Oh my… the last picture, the one with the guns laying on the shooting bench. The pistol is a Smith & Wesson Model 52. That is one of the most rare and beautiful S&W pistols made. It is a 38 special that fires full wadcutter only and was a purpose built bullseye gun. What a find. Wow…

I have one. I inherited it from my dad. To see one in an article like this where the focus wasn’t really on target shooting was so unexpected. I dont think the writer and photographer knew what they saw.
Question – the semi-auto, not the revolvers, is the S&W M52? I wondered what it was – i thought a Browning Hi-power, but it seems to have a grip safety, which the Hi-Power does not.
Or is it one of the revolvers?

The semi auto is a Model 52. It was a bullseye target gun built off an all steel version of the S&W Model 39, 9mm single stack frame. The gun fired 38 special full wadcutter only. You can see that the magazines look like big 22 mags, because it has to handle a rimmed cartridge. It only holds 5 rounds.
The gun is single action only and uses a very complicated, screw in bushing, that aligns the barrel to the slide very tightly when the gun locks into battery, maximizing accuracy.
Production on the Model 52 ended when a fire destroyed the equipment used to make it. The Custom Shop now makes a semi-production version in 9mm called the 952, but there is nothing like the original Model 52.
The trigger is unlike any other single action trigger you have ever felt, at 2.5 lbs, it is a thing of absolute beauty.
A fair amount of anecdotal evidence indicates that gun owners are more accepting of LGBT folks looking to own guns than Liberals are of LGBT gun owners. I really don’t care what your sexual orientation is. If you want to become a responsible gun owner, I’ll help you as much as I can.
