Most of us who read him do know that he was a Socialist, and his personal history- including the fact that he had fought for the Communist in Spain. Which is where the well of knowledge about how bad Communist are came from.
Whether Mr. Blair would have continued in his embrace of Socialism as the Cold War continued is hard to know, as he passed on too soon. But it was clear that he had become quite disillusioned with the fashionable Socialism of the British Intelligentsia.
There is a reason why his books were seriously verbotten in the old USSR and being found in possession of a sample netted you 5 years of hard labor in Siberia
