Reality hitting very close

Someone who I know and love is on the first line against the Coronavirus near my old stomping grounds in the Chicagoland area.

They and I have never seen eye to eye on politics, they being very hard Left.

All hell seem to be breaking loose around them and now said individual is griping at Illinois gun laws and their inability to obtain a weapon for self-defense in an expeditious manner during a burgeoning crisis.

Keep in mind that they don’t even have a FOID, so they are at least 30 days out from that, then the 72-hour waiting period for handgun, and that only lets them have a gun at home.  Add in another 90 days for the processing time for a CCW permit, on top of training time, which is at least two days, assuming that all the class time isn’t booked and they will have to sit on a waiting list for that.

That assumes that the FOID and CCL permits process is still moving at its normal pace during the Coronavirus crisis and the government employees that handle that work have not been sent home.

To sum it all up, when the shit hits the fan in a matter of days, a resident of the Land of Lincoln is 34 days away from being able to get a gun and 126 days away from being able to carry it.

And now they are worried.

It’s times like this that I really appreciate the “get your permit while you wait” process that I’ve experienced in Indiana, Alabama, and South Dakota (mine predated the new multitiered permit system).

When it gets to the point that you really think you need a gun, you need it now, not months from now when the paperwork is pushed through.

Italy: Caravan of the Dead

Coffins of coronavirus victims were whisked away on a fleet of army trucks last night after a cemetery in northern Italy was overwhelmed by the death toll.

The column of army trucks brought the dead out of Bergamo on Wednesday night in what Italians have called ‘one of the saddest photos in the history of our country’.

The cemetery in Bergamo can no longer cope with the mounting death toll in the city, where more than 4,300 people have been infected and at least 93 have died.

Mortuaries are full and crematorium staff have been handling 24 bodies a day, including the regular drumbeat of non-virus deaths, meaning the bodies of virus victims have had to be dispatched to neighbouring provinces.

Guns are not essential for Californians

SAN JOSE — As Bay Area business owners navigated the labyrinthine rules of the sweeping shelter-in-place order implemented Monday, many gun dealers across the region opted to stay open this week, amid a spike in sales apparently driven by fears over the coronavirus pandemic.

But after customers lined up around gun stores in several counties Tuesday — including outside the Bullseye Bishop in San Jose — San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo declared that “gun stores are non-essential.”

“We are having panic buying right now for food,” Liccardo said Wednesday. “The one thing we cannot have is panic buying of guns.”

San Jose orders gun store to close in one of first enforcement against businesses open under shelter order

Yes, this kind of “legal” action is still going in this country. “How dare the little people have guns when we can provide with security? We know what’s better for you?”

As for panic, do you really think there will be two guys fistacuffing each other for a box of 7.62 Russian Tula Ammunition? There is panic and then there is Walmart viral Video panic in the toilet aisle.

“I’ve seen people fighting over toilet paper. I’m worried what they will do out of desperation,” he said. “When people start looting stores and they don’t have access to food, they could come into the homes of those they feel are vulnerable. I’d rather be prepared.”

Which is why we have been preaching for a long time that should have forego the latest and best-est gadgets and utilize that money on guns, ammo and training.

I hope that lessons take on this new generation. I did not realize that the L.A. riots happened almost 28 years ago which is when a lot of people realized how desperately alone they were or they could be if a major social dislocation were to happen.

I leave you with this from  Charlton Heston:

He recalled the Los Angeles riots in 1992, which helped many Hollywood folks change their views on gun ownership. As smoke from burning buildings smudged the skyline and the TV news showed vivid images of laughing looters smashing windows and carting off boom boxes and booze, Heston got a few phone calls from firmly anti-gun friends. One conversation went this way:

“Umm, Chuck, you have quite a few … ah, guns, don’t you?”

“Yes, I do.”

“Shotguns and … like that?”

“Indeed.”

“Could you lend me one for a day or so? I tried to buy one, but they have this waiting period … ”

“Yeah, I know; I remember you voted for that. Do you know how to use a shotgun?”

“No, I thought maybe you could teach me. This is getting a little scary.”

“I noticed. I could teach you, but not in an hour. You might shoot yourself instead of the bad guys. The Marines are coming up from Pendleton; that’ll end it. When it does, go buy yourself a good shotgun and take some lessons. It doesn’t get so scary then.”

Heston said his friend writer-director John Milius had more calls. His answer was more forthright: “Sorry. They’re all being used.”

Old News: Anti Gun Politicians always lied.

I had to Google Fu and could not find a full auto and only a reference to a semi auto prototype in some museum. Maybe Gun Jesus knows about it.

Here is Brick Stonewall Miller. He was State Representative and Senator in Georgia and of course, a Democrat.

I was thinking that his description of what a .30–40 Krag round “could do” back then was copied later to describe how the 5.56 would bring planets down by modern Democrats.

I don’t think so… (updated)

From the Twitter:

Iran has toilet paper during the Coronavirus crisis.

So what?  This is a part of the world where people still bare hand it.  It’s hard to run out of something not everyone is using.

Did you ever wonder why eating or handing things to people with your left hand is considered rude in Muslim culture, the Middle East, and Central Asia?

This really isn’t the burn that he thinks it is.

Update:

As a buddy reminded me, it’s most likely that if you are caught panic buying or hoarding in Iran, you are going to catch a 7.62×39 to the back of the skull from the government’s goon squad.
