J.Kb and AWA. I lived in a Gun Control Paradise: It sucked and got people killed. I do believe that Freedom scares the political elites.

Bonham was very good. No doubt.
But I want to say Two words: Neil Peart.
Check out the Rush in Rio DVD.
The “holy trinity” of rock drummers is Bonham, Moon, and Peart.
Each is incredible in their own ways- Neil is pure technician, John was super heavy groove, and Keith is just unusual- his drum parts were less about traditional rhythm keeping than acting as an accompanist more line with an orchestra.
It’s also interesting that two of those bands had arguably the best bass players in rock: Entwhistle for the Who and Lee for Rush. John Paul Jones is good, really really good, but not that level.
Yes, but there is only one god: Gene Krupa.
Miguel, of course we can’t forget Gene Krupa! When Benny Goodman’s band took LA by storm (was that 1936?), Krupa’s over-the-top style was a major—if not The major—reason for their success.
In my opinion.
By the way, Miguel, the more I read your blog, the more I’m impressed by your encyclopedic knowledge. We are lucky to have you on our side!
Thanks! That is what happens when you are an only child and your parents actually buy you an encyclopedia 🙂

Jazz drummers is a whole ‘nother thing. There’s also Buddy Rich, Max Roach, Billy Cobham, Billy Kilson..
But “Sing, Sing, Sing” was the thing.
“Holy trinity of rock drummers”. —
I like that! And, I agree with your analysis.
