In Washington DC, the city government installed duck ramps to help duck climb in and out of the Capitol Reflecting Pool.
A member of the House GOP had the temerity to voice concern about the duck ramps and was assailed with social media hate for it.
Fast forward to today….
More than 80 ducks have died because of infection from parasitic snails that live in the Reflecting Pool. Now the pool has to be drained to kill the parasites.
I cannot think of a better metaphor for Washington DC than this.
The government does something with – giving them the benefit of the doubt – the best of intentions.
The goverment doesn’t understand the totality of the situation or accurately predict the ramifications of their actions.
Casualties ensue.
The the millstone of goverment bureaucracy continues to grind on, unabated.
We are all ducks now.
Wait… who was the effing genius that thought animals WITH FRIGGING WINGS needed help getting in and out a pool? And worse, who the flock agreed with him?
Ducklings don’t fly. Soon they should be able to fly up and over the obstacles.
They are draining the Lincoln Reflecting Pool. Sounds like they tried to scrimp on maintenance and did not drain it this winter. I guess they need to relearn their lessons on why they do certain preventive maintenance?
Mom pushes them up and down as needed. We are plagued with ducks in my neighborhood…
It looks like it’s made of foamboard or corrugated plastic, too, which means it has to be replaced periodically.
Wow! I feel sorry for the ducks, though.
…. therefore, it can be deduced, that when government help is headed your way …… “DUCK!”.
The problem with Government is that the denizens of the legislature are half-blind. By that I mean that they are wedded to the notion that in order to Do Something, about anything, they Must Pass A Law. Many citizens are complicit in this mindset, with a “there oughtta be a law!” mentality.
In reality, many problems can be solved by REPEALING a law.
In fact, I advocate the idea (not my own) that, on even-numbered years, legislatures can only Pass laws, with a two-thirds majority — but on odd-numbered years, the legislature can only Repeal laws, and do that with only a simple majority.
Now that is progress!
Thoughts anyone?
